Major problem with image links
When I click on an image, the link in the links-window does not show. Note: there's nothing embedded. I'm encountering this all the time and it's very very time-consuming. How can this major problem exist in a software where placing images is really what you do with it all day layouting?
I really wonder what we pay the monthly fees for when even the most basic stuff is far from working properly.
Why is Indesign CC detoriating compared to CS6, though we pay more money?

GREP Customizing Live preflight Profile
Live Preflight is great tool of identifying and helping to prevent potential production problems, but it would be really handy if there was a possibility to create a custom GREP live preflight profile (like find/change Grep); es: check Title Case (all words are capitalized).

Relative Link Paths for InDesign
At this company we work in teams on many project simultaneously along with a massive server of shared assets. Talking to my colleagues in other companies this is quite a common thing these days. We mostly work off of InDesign for the majority of our projects. As InDesign uses linked files for composition/layout, we keep our server organized. All IDD files are worked from directly off of our server, no files are stored on any person's computer locally.
We don't need to package everything (only rarely, for sharing to external entities) because all of the content already exists on the…

Add the ability to Name Pages
We build all our digital ads in indesign. 20 pages at 20 unique sizes. When we export to jpegs, we have to go and manually name every single image with the file name.
It would be nice if we could tag the file dimensions to each page and have this information export as a suffix to the original file name.
i.e. 0000-Client Code-'600x600', 0000-Client Code-'1280x760'
The pages would allow us to assign the 600x600 and the 1280x760 to the page for exporting and would carry over from document to document.

Skip Page Numbers
Please create the option of deleting some pages from the numbering sequence. I use tabs in my documents and being able to skip them from the automatic numbering would save me so much time.

Lock Pages - Lock Pages to prevent changes when specific page design has been finalized
I'm working on a 55 page Yearbook and I'm now working on a page per page basis; I complete one page and move on. Some of the pages I know FOR SURE that they are done; I would love to be able to lock them to prevent further changes. They would not be altered by master page changes or anything else; just locked and ready to go.

InDesign not recognizing files
FILE OPEN does not recognize/show files present on hard drive. Files are present with EXPLORER and other ADOBE CC apps e.g. Photoshop, Bridge

Able to insert paragraph numbers in table of contents instead of page numbers for Chapter mini-toc
I have a chapter mini-toc that requires paragraph numbers instead of the default page numbering. it woiuld be really nice to be able to define variables or attributes and use them accordingly.

Cross-reference window really too small
I have to cross-reference dozens and dozens (not to say hundreds and hundreds) of items according to their item number. Of course, they all have a paragraph style and can be found, but not easily: the dialog box for the cross-reference is way too small, displaying only 6 items at the time and we need to scroll and scroll and scroll. On top of that, the items do not appear in alphabetical (or in this case by increasing number) but just randomly. Hair loss guaranted and nerve breaking after an hour of work on the menu too. Microsoft Office Compatibility
Documentation, documents and colors in Microsoft Word document come in differently.
It would be much better for us to work more with Office programs.

pasting to layer
When pasting, it would be nice to be able to not have to stop to select layer when there is only one layer open and simultaneously have to stop to address error message saying prev layer used is locked or hidden etc. I frequently just want stuff pasted into doc and don't care at the time which layer it falls on and do not always wish to organize as I paste etc.
the same principal applies to dragging from cc library too.

Error in InDesign
There is since several (!) updates an error in InDesign which is really stupid!
If you split the document into two windows (with the button on the right bottom) you should be able having two contents of a document. This worked for years without any problem. Bust since several version this function makes only nonsense!

Text Variable "Running Header" to work across indvidual Indesign files within a Indesign Book
"Running Header" working across multiple indesign files within a book would allow a more modular approach to book production: common elements such as headers and footers can changed globally within a book, that shares some of its content i.e. individual indesign files, with another book but whose headers and footers must be different.

The KEYBOARD INCREMENTS part of Units and Increments preferences should application level not document level.
I have to go into this panel multiple times a day to change this from 2 to 1.
It should be application level, because it all relates to how much I expect text to move when using keyboard shortcuts. Or at least let me toggle it or override.
I think this is like if my custom keyboard shortcuts were document level and I had to set them back up every time I got a file made by someone else.25 votes -
Total book pages variable
It would be VERY USEFUL to have a variable for the total pages of the book that updates automatically.
