  1. Page number ranges in TOC

Table of contents don't have the ability to add page ranges.

So the contents look like this:

    Section A . . . . . . . 1

    Section B . . . . . . . 5

    Section C . . . . . . . 9

When they should look like this:

    Section A . . . . . . . 1-4

    Section B . . . . . . . 5-8

    Section C . . . . . . . 9

All this needs to be implemented is to have the second number be one page less than…

  2. When placing a pdf with drag and drop...

When placing a pdf with drag and drop, rather than simply refusing to do it if the pdf being placed doesn't have a trim/crop/whatever box the same as the previously placed pdf; it would be far more polite to pop up the place options.

  3. Option to have sharp inset padding on custom shapes (image example included)

Inset padding needs to have option to be sharp or at least able to control the rounded inset. See attached image to show the issue:

  4. Add Clarivate Endnote for Indesign - Dynamic - work straight from indesign itself

No need to tell Adobe that MS Word is NOT the way to layout text and graphics, but academia is stuck using MS Word because Adobe does not have support for Endnote software. Indesign endnote features can't compete with the specific capability of the Endnote software. (Search loads of online resources for your references.
Access to full text research articles.
Access your research from the cloud.
    Automatic and bulk reference updating..
Search, read & review PDFs in your library.)
PLEASE CONSIDER ADDING. Do not want it for incopy, or to import from Word, but to layout DIRECTLY in Indesign when…

  5. Would like to be able to anchor images anywhere and have the text wrap respected

Specific anchor location is important for placements in ePub/HTML exports. However, there are a couple major drawbacks with InDesign's current anchoring abilities.

    (1) If an image is supposed to appear after a certain paragraph, but that paragraph ends on the previous spread, you cannot anchor the image to the paragraph it belongs with on the previous spread. (see screenshot: ToPreviousSpread.png). This seems to defeat the purpose of an anchored object. It can't be anchored so will not travel with re-flowing text and it will not Export to ePub/HTML in that specific location.

    (2) Images cannot be anchored after their placement…

  6. Image Editing

Built-in image editing feature, lite version that has Hue/Saturation, Levels, and Curves for InDesign so it's quick and easy to manipulate images natively in InDesign, instead of back and forth between PS & ID.

  7. Find/Change Object Position

Feature request: add object position to Find/Change so the position of repeating objects can be changed en masse. Find/Change size would also be helpful.

  8. Disable embedding assets... please...

I spend a huge amount of time in my work editing other people's artwork and the number one issue is embedded images that have been pasted in (instead of file-> place).

I have to jump through lots of hoops to get files to process correctly.

I'm not sure how it would work, but an option to have embedded files restricted by default, with a preference to allow it (with a warning dialog) would go a huge way to instilling the right working practice in new users.

And save me a huge amount of time.

  10. Select path for text wrap for Illustrator files

When applying text wrap to an image (PSD, TIF, JPEG) the user can select a path to apply text wrap to. This allows the user to edit the path within the image using Photoshop’s path editing tools. This is much better than InDesign’s pen for editing a text wrap path. This is probably the worst path editing feature in any professional graphics program. So it’s a good this we can edit that path somewhere else.

you know what program has the best pen tool? Illustrator. It also has excellent operators for paths, such as expanding paths and merging them. I…

  11. Pages Window—keep active page in center area of the window

When working on long documents, it would be extremely handy if the Pages Window kept the active page in the center of the window, so the user can see what's behind and ahead. Currently, the Pages Window keep snapping the active page to the most bottom point of the window when I tab to another reference InDesign file—that contains all of the figures, images, and tables—for copy/pasting into long file (academic book). Also, the page numbers of the last pages of the document in the Pages Window are cut off from view.

  12. When updating links (like from Illustrator) being able to select 'apply to all’

When updating imported files we get a warning that e.g. the layers are altered. In the concerning warning boxes (extra if multiple pages are involved) it would be very handy to have a checkbox to ‘apply to this or to all'.

  13. Allow (an) object(s) to have mutiple builds.

Allow (an) object(s) to have multiple builds (transitions). Allow them to build in, transition, and build out. Right now the functionality is archaic and limiting. KeyNote dwarfs Indeed on its functionality with animating objects.

  14. Grid guide for graphic frames

In much the same way that the crop tool in Photoshop has optional grid overlays (rule of thirds, golden spiral etc), Indesign could have the option to toggle these on/off for graphic frames.

This would be immensely useful for positioning images in graphic frames – for example when placing a headshot and wanting to align the subjects eye using the rule of thirds or golden ratio.

This would be far better than having to crop/resize images in Photoshop in advance, particularly because you can then adjust the size of the graphic frame in Indesign without having to redo your crop…

  15. Turn off rotate object when cursor at corner

Currently, when my cursor hovers at a corner of an object or frame, the rotation icon comes up, alternating with the expand arrow. I would like to be able to turn off the "rotate" option, as I very rarely rotate objects – but I very often scale from corners. I spend far too much time battling the cursor, which keeps wanting to rotate, not scale the object. Thus, the ability to turn off the rotate option in preferences would be a huge time saver.

Someone else posted this idea. It would be an easy fix that would really help power…

  16. See other units of measurement quickly and easily without changing them for the program.

It would be great to be able to easily see the dimensions of a document in a different unit than using to design. For example, I always design in picas, but often want to check the size in inches. Currently you have to change the units for the whole program, and then switch it back.

  17. Alignment of anchor points is a really important feature

In many many situations - when working with lines, shapes or boxes - being able to align and distribute anchor points is needed. Having to do this in Illustrator and then bring it back to InDesign is not ideal, it makes small adjustments or corrections arduous and time consuming.

  18. Highlight text in preview only

InDesign is often used for templates. It would be really cool if we could highlight text so that it's ONLY highlight in preview mode (W) and the highlight doesn't show in print, PDF etc. That way we can highlight the areas to change each time we edit a template but the highlight doesn't get printed.
