2. Disable support for authoring with Type 1 fonts

   I would like to request a solution to the problem with disable support for authoring with Type 1 fonts in January 2023 - https://helpx.adobe.com/fonts/kb/postscript-type-1-fonts-end-of-support.html
   Our problem is that the company has thousands of indd documents that will reflect the change. All documents use the two complete font families and a few other fonts, but unfortunately even uploading new paragraph and text styles does not solve the persistent problem with some missing fonts.
   What would we need?A tool to preset that, for example, the missing font Frutiger CE 65 Bold will always and in every document be automatically replaced by Frutiger CE Bold, the font Frutiger CE 47 Light Condensed = always the font Frutiger Condensed CE Light, and so on. A utility that works without requiring manual intervention and assigning each individual font weight in each of those thousands of documents.

3. Upsample Images on PDF Export

   DESCRIPTION:

   Indesign could offer the option of upsampling images to a specified PPI on PDF export. Rather than requiring the user to find each under-res image and manually destructively upsample each with a round-trip through Photoshop.

   Optimally, there could be a threshold setting below which an image resolution is too low. This could be either "effective" resolution PPI number threshold ("Upsample images with an effective placed resolution above 120ppi"), or a max scale percentage that would be needed to get the image up to the set output resolution ("Upsample images within 40% of target resolution." or "Upsample images by no more than 250%.")

   Export dialog could offer different options for dealing with grossly undre-res images or a global "low-resolution" preferences could be set to throw an error at the initial export command similarly to how it deals with missing or modified links.

   I understand that the Preflight panel is already designed to manage resolution issues. But I'm suggesting the option of a workflow where image upsampling happens only for a specific individual PDF output rather than permanently modifying linked source images.

   REASON:

   1. It can be time-consuming to review and override each error that a slightly under-resolution image will throw with modern highly-automated print workflows. (I mean, come on, can anyone see the difference between 280 and 300 ppi once printed? Of course not, but the press doesn't want the liability so throws automated errors if any image is even just 1% under the target resolution.)

   2. Sometimes it's necessary to use images that are not available at any additional resolution and require resampling to choose softness over pixelation. But it can be a nuisance to manage the multiple up-sampled assets hanging around after various uses ("Oh look! Here's a higher resolution version! Dangit, nope, it's just another upsample.") A source image would preferably remain at the actual original resolution since in most cases an upsampled image is made for a specific output.

4. Add a Reference Point option when changing Document Setup

   When changing document dimensions in File → Document Setup, there is no option to choose a Reference Point. This feature is very much needed — it would make resizing documents much more precise and efficient.

   I truly don’t understand why this option still isn’t available. It’s an essential tool for accurate layout adjustments.

5. UI setting grayed out/can't use at necessary screen resolution

   I use a very large TV monitor, so I can see all my work, and as such, the screen res is higher, but your UI scaling feature is grayed out, and info says it's because of my screen res, so does not allow those settings. It's the only software I own that does not enlarge UI along with everything else. Do you not think that if we need a larger screen, we don't also need a larger interface??? We are not all squinting at laptops when we design books. As such, I can't make out the panel and menu options/ text. My eyes aren't what they used to be, and it causes lots of eyestrain and headaches (literally) and is the reason I stopped using ID years ago. I came back hoping that in 2023, they'd have fixed this, but NO. I pay for the use of Adobe products, and I expect them to be usable, and this is not the case with ID.

   1. Using the text tool, click in a paragraph.

   2. Hold Option & Shift, then click a Style Sheet formatted paragraph

   3. The paragraph that had the text tool in it is now formatted to the [Option/Shift] clicked paragraph's Style Sheet.

   This is one of the most time saving keyboard shortcuts from Quark Xpress.

   This saves countless hours for anyone formatting text, albeit a tri-fold, or a 1,000 page catalog.

   PS: If you're going to mention Command/Return to bring up Style Sheets, this is not time saving. The user still has to scroll the curser around to select the Paragraph/Character Style Sheet, removing the time saving Keyboard Shortcut feature altogether.

8. Easier Pasteboard Changes?

   I'd like an option or a tool to quickly adjust the pasteboard size. I use that area for working out different layout and content options, and I find it strange that I have to go into the preferences to make the area larger each time I start a new file.

   Does changing the preferences when ‘no document is open’ help you achieve this? That way, you don’t have to do it for each new file that you start.

