The fix of the issue is now available in the latest InDesign 2023(v18.2.1.455). We recommend you upgrade to the latest version for the fix.
If you are unable to see the update, go to the Creative Cloud application and click on the context menu on the top right and click on Check for App Updates.

Fix is available in the latest update of InDesign – 16.3.2 on Mac and 16.3 on Win.
Please update your copy of InDesign to the latest available update via CCD app.—

STILL NOT RESOLVED IN 16.2. Are you seriously reviewing this since jan 2020???
ID is not crashing but just 'not responding' and I have to force Quit.

Does it help if you move only the idml file to another folder, open it there and save in the original folder as indd?

On 18.1: not only Apple silicon is concverned but also Intel (iMac (Retina 5K, 27-inch, Late 2014; 4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7; 32 GB 1600 MHz DDR3). Still slow, waiting for fonts, screen redraw isn't fast as used to be
