  1. More responsive UX on macOS

Many macOS users will agree that InDesign feels veery laggy compared to other apps (like Affinity Publisher for example). I really wish you could finally implement a more responsive UI with native macOS UI components instead of scroll views that scroll like it's 1999! :)
Adobe XD is a really good example of what I mean by "responsive" UX on macOS. I understand that XD is much younger than InDesign, but if you don't want to miss out on the next generation of graphic designers, you should really do something about it.

    P.S.: I can't speak for the Windows people.…

  2. QR code phone number

Please add the ability to add a phone number to the QR code creator. Also to the hyperlink within an Epub or pdf online.

  3. Add a setting to make horizontal scrolling / zoom with mouse wheel match operating system

In Windows, holding shift while scrolling scrolls horizontally and holding ctrl while scrolling zooms in / out.

I would like to be able to the same behavior in InDesign so I do not have to consciously change how I navigate documents when using adobe products

  4. Inline Anchored Graphics

Inline anchored graphics should have a "release" in the menu that is not grayed-out. Custom anchored graphics have this, but inline does not. This should be remedied.

  5. Share for review user interface change to the same as shared online PDFs

Really like the Share for Review feature however the interface differs slightly to exporting to pdf and sharing an online pdf. Having explored both ways to get client feedback on designs, although as the designer I prefer Share for Review (the ability to update the link with latest changes and being able to review comments direct in InDesign through the 'Review' tab), the clients find the interface on the online shared pdf easier and clearer to use and less buggy. Could InDesigns Share for Review have the same interface/features as the online shared PDF interface.

  6. Object layer to InDesign layer

It would be great to be able to place contents from different object layers in supported image files to different Indesign layers.
I have a request from one of my printing suppliers that wants all black text to be on the same InDesign layer but currently this is not possible as the imported image, a keyline can only exist on one layer at the time. The keyline both contains a keyline frame in cyan and a keyline reference to be printed in black

  7. Have a character style option to lock to baseline grid / unlock from baseline grid

I typeset books and leading often have to adjust leading to accommodate page breaks, especially across a spread, so it is important to have this flexibility. I use alternative paragraph styles as a workaround, but this is clunky and time-consuming. Vertical justification doesn't always give the best result.

  9. Create native paths from imported vector

Convert (simple) imported Illustrator files to native InDesign paths.

This makes it easy to e.g. convert a logo and make the InDesign document independent of an external graphic.

(See how After Effects has a function 'Create Shapes from Vector Layer'. https://helpx.adobe.com/nl/after-effects/how-to/convert-illustrator-layers-to-shape-layers.html)

  10. Font Height Reference. Can we have this existing Illustrator functionality for Indesign?

This is very useful for producing legible large-format environmental graphics. Often distance legibility tables are based on the x-height or the cap height. Being able to set these directly without an Em box look-up will save a significant amount of time.

  11. An Unlock All option

I think the Unlock All option in illustrator should also be available in InDesign in the Object Tab

  12. Unlock an element via context menu (as in Illustrator)

    Hi,

an option in the context menu to unlock an element would helpful (for me) – as it is possible in Illustrator.

    Thanks!

  13. Let me export page ranges to separate PDFs

I typed in page ranges to export (i.e. 1-2, 3-4, 5-6) and was just stuck with each page in a separate PDF. Was surprised that exporting page ranges to separate PDFs was not already functional using this method.

  14. Please add back Pantone colors. We are paying for it through subscription!

We, (Us designers and print brokers), all pay for a monthly subscription to the creative suite. Its a shame that Adobe cannot come to some sort of agreement to use the STANDARD of color based over the decades. Maybe if Adobe carried a basic set and then, if users wanted the entire pantone library, they could have it as a separate subscription add on. Just Saying.

  15. Add preflight correction options like converting text to paths from Acrobat to the PDF export dialogue.

I often have to open documents in Acrobat just to convert the text into paths. Doing it in InDesign is not an option for me as it I often need the text to be editable in the InDesign file after exporting.

This could be either a single checkbox called convert text to paths or even a new Tab called PDF Corrections beneath Advanced, Security, Summary, etc where all the pdf correction options from Acrobats preflight menu are.

  16. Allow double click to open templates in CC Libraries

Opening an Indesign Template from CC Libraries requires a right click and a menu selection. Please allow a double left click for this.

  17. add absolute last page number as text variable

I cannot get a document with multiple sections, or a book with documents that contain sections, to display the absolute last page number as a text variable. They will only display the last page number of the section when using "last page" text variable. I want and "absolute last page number" text variable that would choose the absolute last page in a single document with multiple sections, and the absolute last page in a book with documents that contain sections. I want to be able to say "page 1 of 35, page 2 of 35", etc, where "35" is the…

  18. Send email notifications to more than the creator of the file

Would be helpful for InDesign to be able to send notifications if a client has marked-up edits on the assets link to more than the person who set up a file. You can add people to collaborate when creating an asset link so why can't these people get notified as well?

  20. nest pages

The pages panel is the most ridiculously cumbersome thing in the world!

I make digital planners and regularly work with documents that are over 2k pages long- there is SO MUCH SCROLLING OH MY GOD
Please make pages nestable where we can group them together and expand or hide as necessary like photoshop layers folders.
if designers are working on a book there's absolutely no need to see the entire book all the time - being able to work chapter by chapter is so much easier to manage than scrolling for a month!

Also the scrolling in the pages panel…
