Mimic Text Box
For Example: If you have a list of people and you create a text box for each person that has a number in the text box.
Further in the document you would have a map that also has the numbers showing which person is situated where.
What would be very helpful is to have those 2 numbers (1 and 1, 2 and 2, etc.) be able to auto update the other.
So when someone is removed from the list, the person numbered 10 originally now becomes 9, which also auto updates on the map

Open pages of a pdf file in a single InDesign file
I always face this problem where I need to open a single page of a pdf. file to do amendment. It’s difficulty when my client doesn’t have the working file (indd). I hope adobe is allowing me to open all pages of a pdf. file in a single InDesign.

Native AI support.
Using links within AI to keep source files small is useless if INDD is a part of the workflow because INDD will not place AI files unless PDF compatibility is turned on. Turning on PDF compatibility in AI when saving embeds all links so linking files instead of embedding them makes no difference.
Please make INDD able to place AI files that have not been saved with PDF compatibility turned on.

Condition Sets: Show overrides when the set has a +
In every other panel, when there is a style override, resulting in a + symbol, if you hover over the symbol, it will tell you specifically what the overrides are. For example, a different type size, or font family or leading or something along those lines.
But in the Condition Sets dropdown, all you get is that there are overrides. And you can either clear them or redefine the set. But if I choose to clear the overrides, I have no way of knowing what the result will be.

Restore the page overlay display in the print dialog.
I previous version of InDesign and the initial releases of InDesign 2017, you could see quite clearly what would print on the selected sheet size. In the latest update as of Aug 2017, if I change a sheet from letter to legal that has been printed previously, letter is still selected in the dialog, but due to the preview sheet being legal and cannot see that there is a size mismatch without going through the individual dialogs. For reference, the portion of the document that would not be within the printable region showed as a different shade of grey, whereas the entire preview now shows white.

When you highlight text - then select something else - it would be really cool if the same text was selected when you went back to it

Home screen - Please put your creative hats on and re-design for functionality
I love and hate the Home Screen. I would really like to see Adobe really think through the reason for this screen's existence. The simple fact that you cannot reorder, delete, or organize the list is limiting. The additional fact is that, in some recent updates, the hover to see the "path" is no longer available.
Bottom line: this is valuable real estate that is going to waste or cause more frustration than it's worth because it feels more like an afterthought than a conscious UX/UI decision.
You guys are awesome creatives, and I know there are tons of things that can be done, many of which others have noted in the comments below. Allow changing the Show/Print status of Text Conditions for the whole book
I use a text condition to highlight text to be revised. Usually, I expect to have this text condition only shown in draft mode, but not exported or printed. This is for my own use during development, or for future reference.
But when having to share a draft with my proofreaders, I want this text condition to be exported into a PDF file. I have therefore to change the Show status of the text condition to Show and Print. This is not allowed for multiple documents in a book. The status of text conditions is not synchronized.
I would like either to have a way to change the status of text conditions for a whole book or being able to synchronize it in a book

Does the font selection in the Paragraph Styles panel not support autocomplete suggestions?
When selecting a font.
The Paragraph Styles panel has no filter or autocomplete feature.Just like in the Control Panel, where font selection is filtered and suggested as you type.
This feature seems to be missing in the Paragraph Styles panel, the Find and Replace Fonts panel, and the Composite Font Settings.
It’s very inconvenient.I wonder if there will be improvements in version 2026.
Also, it’s very inconvenient that you can’t quickly jump to the current font’s position in the font list.

indesign 2024 version needed!!!
Hi, I need a 2024 version of Indesign because my INDD file shows damaged. The only way to recover is to open it with the old version which it was created from. This is very important to me. Thank you

Add sentence case to character options
Add sentence case to the character options (alongside all caps, small caps, lowercase, etc.). My clients often send content with titles typed in all caps, and I’d like a quick, reliable way to convert them to sentence case (and/or title case).

