I'd like to have multiple (at least dual) views for the same InDesign document. I'm editing master pages (1 of 6 layers, guides on) and I would like to see the modifications on the normal pages (all layers on, guides off.
This might also come in handy when editing indexes or table of contents. Anyway, I can give lots of examples why multiple viewports might be ideal.2 votes
The ability to use a keyboard shortcut to toggle through "Align To:" options.
I'm constantly manually switching between, "Align to: Margin", "Align to: Page", and "Align to: Selection"4 votes
I'd like an option or a tool to quickly adjust the pasteboard size. I use that area for working out different layout and content options, and I find it strange that I have to go into the preferences to make the area larger each time I start a new file.2 votes
Does changing the preferences when ‘no document is open’ help you achieve this? That way, you don’t have to do it for each new file that you start.

I like using Content Aware Fit on most photos but it doesn't make it sense to use it on vectors like logos. So I have to turn it on and off constantly. Perhaps there could be separate preference checkboxes so that Content Aware Fit can occur when placing photos but not vectors.3 votes
Often times when using a preloaded Effect, such as drop shadow, gradient, etc., after creating you realize you don't like it or want to see what it looked like without the effect.
Rather than having to click back into the options panel to turn off the effect, it would be nice to be able to click the check mark and turn it off or on without going into the options menu.1 vote
1. Import image in Indesign (for example .jpg)
2. open context-menu and choose "edit original" via photoshop
3. Now i make various edits on the image, with multiple layer, effects etc.
4. I save the finished image as PSD to keep the editability.
Now, after i saved the image as psd, InDesign should recognise, that i saved the original image in a different fileformat and ask me, if it should update the imagelink or not.
I think it´s simplifies the workflows of many users by reducing additional steps.2 votes
without beeing able to lock comments and elements like arrows and lines, its difficult to work with imported comments. when moving elements around, imported pdf-elements also move. would be nice to lock them or to convert them into an actual layer.2 votes
It would be wonderful if InDesign could have a “floating” option for anchored frames the way that FrameMaker does: it allows one to define that, for example, an anchored frame would always be in the upper right corner of the page where the text flows that contains the anchor.
As it is now, if text is added above, the anchored frame moves down with the text, and if it hits the bottom margin, then text wraps to the next page without filling the previous page.1 vote
PLease replace the awful startup panel that looks like someone had a mental breakdown, spilling derangement over the screen in gaudy black and violet.. unbelievable that anyone could imagine this would be attractive. Luckily I mostly don't see it as my computer opens before I arrive, but every time I do I feel I want to immediately quit the program.. and send a report to you.1 vote
Baseline grid value ‘increment every’ field in paragraph menu.
- Now you have to go to preferences first. It is a significant option for layout.
Reset option for 'left indent' and 'first line left indent'. Reset to 0/0
- annoying that I first have to adjust the bottom input field and then the upper one.4 votes
I propose adding "Absolute Page Number" as a text variable. Similar to Last Page Number, "Absolute Page Number" would allow the document creator to place the absolute page number of the layout onto a page while also using another page numbering system (sections, roman numerals, etc.).
With long documents now both being used in whole or separated into parts by clients, this would allow InDesign users to fulfill the issue of having a page carry two numbering schemes at the same time.5 votes
When we set up a new indesign document for an ad or for a brochure, we incorporate slugs at the top and the bottom for tracking specs, revisions, and proofing. Our bottom slug has an internal proofing checklist that we don't like the client to see when we output for print or PDF. Before we can output we have to go into the document set up box and remove the slug at the bottom. Then we have to turn it back on when we get a revision. It would be extremely helpful if you could add slugs to the PDF and Print dialogue box's Marks and Bleed section. Here I envision the ability to turn on or off all slugs or a specific slug.
Last issue. When we do have bleeds in our documents and we output a PDF or print without bleeds but have crop marks on, a bleed does show up in the slug but not on the sides without a slug. It would be great if you could fix it where bleeds do not show up in slugs when they are not selected to print.

There should be an easy and time saving option to blur (0-100%) any elements in InDesign – just like the possibilities in Adobe XD. Especially for creating great web designs this would be a big benefit (more possibilities, less time).13 votes
I have four picture boxes that are grouped and I want to be able to auto fit or fill content to frame proportionally.1 vote
