  1. We need an Adobe product that creates charts better than a MS product!

Years have gone by without Adobe recognizing that InDesign is used for a LOT of annual reports that are chart-heavy. Built-in functionality in Illustrator is appalling at best, then to have to break a chart apart and literally re-type every label for potentially 100+ charts for a report is ridiculous. We need the ability to control the look and feel of a wide variety of charts natively (with the ability link to various data sources -- spreadsheet, odbc, etc.).

    Alternatives?
Use Excel and export as a PDF and link it. However edits are onerous when you have to change the…

  2. Increase slug area limit

We create presentation slides, export them as pdf.

These pdf slides are connected to a notes booklet for attendees.

We want to create a version for the presenter and include notes in the slug area. but the slug area can only be a maximum of 152mm wide. Can you please increase this limit.

  3. Convert paths in placed vector image to native paths

It is now finally possible to place SVG files as well as PDF files. That is great news for the many, many people who create logos and such things in SVG.

Everything you place, however, is still placed as completely uneditable images, which in many cases makes it somewhat useless. Especially with simple things like vector logos, it would be immensely useful to be able to convert the embedded vector paths in the placed file to native InDesign paths to adjust things like stroke colour, etc., in the actual InDesign document. Essentially, making it possible to use an SVG/PDF/EPS file…

  4. Outline Mode, like Illustrator does!

Hey team! How about an outline mode like illustrator? A simple command that show you everything outlined in your artwork, that would be great if you're working for pre-press. I always had the feeling that indesign should have this feature to make easier QA process!

  5. Snapping priority (ignore objects when in snapping distance from guideline and do not snap to outline)

    When both options are active:
    - snap to objects
    - snap to guidelines.

InDesign behaves like schizophrenic making bad choices. And it is impossible to place objects on level.

Also InDesign snaps inner / outer outline of object to the guide, so when you have thin outlines (below one point) you never know to which side of outline object will be snapped and it will always be on different level than object without outline. And it creates mess.

Each time when there is a guide InDesign should snap to it in first place, ignoring the objects, and also object should…

  7. Calendar & layout

I have noticed that whenever I try to create a calendar in InDesign there is not a practical way to place the day and month automatically.
For example, the software allowed me to place the number in order form one to 31 but I cannot place the date automatically, like Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday and so on.
I wish this indesign engineers can figure out a way you can add Recurring date and month autumnally. Just like the number I know that I can make a master page and the numbers can appear in order I want the software to…

  8. Auto convert heavy Ai + Pdf files so InDesign don't die on export...

Working with a lot of designers they often place very complicated and vector heavy patterens in indesign. (Ai+PDF format)

Indesign eats all - no problem.

Then the time comes and indesign need to make a PDF file, and it just dies!

I can now spend hour finding that one or more pattern with a gazillion points...

Why dont indesign say, --- > Hey! Stop! If you place this file you will not be able to make a PDF file, and i will likely crash and burn...

And then InDesign converts the file, on the fly.. And places the new file…

  9. Make guides work outside of the page like Illustrator

Self explanatory really - Make guides work outside of the page like Illustrator, so you can lay things out on the pasteboard accurately before you put it on your document.

  11. Sensei, use it to align text and shapes

    Hi all,
Could Sensei be used to align text and shapes? Seems like a no-brainer to me to let AI fix it.
An example , text in a circle.
Now if you want to align it, you first need to Frame to fit the text. Then you need to select both the textframe and the circle. Then align them horizontally and vertically. ( on some frames you need to nudge the text up a bit to really align then horizontally.
AI would could align both boundingboxes in less then a second.
    Please add it :)

  12. Adds the option to create sidenotes on Indiesign

Adding a built-in option to create side-notes in Indiesign, such comments that come next to the text where they are numbered. In addition, there will be control over whether to insert a separator between them and the main text, as well as control of the numbering style, and the paragraph or character style applied to them. Adding or subtracting one comment will update the number and position of the other comments, and if one comment goes beyond the page boundaries - move its content to the next page.
Also, the designer should be given the choice of three options - …

  13. Paragraph rule will not appear on top of anchored objects

Currently an applied paragraph rule will not appear on top of an anchored object in a text box. According to one of the Adobe experts this is a default of the program.

Our catalogue has a country heading line of type followed by an outline of the country. The graphic of the country is embedded. Visually it appears underneath the subsequent text two or three lines of type.

The paragraph rule at the end of these two or three lines of type unfortunately appears underneath the image even though the text appears on top of the image. I would like…

  14. Why haven't we got Hide Edges/Hide Bounding Box like Illustrator?

very useful for alignment, just better on the eye, without boxes and lines all over the show. Why is my Control panel shortcut/menu command intermitant?

  15. Support simpler EPS and SVG to be transfered into Path in Indesign by Right Click

and not Copy Paste via Illustrator and Indesign. Basically like the function for fonts: the Hotkey for Fonts cmd + shift + o could be used if a graphic is selected.

  16. Effect presets

When working across projects, I tend to take a screenshot of effect settings I use and then manually type adjust them to be the same. I wish we could save effect presets so I can just quick apply ones I use frequently.

  18. Unlock InDesign Layer with password

In some cases you would like to create label template (layer 1) than lock it, when you pass it to another user he can't unlock layer 1 without permission (for example password).
The use is for workflow management in order to ensure artwork consistency by using single template.

  19. I request crop overlays option in InDesign Picture Boxes for positioning placed images with more design precision. As is done with Lightroom

I request crop overlays option in InDesign Picture Boxes for positioning placed images with more design precision. As is done with Lightroom and Photoshop crop overlays, e.g., Golden Ration, rule of thirds, Golden Spiral, etc.

  20. New way to select individual text characters by marquee or dragging a box etc.

Text selection via marquee like the lasso tool in Illustrator or photoshop. This would select individual characters in live (not outlined) text for formatting just the selected characters in interesting ways. This also helps to select a column if you are working in tabbed text rather than text in a table. Also, picture a large body of text where you could highlight say a circle for instance in the middle and make it a bolder font. There used to be a plug in for Quark that did this exact thing.
