Include possibility to switch writing direction for Hebrew and Arabic in all language versions, not just the ME one.
I am using the Swedish version of InDesign CC and sometimes need to be able to write in Hebrew. But the possibility to change writing direction is only available in the Middle Eastern version, which changes all menus and panels into English. I want to be able to keep all menus and panels in Swedish, but still be able to switch writing direction for Hebrew (and Arabic). I suggest that you include this possibility in all language versions, not just the ME one, so that the original local language can still be used in the user interface.

InDesign Preflight should be pressready (default)
InDesign Preflight should be pressready (default)
Bleed 3 mm, no low-resolution images,
no RGB-swatches, no missing links or fonts,
no missing glyphs.
That would be great.11 votes -
Automatic detection of colors with values in all CMYK plates
Background:
For DTP, the color mode must be CMYK. Therefore, RGB black (#000000) is converted to CMYK. This CMYK black color has a value in all CMYK plates. We fix this to K100.Request:
A function that automatically detects colors with values in all CMYK plates. It is best added to the preflight profile. It will greatly help the user.Japanese:

Placed pdfs lose accessibility and all the tags have to be re-created
When I import or place my pdfs and then export my indesign file all the tags disappear in the exported pdf. This is really annoying as all the tags have to be created again.
Get my tags back , all the accessibility tags which the pdf had before.11 votes -
Add "Grid Calculator PRO" by default in Adobe Indesign CC 2020 or improve the setup of grid / baseline grid
The plugin "Grid Calculator PRO" (https://www.designersbookshop.com/grid-calculator-pro-edition.html) is perfect.
With this plugin you can configure the grid and/or the baseline grid precisely much more that with default setup of Adobe Indesign CC 2020.
It would be interesting to integrate this plugin directly in Adobe Indesign CC 2020 or modify the currently setup of the configuration of grid / baseline grid feature adding more options for this elements.

find and change in book
Currently one has to open all documents to F&C across them. There should be a "Book" option in the F&C panel so the files open/save/close automatically like they do when sync'ing.

Automaticly update old files after large update
After the last update(2020) of InDesign, i started creating a book file. When I loaded the files in the book file, all files had to manually be saved again in the new version of InDesign. When creating a book of more than 100 files, it is verry time consuming. To create alle the books(multiple each month whit files that are already created), i have more than 1000 files wich have to be updated to the latest file. To do this i have found a script wich make this less time consuming, but it is still a lot of work. I dont want to do this at every large InDesign update.
I have asked how to do this on the Adobe forum, there i found out that there is no future for this in InDesign itself, but someone has written a script to do this. The question and answers can be found here:
https://community.adobe.com/t5/InDesign/Multiple-files-to-be-saved-manually-in-a-book/td-p/10713906It is possible to create an option to automattically update each file that is being opened or place in a book file? Maybe create an option wich you can select when you want to. When this is possible I do not have to reserve time to update everything, but I can update the files automatically when used.
Thanks in advanced,
Jasper Scheffers.

Make the systemfonts invisible.
As a graphic designer I use a font management system. Unfortunately it is not (anymore) possible to delete the endless list of unnecessary fonts at MacOs Catalina. When using the Adobe programs (Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator), the terribly long list of (unnecessary) fonts now appears. In this list, I have to find my activated letter fonts. Very annoying!
Is it really not possible to remove or hide that list of Mac fonts?

Shading and Underline conflict
Some underline strokes become invisible when Paragraph Shading is applied.
If removed shading then strokes appear.
That's a bug, shading always must go bottom.
Two screenshots are from Indesign, with and without paragraph shading. The last screenshot is from Acrobat, i've deleted manually gray frames to reveal the hidden strokes.11 votes -
Stroke Management in Table
Please put some buttons to select inner strokes / outer strokes of tables rather than right click on the miniature table graphic on strokes panel.
It will be very useful if you put one click option for Select All strokes, Select Border, Select Inner etc. Right click on that miniature cell sometimes very difficult. And make it the default selection for atleast one document

Just change one word in the preferences of German InDesign!
The German word "Textumfluss" is used two times in InDesign but with different meanings:
Within the preferences "Smart Text Reflow" is "Intelligenter Textumfluss".
And then there ist the "Text Wrap" panel, which is named "Textumfluss" in German, too.So "wrap" gets the same translation as "reflow"? Noooooo! These are two different thing and should not be named the same!
A better translation for reflow would be "Textumbruch", so please change just one word in the German preferences, from "Intelligenter Textumfluss" to "Intelligenter Textumbruch".
It's easy to do: just five letters to change! One small piece of code. Done in a minute or less. :-)
Thanks!

Empower Indesign "Books" to export PDF's that display perfect spreads between "chapters."
PDF is the only way to view a complete "Book." But Indesign is designed only to generate single-page PDF's. That is fine for final output for print production, when one needs a single-page document. But it fails during the design process, when one needs to show the clients a whole book (with complex visual/verbal design) as spreads. What happens now is that a left-hand chapter-ending page will appear as a single page in a spread-displaying PDF. And the right-hand chapter-beginning page will appear as a single page. The internal pages of the chapter will display as spreads. The PDF looks like a game of Dominoes. This is not useful. I made my first "Book" today trying to gain the benefits of the "Book" option (page numbering, styles management, chapter-based creation-and-approval). But after three long tech-support calls, I have given up. I will not be able to use the "Book" function. It does not appear to be functional. I will go back to making a book that is one single Indesign file. If you decide to code for spread-display of "Books" please let me know. "Books" could be a very useful feature if it worked. Thanks.

