Plug-in API to temporarily disable new feature guided tours
InDesign 2025 has several new panels (History, Math Expressions, Export to Adobe Express, Insert MathML) which have associated guided “tours” which bring up windows containing animation and/or an explanation of the new feature and how to use it. The menu items for these new panels that have available guided tours are indicated by a blue dot next to the menu item before the guided tour is viewed by the user. After the guided tour has been viewed, the blue dots next to the menu items seem to disappear. These new panels and their associated guided tours sometimes open without the user choosing the related menu item. We have already reported a crash that our InDesign plug-in is having related to the History panel and our plug-in's undoing of named command sequences (bug #ID-4252030). Adobe Developer Support's solution to that issue was to have our plug-in close the History panel (using its actionID) before starting our process. We added code to close the History panel if it is open, but what we are seeing now is that the History panel can start off closed at the start of our process but then it opens with the guided tour window during the process. Rather than having our plug-in constantly checking whether the History panel is open, it would be useful to have a plug-in API that temporarily disables the automatic opening of new feature panels and related guided tour windows.

epub permissions
When a team member moves on, and their Adobe account cancelled, all live ePubs published under that account are lost, and the links currently out in the world are broken. I would like to see an additional option in the Publish Online Dashboard that allows users to add/transfer permissions to another user or the master account.

Useful feature request: Edit with... Photoshop/Illustrator with an Indesign Spread/Page overlay
I would like to see an option to Edit with Photoshop or Illustrator with an Overlay, optionally at an opacity, of rest of the Indesign page/spread elements. This would aid in area retouching/color adjustments where you need to know exactly where the items are on the page in relation to the image/vector.
Often I have to darken areas in an image behind type in Indesign and using a brush is often guess work. I have tried drop shadows and glows in the past with mixed results but usually to get specific letters to show over an image I have to brush to darken in Photoshop. Occasionally, I have had to export the pages as PDF import into Photoshop to get the precise placement I need.
Affinity has features that accommodates this ability.

Only swatches used in object, paragraph, or character styles would be synchronized.
If I don't want to synchronize swatches and object styles, but just paragraph styles.
The problem is that when I synchronize paragraph styles, all swatches are synchronized, even colors that are only used in object styles, and unnecessary swatches are added even if I deselect the swatches and and object styles in the Synchronize Options dialog.Ideally, only swatches used in object, paragraph, or character styles would be synchronized when synchronizing any of those styles.
I would like to avoid adding unnecessary swatches to the document that are not related to synchronizing any of those styles.
Also, I would like to prevent synchronization from occurring if the swatches option is deselected in the Synchronize Options dialog. However, since I don't want to synchronize the swatches, it will still be synchronized even if I deselect it.
(I deselect the swatches option after selecting any or all of those styles to synchronize.)I understand that when object, paragraph, or character styles are selected in the Synchronize Options dialog, the swatches are also be synchronized as reported in fixed issues page.
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.htmlIf all swatches are always synchronized even if the swatches option is deselected when synchronizing any of those styles,
the swatches option should be selected and inactive(grayed out) to prevent it from becoming deselected.
- Only swatches used in any styles should be synchronized, not all swatches.
- When synchronizing any styles, there should be a checkbox to synchronize or not synchronize related styles or swatches.
- These should be applied to table and cell styles as well.
- If the swatches option is not selected, it should not be synchronized, just like if any other style option is not selected.

Option to disable the drop shadow in artboard on screen mode "Normal" of the "View" menu
Please, enable an option to disable the drop shadow on the artboard in 'Normal' screen mode in the 'View' menu (on the right side and in the footer of the artboard/sheet). The shadow makes it very difficult to achieve accurate positioning and alignment of objects. I found several people on Google complaining about the same thing, and there is no solution! The "Preview", "Bleed" and "Spacer" options do not have the shadow, but they also do not display what is on the workspace outside of the artboard/sheet. The "Normal" screen mode has to look like the artboard/sheet in Illustrator. I'm sending a screenshot with the problem marked and another showing how it should look.

Parent Text Boxes (automatic text copying)
There should be a feature that allows you to mirror the text from another ("parent") text box. This feature would essentially be like the parent pages but would be focused on an individual text box/text that is linked to a parent text box. It would automatically change/copy the parent text boxes text and styles.

