Font Weight Not Changing
In the Character panel often it is not possible to change a font weight from Regular to Bold for example. I have to go in the font menu and select the font specifically.
Also, in the character panel the menu to change weights does not change anymore when I select a different font. For example: Metropilis Black becomes Calibri Black (which does not exist).
Clearing caches and trashing preferences does not help.

text outside of text frame
Text suddenly appears outside of frame. This happened on two different pages. In one instance, the number (which is the result of a numbered list) did not appear at all, but it had been previously there, and in other instances, the number appeared outside of the text frame. There were no overrides on the style. This suddenly happened. If i placed my cursor and started typing where the number should have been (and was with all other numbered bullets), then the disappearing number reappeared in the one case, and, in the others, the number moved back into the text frame.…

Application quits
When I highlight text and go to the font menu, the application quits. This always happens the first time I do it. From then on, it works fine. Yet, it has become very annoying. I have a Mac running on High Sierra OS 10.13.2. I'm using InDesign 13.0.1.

Double clicking the correct word in InDesign spell check
Ever since InDesign 1.0, when you used the spell check, you could double click on the correct word in the 'Suggested Corrections' area and the wrongly spelt word would be replaced, and then the spell checker would move on.
I am not sure at what stage this function stopped working, but it was definitely after CC was launched as it still works correctly in CS6. I think this is a bug.

Balance Ragged Lines and Nested Line Styles
- All Versions of Adobe InDesign up to CC 2018. macOS.
- A paragraph is formated with "Balance Ragged Lines" and single lines are formated with "Nested Line Styles"
- The lines shoud be formated as they are actual wrapped.
- The words are formated, as they would built lines, if balance ragged lines were not enabled.
- In the screenshot the second line is colored by a nested line style. The first word in the second line remains black, because it is wrapped around by balance ragged lines.

Conditional Tables: make them use the Condition Indicator
Currently, when a condition is applied to a table, there is no visible indicator in layout mode. The attached graphic shows how in Story Editor, the table is highlighted with the conditional text indicator, but in Normal mode, it is not.
But it should be.

search
I use CC 2017, but of course have seen this issue in other versions, Mac, and PC. When typing in a search term, like search term, the letters I type in show up backward, if at all, so mret chraes... which of course makes searching impossible. I can close the program, close the dialog box, and it still keeps coming up. It's so frustrating when you have 1000s of pages and need to find multiple words in between to keep opening/closing/shutting down

On the Radar? New character for uppercase "ß" in germany – dont forget to be able to disable auto-"ß" into SS…
If I use shift+"ß", InDesign changes to "SS" – so far so good. But that got revised 29.7.2017. I hope thats on InD's radar.
"Anfang 2008 wurde das große ß als neues Zeichen in den internationalen Standard Unicode für Computerzeichensätze aufgenommen, am 24. Juni 2008 trat die entsprechende Ergänzung der Norm ISO/IEC 10646 in Kraft.[1] Seit dem 29. Juni 2017 ist das ẞ Bestandteil der amtlichen deutschen Rechtschreibung.[2][3]"

InDesign freezing when pressing backspace in a text box of more than 500 or 600 words
This only seems to be a problem when using long text boxes more than a few hundred words. InDesign starts to slow down while I'm typing, but if I then select text or press backspace (mostly the latter) then InDesign freezes for 10 to 15 seconds.
I've searched the problem, but the only solution I have found is to try closing the info panel, but this seems to be a CS3 fix and doesn't work.

The order of Arabic digits is reversed when changing their character direction
- Adobe InDesign CC 2017.1
- Create a textbox, type Arabic characters including some digits. Change character direction from 'Default' to 'Right to Left'.
- Arabic letters are RTL, but Arabic digits are written LTR; So when you change character direction to RTL, they should be in their right direction.
- Letters are RTL, but digits are reversed. The problem is that Arabic script is written RTL, but its digits' direction is LTR. Just like when you move caret and logically it moves in correct direction.

Hyperlinks
I use a lot of hyperlinks in a document which link to the individual products on our website for online ordering and stock levels.
The Hyperlink panel frequently corrupts - I lose the ‘traffic light’ link status indicator and location of the link (page No.) - meaning I have to remove InDesign and execute a clean install to get the feature back.

MathML Rendering Error
In InDesign v21.0, the updated Maths Expressions Panel automatically inserts mathvariant="normal" into the root <math> element after I edit an equation using the new panel. This behaviour does not occur until the equation is edited in version 21.0, but once it happens, the MathML rendering is altered incorrectly.
Issue Details
When I open and edit an existing MathML equation in the new Maths Expressions Panel (v21.0), InDesign injects mathvariant="normal" into the <math> tag upon saving.
This overrides the default MathML behaviour and forces all <mi> elements to render upright (normal) instead of italic.• Manually deleting the attribute does not…

When importing tables through tagged text, formatting inexplicably and erratically lost; extra hard returns inserted
- Adobe InDesign 20.5
- Flow the attached .txt files (tagged text) into an InDesign file. you'll need paragraph styles "TABC", "TABH1", "TABTX", and "TAB" (the paragraph for the table). You'll also need table style "TAB" and a cell style "tabtx".
- The last cell in table 19.2 should be empty—no hard return. The the text in row 2, column 3 of table 19.4, "katab" should be italic.
- There's a hard return in the last cell of table 19.2; any text in cell R2C3 in table 19.4 is not ital (but note that the text in table 19.2 at…

The first letter typed in is English even when my system is set to Hebrew
I'm using Indesign 20.5 on an Intel Mac Pro running Mac OS Sequoia 15.6.
Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:
1. Insert a new text box and enter some English text.
2. Select the text
3. Change the keyboard input to Hebrew.
4. Start typing in Hebrew. The resulting text will be an English letter (corresponding to the Hebrew letter typed in) followed by the correct Hebrew letters typed.
Two things to note:
1. You must select all the text in the text box for this issue to take place.
2. For some reason Adobe fonts are immune…2 votes -
Bug: Wrong centered text justification in round text frames
Center-aligned text in round text frames is misaligned, i.e. too far to the left. Please see screenshots for all details.
As soon as you convert the frame to a rectangular one, text is aligned to center correctly.
This is simply a calculation bug which should be fixed now finally - it persists for years already.2 votes -
InDesign Strips Formatting When Pasting Text from Google Docs
Description:
When copying formatted text from Google Docs and pasting it directly into Adobe InDesign, all formatting (such as bold, italics, font size, and links) is lost. However, if the same text is first pasted into Microsoft Word or TextEdit, the formatting is preserved and can then be successfully pasted into InDesign. This suggests the issue is specific to InDesign’s handling of clipboard data from Google Docs. As a workaround, I currently have to use an intermediate application like Word, which slows down my workflow.Steps to Reproduce:
Copy any formatted text from Google Docs (e.g., bold, italic, links).
Paste…

[ID-4263586] Adobe InDesign 2025 text justify buttons issue
In the latest update of InDesign 2025 (as of writing this), there is a problem with the text justification buttons in the toolbar.
Previously, you could click these buttons and then just keep typing into your currently active text frame, which is what one would expect from previous versions of InDesign.
With the latest update, keyboard focus instead shifts over to these buttons, taking focus away from the text frame and your current text cursor position.
This is completely useless, and makes it more difficult than it should be to, say, change the justification at a certain line of text…2 votesWe're reviewing this issue.