9. Adjust text in frame to the right

   Text tool. If you have too much text for a text frame with a small amount of text (e.g. 1-10 words), the text frame should enlarge to the right instead of downwards by using the keyboard command cmd+alt+c.
   It would improve the workflow significantly, since you don't always have to drag the text box "right" again afterwards.

10. Required Font Usage Pallet In Floatting with adjustable size

    The Font Usage or Find/Replace Font windows need to be redesigned as like link panel. This existing window/dialogue box is not user friendly.

    List of issues which has to be addressed:
    The windows is not sizable, so if we have a font with lengthy name, then some characters will be hidden at the end.
    We can only view 7 fonts at a time, so if a document uses more that this count. We need to scroll for long way and which is a tedious task. That portion of window should be sizable as like link pallet.
    Once we accessed the font window, we no more have the access to the document. We need a separate standalone pallet as like link or any other pallet.
    We need an option to insist InDesign to take the font from specific directory, so that we can maintain different fonts for each project. Indesign by default takes font from many of the locations. Especially, we should have an option to disable the Mac system fonts [Font Book].

11. Collaborative Work + Multiple Users Opening the Same File Simultaneously

    We need a collaborative environment inside InDesign. We use InD for Proposals and document repositories. We have manually created a library of graphics and text that we use as standard content across multiple documents. We have a team that is constantly asking for access to the file. The lack of version history reverting and tracking makes this a nightmare on top of the fact that only one person can have the file open at a time. Then, you open it, and on PC it says its a read-only file so you have to save-as a new file name. Document integrity is lost regularly due to this. We work in tandem on certain documents and need to be able to see others' edits. have a comment panel, see version history, auto-save, and improve the cc library feature to be able to build an asset library that auto updates instances of items used from the library if edited anywhere else (like inCopy, but more for graphics and formatting saving as well)

    Please make InDesign team friendly

12. Add macOS Core Image Filters as Native Object Effects in InDesign (e.g., Vibrancy, Gaussian Blur, Glass Distortion)

    Please add support for macOS Core Image filters (e.g., CIGaussianBlur, CIVibrancy, CIBloom, CIGlassDistortion) as native, real-time object effects within InDesign. These filters are already GPU-accelerated and supported natively by macOS. Tapping into this framework would allow InDesign to offer real-time visual effects like frosted glass, material-style blurs, and ambient glow — without the need to pre-render images in Photoshop.

    For designers: Effects like vibrancy, translucency, blur, and light diffusion are increasingly common in modern design — not just in UI/UX, but in packaging, promotional layouts, and publication work. These are time-consuming to fake using raster-based workarounds. Having real-time effects within InDesign (or even Photoshop & Illustrator) frames or shapes would be a massive quality-of-life improvement.

    For Mac users: Apple has long provided a robust framework (Core Image + Metal rendering) for these effects. Designers on macOS could benefit from faster rendering, live previews, and native integration — leveraging Apple's hardware acceleration and aesthetic standard directly.

    For Adobe: Rather than custom-building each new visual effect, Adobe could hook into macOS’s Core Image pipeline. That means:
    • Faster development cycle for new effects.
    • Free, ongoing updates as Apple adds new filters (via OS updates).
    • Exclusive or enhanced functionality for Creative Cloud Mac users — strengthening Adobe’s value proposition on macOS hardware.

    This could work by including a new "macOS Core Effects" section in the Object Effects dialog.
    Only visible when running InDesign (or illustrator/photoshop) on macOS (gracefully hidden or disabled on Windows).
    Non-destructive, toggleable effects (like Drop Shadow or Inner Glow).
    Optionally rasterized on export or flattening for cross-platform compatibility.

    This would create parity with Photoshop’s Smart Filters and Illustrator’s Appearance Panel but inside InDesign, and could expand the offerings within those other apps as well.
    Supports modern visual aesthetics like glassmorphism and dynamic lighting.
    Offers Mac-based design professionals more power, speed, and consistency without disrupting automation-heavy workflows (e.g., EasyCatalog, print pipelines).

    This feature would modernize InDesign’s effects toolkit, provide Adobe a scalable way to deliver more effects over time, and strengthen Adobe's integration with Apple’s hardware and OS capabilities. It’s a small change with high-impact potential.

13. Share the templates (INDT) into the library

    Dear all we already use a lot the library as we are a team of 6 designers working on the same bases. We already use swatches and images which is very convenient. It would be good to have the templates (rollup, A4 , webbanner ...) in the library as template the way we can just drag and drop them

14. Export to gif from InDesign - feature request

    PLEASE ALLOW EXPORT TO GIF FOR INDESIGN ANIMATIONS.

