Font Substitution Preferences
I often have several of the same fonts come up that I'm missing in the documents I'm working on from other people. I think it would be great to be able to have a user preference to define a specific font I have to replace it automatically rather than just a default font.
This could also help with fonts that are technically the same, but one is an open type vs post script version.

Allow snapping and dynamic guides to work on the pasteboard
I know guides snap while in the pasteboard and as long as they're infinite but many of us have to work outside the print area by several reasons including the use of many objects or several options that you put next to each other while working on the fly.
Seems to me that its absence is a limiting non-feature that we learned to work with but it doesn't take too much resources to include.

Publish Online: Sharper elements
InDesign seems to convert vector-based elements (linked eps/AI etc.) in JPGs when I publish online. But that's not sharp. Even with 144dpi (Retina Display …). But text is sharp … Is it possible to have alle the same sharp?! (if not the clients ask: why is the text sharp and these elements not?!) Maybe convert to svg or show a PDF …???

Zoom possible in presentation mode
In presentation mode (Shift + W) the page will scaled to the screen-size. It#s bad, especially if the layout/page is very small. It would be great if I can zoom to 100% (cmd + 1) in presentation mode!!

Add word and character spacing (justification) options to character styles
Allow the justification options within character styles.
Quite often I have different typefaces in one paragraph, which need individual values for the justification of word and/or character spacing. But I can only do the justification for a whole paragraph with exactly one font, ignoring all the other contained typefaces. This leads to word spaces, which are way too narrow or too wide in parts of a paragraph (see the top image). If I could adjust justification options in character styles as I can do in paragraph styles, the problem would be solved!

Improve indexing management
The GUI for Index item/topic management is painful to use. For instance, looking for an item means constantly having to scroll and expand/collapse items in the topic list, mainly because it is so small and secondly because it auto-collapses all the time. This UI should be in a resizable panel, a search field could quickly narrow choices.

Export correct unicode spaces to epub/html
Logging this as a new feature, but it could also be a bug? Also logging this under "EPUB" since thats most important to me, but it also affects "HTML"
Currently the only space characters exported by InDesign are the regular space and the non breaking space. All others are converted to regular spaces on export. These spaces should be retained in the epub, since they are supported by reading systems and in many cases it is typographically incorrect to use regular spaces.
Spaces with direct Unicode mappings:
Normal Space U+0020
Nonbreaking Space U+00A0Em Space U+2003
En Space U+2002
Third Space U+2004
Quarter Space U+2005
Sixth Space U+2006
Thin Space U+2009
Hair Space U+200A
Punctuation Space U+2008
Figure Space U+2007InDesign custom spaces without unicode mappings:
Nonbreaking Space (fixed width) N/A (should be mapped to U+00A0, regular non-breaking space)
Flush Space N/A (this one is OK mapped to regular space)I have full example files, but InDesign user voice doesn't accept InDesign files as attachments, nor zip, HTML, or epub. Attached HTML saved as text.

Color Property and Text Alignment Option for Text Form Field
Under Buttons and Forms, if selecting a Text Field for an object or area, we are given the following text properties: Font, Font Appearance (Bold, Regular, etc), and Font Size.
I am requesting that the following properties are added to the Text Field options: Text Color, Text Alignment.
Text Color - Allows user to choose color of text that will show up in the interactive Text Field after being exported to PDF.
Text Alignment - Allows user to place the text alignment within the field prior to exporting.
By adding these two elements, the user doesn't have to then export to Acrobat where they will need to select every single field that was intended to have a different color and/or alignment, each time a new file is exported. Saving the user time and grief.

Borders on cells in a table
When adding a border (a stroke) to a cell-style for a table, I think it would be very usefull you can actually align the position of that stroke towards the cellframe. Like, for text-frames or image-frames you can choose "inside, outside or in the middle". For tables/cells, you can not. I often have to use a paragraph style with a paragraph border to get "more accurate" results. My screenshot will explain better.

Button for "Approve Artwork"
For the "Share For Review" feature, it would be extremely helpful to have an "Approve" button and possibly an "Approve with changes" and "Send new proof with changes" button. Having these have options we can toggle would be great as well.

Add full text markup options to document review (online version)
When sending a document for review through CC online, my reviewers have very limited edit/markup options (add comment, draw, add pin). Can you add all the text markup options available in the "Comment" tool of the desktop version of Acrobat Pro? For example, insert text, add note to replace text, strikethrough, callout boxes, etc. This is valuable to me because it is much easier to read/understand the edits if they're clear text edits, not just comments in a box. Thank you!