In Adobe InDesign, I am unable to set a table row height greater than 211.667 mm. However, this limitation does not occur in Microsoft Word, where larger row heights can be applied without issue. Could you please advise on how to address this restriction in InDesign?
We need to add this feature in Indesign

Grids in Document setting
Grids do not belong to the app settings. Should be part of document settings.
Rework Styles/Settings.
In Styles, the tabs are not logical.
How is Language and 'Advanced Character Format'?
Why is 'Align to Grid' part of 'Indents and Spacing'?
Lots of work to do there.1 vote -
Save current document as a preset
It would be a better way to save presets, when a preset can be saved from the current document the user is working on. And then a dialog should appear to choose which settings should be included e.d. Document settings, grids, margins & columns, Parents, Styles, ...
The current way is quite useless.

Save/Load Ink Manager Configurations within one file.
I'd like to be able to save and load Ink Manager configurations, particularly ink alias sets, within a file.
Use case: I have a series of labels that are, except for color scheme and copy, exactly the same. I'd love to be able to produce the different color variations simply by loading a set of aliases. I could change the color configuration of each label variant simply by loading the ink manager alias set for that colors scheme, starting from a SINGLE master file, without having to resort to identical layers in different colors, etc.
My goal here is to reduce deltas between the labels. Using a single parent file that can be reconfigured from one color scheme to another just by changing the ink aliases would absolutely minimize the chances for deltas to develop, because there would be only ONE parent file.
I have an application for this right now, with a large corporate client, and I can think of a half-dozen uses right off the top of my head.
Thanks for your time and consideration!

Invite without sending a notification
It'd be great to have the ability to invite WITHOUT sending an invitation email. As an enterprise user who has to reach out to many internal departments – we do want multiple eyes on the document, however only at certain times in the process. It would be nice to be able to batch add the permissions to view the document but then not send invites so we can then individually assign tasks for collaboration through the comment system during the design and feedback process.
If you look at how Google achieves this through sharing permissions it would be similar a small tick box that says "Notify persons/invitees" or whatever.
Also a side note for Enterprise InDesign our current admin settings are set to "access to all within the domain" but unfortunately Share for Review in InDesign only reflects "invited only" so I have to manually input multiple emails (with a very finicky dialogue box that doesn't retain information if you click away from the screen). The quickest solution to this top problem if it can't be implemented quickly, would be to update InDesigns Share to Review tool like how Adobe Illustrator has the option to drop down and choose from either "access to all within the domain" or "invite to access only"...
Thanks for your hard work! Looking forward to further improvements for this tool because it's definitely helping with version control.

When using Find/Replace, show how many instances were found.
If I'm trying to find something in a document to modify it slightly, I'll use Find to find it. If there's only two instances of the thing occurring, than I can just quickly manually fix it. If there's 200 instances though, then I know I either need to be more specific in my search or start writing some GREP. The problem is that I have no way of knowing how many times the thing I'm looking for occurs, and if it's a lot I would have to click through "Find Next" an unknown number of times. When replacing items, there is a pop-up that tells me how many items were changed, but it would nice to know that number before I hit "Replace."
This is also useful in catching mistakes, especially in cases where I made the change in all open documents, realize that my find+replace should not have caused 2,000 replacements, and now have to go into each document and ctrl+z.
If I have a similar issue in Microsoft Word and use Find, Word shows me in a side panel how many times the thing I searched for occurs in the document, and then I can make decisions on how best to proceed.
I don't think an entire side panel is necessary, but could you just add a line in the Find+Replace window or a pop-up that says "found 80 times" or whatever? Find+Replace has a pop-up that says how many items were replaced, but it would be helpful if I could know how many things I'm changing before I actually change it. If you think the pop-up would be annoying for every Find, maybe it could be an additional button next to "Find Next", like "Find How Many"? It would also be helpful if this highlighted every instance of the search in the document, but I'd settle for just a "found x times" message.

See Page Content Order and Structure Types (as in Acrobat) in InDesign
The InDesign/Acrobat accessible PDF workflow is a nightmare. Fixing reading order and tags in Acrobat is one particularly frustrating aspect of that nightmare.
It would be very helpful – and a major time-saver because of these issues in Acrobat – to be able to see Page Content Order and Structure Types, as displayed in Acrobat when the Reading Order tool is active, in InDesign so that issues can be resolved BEFORE export to interactive PDF.
A much more productive solution would be to have live updates in Acrobat as changes are made in InDesign. I'd be seriously impressed if you could get that to work. Forget rubbish AI-generated cartoons and concentrate on more practical issues, please. Improvements in the InDesign/Acrobat accessible PDF workflow are long, long, long overdue.