    I can't work out why this feature exists if we can't export it. I design google ads, web banners, EDMs etc in multiple formats with fast turnaround, in IND. But can't export a gif despite animations teasing me with all the cool things it could do.

    The best I can do is duplicate a page, flash something or duplicate 18 steps and export as jpg then stack & animate as frames in Photoshop (or create from scratch in Photoshop and use the comet tool, but that can be annoying to try to match perfectly or marry in with the other InDesign formats if designing an EDM) either option adds SO MUCH TIME.

    I'm aware of two dodgy ways to do this, one using an extension that isn't Adobe verified and costs more than my adobe suite COMBINED, which is already expensive. The other is to screen record it but that's tedious too, having to perfectly crop the screen recording isn't a great solution for high volume designs or multiple revisions.

    I got so excited with the new update toting new format compatibility, alas, this wasn't gif.

15. Name of the image near the link icon

    Near the link icon, add the option "show/hide file name (and or extension)".

    This will help when you have a catalog with 1200 products and in order to get the SKU and Color to fill the caption, you must click the image, then return to the text tool.

    I know there's ways to auto input the name of the image. But sometimes the image contain other Information not important.

17. Include Blue Guides When Moving Text/Objects

    This feature is seen in Illustrator when you move text or objects around. It either creates a shadow or outline of what you are moving. It really helps me when I am manually aligning objects, especially text. Bounding boxes around text is usually never helpful when used with the alignment tool. This is due to aligning with x-height, and not with descenders/ascenders, which is what the bounding box is around.

18. Option to draw a text frame on top of another text frame

    Making a new text frame on top of an existing text frame is something I very frequently need to do. However, as it is, for different reasons this simple process is needlessly cumbersome.

    I have two suggested solutions (I have a dream that both could be implemented, and make a basic upgrade to my workflow):

    1. Make the type tool able to draw a text frame on top of another text frame. Explanation: When hovering the type tool above an empty area, the tool turns into a text frame tool, as indicated by the cursor. However, when hovering above an existing text frame all you can do is place the text cursor – no way to make a new frame, unless you switch to the frame tool (see below). But could the ‘text frame tool’ could be invoked by a modifier (alt, fx?), to make it possible to draw a text frame on top of another? (When hovering above text, the alt-modifier is already (somewhat, in theory) occupied by the hand tool. But using alt to invoke the hand tool is erratic: it only works when you are editing text, and not before the text cursor is properly placed, so I always use alt+space instead for the hand tool. Before placing the text cursor, pressing alt currently does nothing. Suggestions for other ways to achieve the same are of course welcome.)

    2. Make the type tool stop ignoring empty, unassigned frames that sit on top of text frames. Explanation: When using the frame tool to draw a new frame on top of a (bigger) text frame in the background, and you try the normal way of converting the frame to a text frame, by selecting the text tool and clicking inside the new frame, the new frame will simply be ignored: The type cursor will be put into the text frame beneath. The solution is to first manually go to the Object menu and select Content > Text for the new frame, before clicking inside it with the type tool. But this seems like an unnecessary step. If the new frame has any kind of color or stroke, the type tool correctly does not ignore the new frame, this only occurs if the new frame is completely empty, and it seems like an oversight. There are workarounds, like locking the text frame beneath, or using layers, but all this is needlessly cumbersome for a function that for me at least will be used multiple times a day in multiple new documents.

19. zoom the index

    I heavily use the Index tool which usually takes very long working hours, and find it increasinlgy damaging for my eyesight to stare at those tiny chacacters and boxes. I would find it very usefull if the dialogue box and its content could be expanded or zoomed, as the rest of workspace.
    It would also be usefull if the text boxes could be bigger, so as to be able to see long iong index entries more easily. Thanks!

20. Fix/lock toolbar (avoid unintentional undocking)

    Please add a feature to avoid undocking the toolbar. The Selection Tool (black arrow) is too near to the dotted line, indicating the draggable region of the toolbar. I've accidentally undocked the bar countless times. I mean hundred and hundred of times of cumbersomely dragging the toolbar back where it belongs. Especially when working fast on a big screen or multiscreen setup.

    A suitable workaround is using keyboard shortcuts, but that's not a good solution for a UI flaw.