Datamerge export as PDF/VT or other variable print file format (such as VPS)
I use the datamerge function alot to create variable print products such as letters with names and address etc. I also use variable graphivs too. The problem is that when I have an 80,000 run the PDF files and ripping times are getting longer and longer. Ideally I want to be able to export as a PDF/VT file format or a VPS. This will mean that instead of sending the graphics 80,000 times to the RIP of the printer it will instead send the graphic once and the data and graphics are assembled as it prints. There are external plugins to create variable print but they are very expensive. It would be great if the data merge function expanded into the variable print sector more and this function would be a massive help!

Crops Marks should automatically offset the same distance as the bleed
I does not make any sense that the default offset for crop marks is less than .125" There isn't a finishing trim method that can use crop marks closer than that. The default 0.0833 in setting is useless for production. It only causes problems and renders the bleed virtually useless.
I work in grand format print and the problem is far worse. We require .5" or 2" bleed consistently for gallery wraps, museum exhibits etc. We constantly get pdfs from clients where the bleed is 2" but the crop marks are only 0.0833" away from the page size. This renders all the bleed useless. Bleed is only useful up to the crop mark.
And yes, there is a printer mark Fixup in Acrobat. But after the latest indesign update, that Fixup no longer functions the way it used to. Previously any crop marks outside the page size would be removed. Now, if the crop mark is outside the page but in the bleed it is not removed. Even if it is touching the bleed it is not removed.
Most designers just use the default settings because they know little about production. If the crop marks automatically offset the same distance as the bleed setting, it would be a tremendous help to print producers.

Endnotes--better coordination Word to InDesign
In the newer versions of ID, they very helpfully allow endnotes to be linked to the numbers in the text (so that, if you delete the number, the note itself is also deleted, and all renumber accordingly). However, when you import/place a Word file of text that has endnotes, the endnotes get placed into a separate text box, and it is obnoxious. I want to put the endnotes in the same text flow as everything else, but you can’t copy and paste because the notes are linked, and the numbers will get deleted from the text if you try to do that.

Enhanced Full Vertical Justification feature
Currently, InDesign's vertical justification is very basic and has several drawbacks that render it useless for professional layout.
1. Very limited Control. The only parameter you can set is the additional gap that will be added between paragraphs.
2. Beyond that threshold, InDesign adds gaps between the paragraph lines - a typographical catastrophe, without any possibility for control.
3. The VJ control is and text frame attribute and not in the paragraph style level' which causes un proportional separation between headlines and text - again, typographically un expectable.
4. The alignment is done without any consideration to the amount of text in the frame, and needs to be treated (either manually or by script) in text frames that contains a small amount of text, like at the end of a chapter. The proposed solution will define some new attributes and features to the full VJ, which will improve the result given in the current situation, and provide a solution to the above mentioned problems.
My proposed solution is as follows:
[Paragraph and Paragraph Styles]
Here are two optional methods:
[Method A]
In the Paragraph and Paragraph Styles attributes, create five new fields:
Title: Full VJ optional Spacing
A. Space before: Field 1 - Max. expand. Field 2 - Max. shrink.
B. Space after: Field 3 - Max. expand, Field 4 - max. shrink.
C. Field 5 - Line spacing. The default value will be 0 (zero).
All the values in Millimeters\Points.
When the basic value of the Space Before\After is 0 (zero), fields 2 and 4 will disabled.[Method B]
In the Paragraph and Paragraph Styles attributes, create a Justification like interface to control the parameters settings for the full VJ options, except the parameters will be: Space Before Variation, Space After Variation, and Line Spacing Variation.
For each parameter, the 3 percentage values will allow setting the Minimum, Desired, and Maximum spacing changes allowed.
The full VJ will be implemented according to combined calculations of all the above settings (Space Before spacing method and values, Space After spacing method and values, and line spacing value), similar to how the 3 parameters 3 values combination of the Justification feature works. To resolve cases when the Space Above or Space Below are set to 0 (zero), in which the respective 3 value fields of the Space Above Variation or Space Below Variation should be dimmed (because you can't set a variation to a 0 value) ,my suggestion is that this section/dialog will include a representation of the Space Before and Space After fields which will allow the user to set spacing value directly from the full VJ settings interface, the same way the Indent value fields allow to set the paragraph indents from the Bullets & Numbering dialog/section.
In addition, add a Force Justified Vertical Justification options (radio buttons) that will determine the full VJ behavior when the values of all the parameters are not sufficient to achieve a full vertical justification in the current text frame height.
Option will be: (1) Justify to Top; (2) Partial VJ - the result with the maximum values applied; (3) Forced VJ - a forced spread with spacing violations over the defined values.[Text Frame Options]
Add a Contents Threshold field to the Text Frame Options dialog that will allow the full vertical justification to be performed only if the text frame contents fills more than the designated percentage of the frame height.
The default value should be set to 85% or 90%.Currently, InDesign's vertical justification is very basic and has several drawbacks that render it useless for professional layout.

Change PDF page number / .ai artboard number without placing the file each time
In a similar sense to the Object Layer Options, it would be awesome if there was a context menu option to switch to a different page number in .pdf and different artboards in .ai files.
This way when inserting a multiple page PDF For example, I can copy the object then go into the context menu and select the next desired page. Currently I spend more time looking through the OS filesystem to place the same PDF again.

paragraph shading borders align to / away from spine
Add the ability to have paragraph shading and borders align to / away from spine. Also make it possible to have each corner affect individually align in relation to the spine.