Rename a file from link panel
As we place a lot of files with default name inside an InDesign document, it would be great if we could rename a file from Links panel.

Publish Online: change the position of the "PDF preferences" field
You can only choose a PDF preference if you have marked the first square field under this topic. Because we normally read from top to bottom this is not logical.
Please change it so that “PDF-Einstellungen herunterladen” is under the “Benutzern gestatten, das Dokument als PDF (Druck) herunterzuladen”. In the second screenshot you can see my suggestion.

Options to individualize QR Codes
It would be nice to have some features to individualize QR-Codes.
For example to put a grafphic/trademark in the middle, rounding the edges, dots instead of squares... There could be many Options.
"qrcode-monkey" has some good options to individualize QR Codes.3 votes -
Delete unused Parent Pages
In complex documents some Parent pages can end up childless.
It would be nice to let InDesign automatically detect those, and delete 'm in one go.3 votes -
Align Panel
The Align panel has the options to align to the selection, page, margin, key object and spread. You have to click on the icon to open a drop down and choose which one. There is plenty of empty space. I attached a mockup of the way it is now vs. how it should be. As someone thats constantly aligning things to pages and then selection, quick changing would be greatly appreciated!

Create a text variable window to see and edit values faster
Right now you have to open each variable independently. Then if you want to change the value you have to save and exit each variable. Also you have to open each variable to see the value.
Please create a Text Variable Window with two columns. One for the Name the other for the value. This way we can see the variable and edit the variable. Add the add icon, and add duplicate variable icon.

Footnote starting feature
I have a suggestion
I would like to see an option to restart footnote numbering. An option to number footnotes according to paragraph style would be good.3 votes -

Opentype + Glyphs UI Menu Preview
The UI for Opentype is extremely difficult and time consuming to use. The entire thing needs to be set up like Illustrator, with one addition: PREVIEW TYPOGRAPHIC FEATURES (especially the stylistic sets).
This UI feature should behave just like the Fonts Menu: When you open the font family menu with text highlighted, each font you hover over previews on your selected text.
This needs to be replicated for Opentype and Glyphs. So once you open the dropdown for stylist sets or glyphs, each style you hover over, will preview in real time on your selected text or in a pop up menu.
Not only will this SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE USER EXPERIENCE by removing all the clunky impediments, it will also IMPROVE ACCESSIBILITY! As someone lightly vision impaired, it is extremely difficult to see small details in the font + glyphs menu.
Having the ability to preview the changes on highlighted text, allows me to see the styles at a visible scale! Please Adobe team make these changes!🙏 It will make Opentype and Glyphs easier to use and more accessible to all. 😊
Also sorry if this request already exists - it's extremely hard to search and navigate posts. 😞

Change color to the QR Codes when using Data Merge
InDesign is great for controlling your design, but when you're importing a QR code from a spreadsheet using Data Merge, it feels a bit limiting. It's like what Henry Ford said about having any color car, as long as it's black.

Mark layers as visible in the exported PDF but non-printing from within InDesign export settings
PDFs have the ability to mark layers as non-printing, so that they appear visible on the screen but don't print to hard copy. I'm using this capability to add a light raster background to all pages of a workbook for students, which adds a bit of warm color to the on-screen viewing experience, but I don't want this background to use up all their toner if they decide to print the pages. Similarly, the entire workbook has page numbers, but the worksheets should print without the page numbers, because they're not relevant outside the context of the book.
I found a solution thanks to helpful advice on Reddit (https://www.reddit.com/r/indesign/comments/191ojvr/creating_a_pdf_with_visible_objects_that_do_not/), but the solution requires changing settings in the PDF after the export, which means that you have to redo it every time. It might be preferable to have an option on the layer options within InDesign, or a set of options in the export dialogue that can be saved as part of the preset. Not only would this make for a more comfortable user experience, but it would also save a lot of hassle figuring out how to do this in the first place, because it's not obvious that there wouldn't be a way to do it in InDesign and many things look like they would work until you try them.
I've included an excerpt from the PDF to show how the result works and to better communicate how such a feature would be useful.
