Hi,
Thanks for reporting this issue. We have seen this issue being reported by some users ever since Paragraph Shading as a feature was introduced in InDesign.
I have marked this issue as “Under Review” for consideration by the InDesign team.-Aman

I've heard reports from several coworkers of mine that this also occurs for table borders in a similar fashion. I haven't tested it, but thought I'd add it to this issue.

When I have paragraph shading on a sequence of paragraphs, the top overset of the shading overrides and covers the underlining I have on the previous paragraph, particularly the last line. This is not apparent till I add space between the paragraphs or reduce or remove the offsets, but I want those offsets so that no gaps appear in my shading. But shouldn't underlining on text show up over shading no matter what? It shouldn't matter how big my top/bottom shading offsets are, they shouldn't cover any text or any property of the text.

Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign version - InDesign 2023. The fix should solve most of the issues that were seen earlier.
A new option "Honor Text Indents in addition to Text Wrap" is introduced in Preferences > Composition dialog. It is turned ON by default for new documents created in ID2023. For documents created in previous InDesign versions, this option is turned off by default - which can be turned ON to see the improved behavior.
Please let us know how the fix is working for you.

I'm not sure which version of InDesign you are using, but as of 2015, this is a feature. See this help article: https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/how-to/insert-image-table-cell.html

Same problem. Seems to happen a lot around tables. For instance, if I have a paragraph style with span all columns turned on preceding a table, it will crash.
