  1. Adjust Layout - Off by default please.

Finding the new Adjust Layout in InDesign 2019 a bit of a liability as is turned ON by default.

Can you please add a setting to turn off globally and turn on only when needed? Currently doesn't seem possible.

    Thanks

The fix for this issue is now available in the latest update (14.0.2) of InDesign 2019.

If you are unable to see the update notification, open the menu (three dots) from the top-right of Creative Cloud desktop application and click on ‘Check For App Updates’.
Once the update button is shown against InDesign, click on the button to update to Id 14.0.2.

If you face any problems with the new update, do let us know in the comments.

The list of fixed issues can be found at: helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/fixed-issues.html

  2. Would like the Links panel to show status, resolution, color information for linked AI and PDF

It would be helpful to be able to view the following information for linked AI and PDF files in InDesign's links panel:

    - Color space of linked AI and PDF files
    - Status of any links or embedded art in linked AI and PDF files
    - Effective resolution for links or embedded art in linked AI and PDF files

  3. Anchored Objects should be able to be sent to back so text can print above the object

It would be nice if text could print above an anchored object

  4. Add "Blur" Panel (for all Elements like Boxes/Images/Groups) as in XD

There should be an easy and time saving option to blur (0-100%) any elements in InDesign – just like the possibilities in Adobe XD. Especially for creating great web designs this would be a big benefit (more possibilities, less time).

  6. Anchored Objects need be able to apply a text wrap when placed before their anchor point in text

For example, if the reference text for an image falls on the lower half of a right hand page, but the placement of the image works better at the top of that page—or even on the facing left hand page—the text wrap should be able to work before the object's anchor point in the text. Otherwise, when dealing with long documents, this feature is somewhat useless if you can only anchor some of your objects.

  7. Indesign Gradient Tool

Please make the gradient tool in Indesign function the same as in Illustrator, it's fiddly, cumbersome and gives you nowhere near as much control. There's no reason for it not to function the way it does.

  9. when adjusting the stroke weight with the up/down arrow, make the selections go from 1 pt, to .75, .5, etc.

right now, if i have a line selected, and use the stroke weight pales to reduce it, if i'm already 1 pt, and click the down arrow, it goes to zero pt. not helpful. it wold be great for it to go to the other increments in the list. i was kind of hoping it would be in the current version, but nah.

  10. Unequal inset values in an Object Style don't display in a text frame if corners are rounded

If you use an object style with unequal inset spacing and apply it to a text frame, the unequal spacing is ignore and made uniform.

    Steps to recreate:
    1. Create an Object Style
    2. Go to 'Text Frame General Options' for that style
    3. Set unequal values for 'Inset Spacing'
    4. Go to 'Stroke & Corner Cptions'
    5. In 'Corner Options' set 'Rounded'
    6. Create a Text Frame
    7. Fill Text Frame with placeholder text
    8. Apply Object Style to Text Frame

Result: unequal inset spacing is ignored.

If you apply unequal inset spacing manually there are no problems —…

  11. Allow users to pin their own favourites to the opening page.

Allow users to pin favourites to the opening page, so they can easily access a palette of their most used documents when they open the program.

  12. Absolute page numbers as a text variable

I propose adding "Absolute Page Number" as a text variable. Similar to Last Page Number, "Absolute Page Number" would allow the document creator to place the absolute page number of the layout onto a page while also using another page numbering system (sections, roman numerals, etc.).

With long documents now both being used in whole or separated into parts by clients, this would allow InDesign users to fulfill the issue of having a page carry two numbering schemes at the same time.

  14. InDesign Accessibility Checker feature

I use Indesign to create ADA compliant documents. I constantly have to go between InDesign and Acrobat. It would be more productive if the accessibility features in Acrobat were included in InDesign. It would also be nice to have a built in color checker included in Indesign.

Is there a plug in available??

  15. DataMerge icons/images inline into text frames

Add the ability to put file paths for icons/images with text in a cell, so that the images are merged inline with the text in a text frame. For example "Here is some text and here's an @icon.ai" would merge the icon.ai file into the text.

I know a lot of people who do work on card games using DataMerge, and this is the single most frequent request I get.

Currently the way we get around this is by merging text with placeholders like "[icon]", then copying the icon to the clipboard and doing a find and replace [icon] with…

  16. Improvement suggestions ‘paragraph’ menu

Baseline grid value ‘increment every’ field in paragraph menu.
    - Now you have to go to preferences first. It is a significant option for layout.

Reset option for 'left indent' and 'first line left indent'. Reset to 0/0
    - annoying that I first have to adjust the bottom input field and then the upper one.

Make Conditional Text more automated by either linking it with Character Styles, or utilizing the GREP Feature to globally tag text,

  18. Illustrator views / layer visibility

In Illustrator, one can create custom views, which store both pan/zoom information but also, crucially, layer and sublayer visibility information. Being able to choose among these views when importing an Illustrator file would be very useful – imagine turning 40-ish layers on or off manually.

I frequently use different instances of the same Illustrator file in my InDesign work, with different Illustrator layers visible. The ability to use custom views would simplify this greatly.

  19. Change link names from links palette

Sometimes we link to Illustrator or Photoshop files in a Guidelines document, which is a reference to that file as an asset, eg a logo.
When lots of files are used in this way we often only then see that our files (links) are not names consistently. If we change the filename, then we have to relink everything.
If we could simply rename the linked files from within the Links palette it would save a lot of time and frustration.
This option could be dangerous for larger workgroups, but any suggestions would be appreciated.

  20. Multiple viewports for the same document.

I'd like to have multiple (at least dual) views for the same InDesign document. I'm editing master pages (1 of 6 layers, guides on) and I would like to see the modifications on the normal pages (all layers on, guides off.

This might also come in handy when editing indexes or table of contents. Anyway, I can give lots of examples why multiple viewports might be ideal.
