Ability to scroll pages behind export windows
When dealing with longer documents, it would be nice to be able to scroll either the pages in the background or (even better) the pages window/tab to look at a range (e.g. when a document is at the end or if there are filler pages that don't need exporting/checking at this stage). People have been requesting this for years.

Export Share for Review Comments
Our Engineering department needs to be able to track the comments made on documents which are shared for review as part of their audit procedure.
It would be great if after the document has been shared for review and the Engineering team provide their feedback, they could then export the pdf along with all of the comments.

wrap the first line of text around an anchored object
Please please give me the option to wrap the first line of text around an anchored object. It could even just be a checkbox in the Anchored Object options window. I run into this problem all the time and the band-aid fixes of manually adjusting the indent or trying to put the image at the bottom of the previous line of text take so much unnecessary time.

Gradients saved in Library
Is there a way that gradients can be added to the Adobe Library, like how we can add gradients to colors/swatches? I spend a lot of time making gradients in InDesign that are part of branding for the clients I work with. Being able to save the custom gradients to the Library through InDesign to be used in other Adobe programs would be a huge help.

Reinstate the Publish Online button in the top bar please!
This shortcut button to the Publish Online function was one of my most frequently used, and for some strange reason, in the latest version 18.5, it has been removed.
I can't see any reason why it can't remain where it was, very conveniently situated in the top bar beside the Share button.
The new option slows down what was one of my most frequently used functions... I do hope this isn't just 'change for change's sake'??
Anyone else find this change unecessary and annoying?3 votes -
Buttons and Forms Panel
It would be a great option to enlarge the Buttons and Forms panel. It is so small. I make a lot of fillable forms and use this panel often. Please make it larger.

Paragraph Styles Larger Tab Markers
I use windows 11 with a display settings at 125% scale and monitors set to 3440x1440 resolution. I use a magnified mouse cursor as well. When using the Paragraph Styles Tab feature, the tab stop markers are so small it makes it very difficult to select them to adjust their position. I would like to see the User Interface designed with larger tab stop markers or a dialogue box that allows for input of the left align and hanging indent settings.

Better use linked excel files
There should be a way to link to an excel doc, remove unnecessary columns or rows, change the formatting and/or ad paragraph/character styles, so that if the excel doc is updated (with new pricing or different demographics or something) just the information that remains is updated. As of now, if the excel doc is updated, all the work in InDesign (aside from table style) is completely removed and you're forced to either start from scratch, or continue with out of date information.

Share for Review Strikethrough Comments Become Unmapped when Text is Deleted
My editor often uses the Strikethrough text tool in Share for Review. When I delete the specified text, the corresponding Strikethrough comment becomes unmapped. This is a problem in large documents because it is difficult to remember what part of the document the now unmapped comment referred to. My editor needs to be able to confirm that her requested edits were resolved.

Export Image Metadata and Keyword contents contained within any image when exported as a .PNG file
Export Image Metadata and Keyword contents contained within any image when exported as a .PNG file. Why should the metadata and keyword contents embedded in an image file be wiped when exported as a .PNG File>. AS the need for transparent PNG files needed for AR experiences becomes more critical for use in Aero and other AR environments, the metadata should travel with any export from INDD

Consider built-in compression of .indd files
Since .indd files could be compressed (e.g. zip) with saving between 50% to 70% of disc space: Please consider to implement a compression algorithm natively into InDesign.
Thanks

Leave links in the CC library when packaging a document.
Many of my links in my InDesign documents point to a shared CC library. So that I don't have to resend all the data when I package the document, it would be good to have a function that leaves the links of the document in the CC library and only collects the images that are not in the CC library.

Integrate Adobe Express/Canva-like features into Indesign
So Adobe Indesign has some BASIC animations and I feel this is a completely missed opportunity on Adobe's behalf. Apps like Canva have been spreading like wildfire for years and while Adobe has released Express it is a poor cousin. The idea behind Express/Canva is to have an easy-to-create, templated video/animated solution for social media (which let's face it, is mostly video now), yet as a very heavy InDesign user I should be able to animate and export these animations while also taking advantage of the powerful mail merge (text, images, and it really needs to also have swatches), bulk relinking, dynamically updating files features that we all know and love within the adobe suite.
What I would love to see included in Indesign
1/ export of animation in mp4 and gif (including transparency) formats.
2/ Improved Animation (on a page and page transitions)
3/ Additionally, the use of MOGRTs or being able to make your own custom animations with placeholders would be amazing.
Why Adobe Express doesn't work
Creative Cloud Library files are not dynamic, which means having to upload every single element you want to use (for me that's around about 50 every month - same templated files, different theming).
These files are already on my computer and such a waste of time and resources to upload and replace each image when it's already on my computer. I may as well use Canva which has much more variety.
Also limited in animations
Why Photoshop/After Effects/Premiere doesn't work
- it lacks the ease to mailmerge multiple items so relinking is arduous
Why in5 doesn't work
- it's limited (gifs are created by screen recording in your browser so it cannot do transparent gifs)
- it's expensive and limited
I know a lot of people think that animation and InDesign are in the past, but if you look at businesses that have basically made a multimillion-dollar business out of that base premise I guarantee you will see they have a bright future together.

Integrate Object style into preflight
Preflight should be able to check if object styles
are not correct. That would make it easy for me
to check if objects are in the correct position
and nothing was accidentally moved.3 votes -
nest pages
The pages panel is the most ridiculously cumbersome thing in the world!
I make digital planners and regularly work with documents that are over 2k pages long- there is SO MUCH SCROLLING OH MY GOD
Please make pages nestable where we can group them together and expand or hide as necessary like photoshop layers folders.
if designers are working on a book there's absolutely no need to see the entire book all the time - being able to work chapter by chapter is so much easier to manage than scrolling for a month! Also the scrolling in the pages panel is equally cumbersome it either crawls or shoots down 100 pages.
If you can do this with photoshop layers I don't see why this very sensible convenient workflow can't be applied to indesign.

Overhaul Bullets and Numbering and add features to make it useful.
Right now the bullets and numbering features are so limited and feel like an afterthought. Here is what I need in order of importance:
The ability to format bullets/numbers so they ignore extra line spaces.
The ability to align the bullets to the center. When one bullet's verbiage is longer than one line of text the bullet stays on the first line, what I need is for the bullet to be centered with all of the lines of text in that bullet, so if you had a bullet that was three lines long, the bullet would be centered to the middle; or if two lines long, the bullet would be centered in between the two lines.
Give Bullets and Numbering its own window panel. Otherwise I have to hunt it down, google it, etc. Opening paragraph window and then clicking the hamburger icon is not intuitive.
More customization of the bullet symbol. Allow me to easily customize color, size, and spacing from the bullets and numbering panel. Also include more stock shapes and options to choose from that aren't just derived from a font. Allow me to import my own custom shape to use a bullet.

Same Gradient-Tool as in Premiere Pro?
In generell - why not make all tools more consitent? Gradients in InDesign are still way behind Illustrator, while both lack the elegant, intuitive rubber band of Premiere Pro's gradients. I think, everyone would love the Premiere Pro-version in InDesign (and Illustrator, too, because it doesn't feel that fluid there!).