Allow 'Find in Book' to search for text in all documents of an InDesign book
I am writing a book, using the InDesign Book feature.
My book has 18 chapters, each a different InDesign document.
I would like to be able to search for all occurrences of text, without having to open each document. I would like the results to be a panel something like Adobe Acrobat's Find in Files panel. This is useful when I think I've written on a topic in some other chapter, and want to link text in the current chapter to the other chapter.

Preserve positioning data when pasting graphic from one frame to another
When I copy an image from one frame and paste it into another, I expect this action to preserve two sets of attributes: scaling factor and positioning data.
I get one out of two (scaling).
No offense, but QuarkXPress could do both back in 1990.
Why does this matter? Imagine a layout with a horizontal row of head shots, each in a separate frame of the same shape and size. Client says, "Oh, please move photo 3 to frame 10, and scoot everyone else up one frame."
I don't have to imagine this situation, as I'm currently working on a project with four spreads just like that, for a total of 60 images. Moving one image as described above is a lengthy process of copying and pasting (or trying to remember and type in) a whole bunch of x/y coordinates from one box to another.
I've looked for scripts to automate the process and come up empty handed.
This is so far beyond basic from a production standpoint that I really shouldn't have to explain why.

Export XMP metadata with exported JPG and PNG images
Currently, when you select a single placed image, and choose File > Export and export the selection as a JPG or PNG, any metadata that is present in the image (keywords, description, etc) does not appear in the exported image.
What I would like is that if a single image is selected to export, that InDesign would retain all the XMP metadata (or at least the keywords) applied to the image when the image is exported.
The reason this would be useful is that sometimes users will crop and scale an image in InDesign, and then want to export the cropped image to a JPG and edit it in Photoshop, and then re-import it into InDesign. Currently, if they do that, the metadata is lost.

Data merge: Classification Master pages
Translation google: It should be possible to assign a sample page for each data record via the data table. Similar to QR code and images, the column is given a special character in which the name of the sample page is written.
After the data merging, each data record then has the corresponding master page.14 votes -
We need an Adobe product that creates charts better than a MS product!
Years have gone by without Adobe recognizing that InDesign is used for a LOT of annual reports that are chart-heavy. Built-in functionality in Illustrator is appalling at best, then to have to break a chart apart and literally re-type every label for potentially 100+ charts for a report is ridiculous. We need the ability to control the look and feel of a wide variety of charts natively (with the ability link to various data sources -- spreadsheet, odbc, etc.).
Alternatives?
Use Excel and export as a PDF and link it. However edits are onerous when you have to change the excel doc, re-output the pdf, and update the link. Text colors/sizing are never quite correct (let alone needing to make a change document-wide -- FORGET ABOUT IT), alignment never seems to be exact, and it's just a poor approach, honestly.Another alternative (even recommended by admins here) is an expensive font that only uses whole numbers up to 100 (made that mistake, waste of money). Bar chart with decimals? Nope. Reporting on the GDP of a region? Can't do it.
For a company that's so focused on being data-driven, it's pretty ironic that we can't create compelling charts in one of your flagship products -- especially when products like Excel and PowerPoint can do it. What gives?
PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF YOUR USERS DO SOMETHING!!

Trackpad zoom windows
Seems really backwards that I cannot zoom in with my trackpad on windows. I mean, it works flawlessly in even Microsoft Edge. Just seems like something that was flat out forgotten.

Use the Articles tab to designate the reading order in a PDF
When creating an accessible PDF, InDesign should use the Articles Tab rather than the Layers Panel to structure the Reading Order. It reads properly but once you check the accessibility, the "Reading Order" panel shows a MESS. It's based on the Layers Panel which is madness to try and re-structure when creating a large form with hundreds of form fields. The Articles Panel is needed to set the tab order anyway. This would make the most sense to me.

underline outdent/indents
The border and rules have options to outdent or indent, but the underline style does not. Sometimes you need a character style to highlight a word, and the only way to do that is with the underline style. It doesn't look great when there is no space on either side of the highlight, so you need to add extra spaces before and after the word. Can this be added to the underline style options?
Maybe it should be a new feature called ”highlight.” It would work like Microsoft Word but with options.
