An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commentedI've created a test file with links and images and test text to try and replicate the fault. Follow the steps in the InDesign file attached.
Put simply, text – whether it is UTF-8 or UTF-16 can import unicode characters that are meant to represent emojis etc, and this is demonstrated in the test file. While not in the minion character set, I've created a GREP style that looks for unicode characters and changes them to apple color emoji. That bit works.
What does NOT work is when importing the text as part of a data merge... instead the unicode characters are completely skipped.An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commentedI've created a test file with links and images and test text to try and replicate the fault. An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commented@robinochsner - yes it can. Re-read my link and you will see screenshots of this happening.
An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commentedThis is already possible from InDesign, but it does require some setup. See my article at InDesignsecrets: https://indesignsecrets.com/applying-any-cmyk-color-during-a-data-merge.php

An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commentedIf you want to hide the start menu for good, uncheck the 'show "start" Workspace when no documents are open' checkbox in the preferences/general.
If having no luck with this, make a new blank text file in notepad or textedit and add the following line:
app.generalPreferences.showWhatsNewOnStartup = false;
save the file as "goawaystartupscreen.jsx" and save it to the following location:
/Applications/Adobe InDesign CC 2019/Scripts/startup scripts/goawaystartupscreen.jsxColin Flashman supported this idea · -

An error occurred while saving the comment Colin Flashman commentedTHIS! It also ties into giving variables the ability to go over one line.
I had a technique on indesignsecrets.com to make a side-tab with one master page that uses chartwell to 'push' the tab down the page based on the number in the section variable, BUT if I could use a GREP style to do this, I could use a GREPGraph.
IDS tab master page article: https://indesignsecrets.com/moving-side-tabs-using-only-one-master-page-and-chartwell-bars.php

Hi All,
Can you explain how this would be used, is the end goal to find a some stuff restricting the search to Tables, or is it something else. It would really help if you can share how you plan to use this new GREP code for tables.
Thanks

Until the InDesign engineers address this issue, I have a free script that will to this to INDD & PDF, and a paid script that will also export to images such as jpg, png, etc. It can be found at https://colecandoo.com/scripts/
