freeze
InDesign freezes when clicking a menu item before it becomes highlighted
I have encountered a reproducible UI bug in the latest version of Adobe InDesign on macOS Sequoia.
The issue occurs when using the application menus:
- Open a menu (for example Layout).
- Move the mouse to a menu item, but click very quickly, before the item has had time to become highlighted/active.
- If the click lands in the area of the menu item while it is still not highlighted, InDesign may immediately become completely unresponsive.
- The application cannot be interacted with anymore and has to be force-quit (
killall InDesign/ Force Quit).
The problem is not document-specific and can be reproduced with a new, empty document.
It seems to be related to the menu's mouse hit-testing or hover/highlight state: essentially, clicking a menu item faster than the UI can update its highlighted state can cause the entire application to freeze.
This is particularly easy to trigger for users who work quickly and are accustomed to clicking menu items immediately after opening a menu.
Keyboard shortcuts work normally, so I currently avoid using the menus whenever possible.
Expected behavior:
If the user clicks a menu item before its visual highlight has updated, InDesign should either activate the item normally or simply ignore the click. It should not freeze the entire application.Actual behavior:

Undo completely greyed out and Command-Z will not work
As described^ even force quit the application and opened holding command+option+control+shift. This only allowed me to undo once before greying out the Undo button under Edit and failing to do anything when I clicked Command-Z. Is this part of the new software update?

Bug: Span footnotes across columns does not print correctly via direct printing, only works via PDF export
InDesign 21.5.1
INFORME DE ERROR TÉCNICO (BUG REPORT) — ADOBE INDESIGN
Dirigido a: Adobe Systems Incorporated (InDesign Engineering & Development Team)

Text moves or disappears when moving text frames
I am experiencing a serious issue with text frames in Adobe InDesign on Windows.
When I move a text frame on the page, the text inside the frame sometimes moves by itself, even though I am only moving the text frame and I am not modifying or resizing it.
Sometimes, the text completely disappears from the frame and InDesign displays the red “+” overset text indicator, as if the frame had suddenly become too small to contain the text, even though I did not resize the frame.
When this happens, I can use Ctrl + Alt + C (Fit Frame to Content) and the text becomes visible again. However, the frame does not always fit the text correctly, and the same problem happens again when I move the text frame.
The issue is not limited to one document. I tested it in a completely new InDesign document and the exact same problem occurs, so it does not appear to be caused by a corrupted InDesign file.
I have already tried:
Updating InDesign to the latest available version
Resetting InDesign preferences
Changing the Dynamic Screen Redraw setting
Testing the issue in a completely new documentNone of these solutions fixed the problem.
This bug is severely affecting my workflow because I cannot reliably move or position text frames without the text moving, disappearing or becoming overset.
I have a screen recording showing the bug happening in real time and can attach it to this report.

InDesign 21.5.1 crashes or hangs midway through opening a document on Windows Server 2022
When attempting to open a document in Adobe InDesign, the loading progress bar reaches roughly 50% and then the application either freezes completely or crashes without showing an error message.
System Details:
OS: Windows Server 2022 Standard (Version 21H2 / Build 20348.5499)
InDesign Version: 21.5.1
Troubleshooting Already Attempted:
Manual Cache Deletion: Cleared the cache manually by removing files from the hidden %localappdata%\Adobe\InDesign folder.
Preference Reset Shortcut: Attempted to reset preferences on launch using Shift + Ctrl + Alt, but the confirmation dialog does not prompt at all.
Steps to Reproduce:
Launch Adobe InDesign v21.5.1.
Select and open the .indd document.
Observe the loading progress bar freeze midway before crashing or becoming unresponsive. The stack trace file is attached.

Stops working after 10-15 minutes
Version 21.5.1
When using InDesign after about 10-15 minutes, I can still see my file but I cannot do anything: I can't change anything, can't add anything, it's completely frozen. The pointer still works and can move about the page. I can click on buttons but the drop down menus don't come down, and I cannot close the file even with shortcuts or close down InDesign. I have to End Task in order for it to close down. This continues to happen repeatedly.Expected Result: InDesign should not be hanging up and forcing me to Force Quit in order to try to hobble along.
Actual Result: InDesign is hanging up after 10-15 minutes where I cannot proceed to do anything in the software.

InDesign 21.5.1 hangs after adding images
InDesign 21.5.1 hangs sometimes right after adding images to the frame. It doesn't happen every time but maybe with every fifth image. It then gets stuck in 'checking' state where editing text is unresponsive and just waiting doesn't resolve it. Simply restarting the program isn't enough so it requires bringing up task manager, ending the process and restarting computer. This happens to me and my coworker 1-2 times per day.

Bug: PDF export, replacing text with blank pages mid-document
This bug has been around for many years now, over many versions of InDesign, at least since 2020, and I think best detailed in the link below, but it seems others have reported issues of the same nature too, to which there are just no replies from Adobe.
We work on hundreds of books a year, mostly straight text - novels etc - and have found that for no discernible reason, perhaps one time in a thousand, a book will be exported containing blank pages where there should be text, though retaining the book's cropmarks, just deleting the actual text itself. I can share files with any Adobe people who contact me but can't post them publicly for copyright reasons. It's not reproducible, and seems to fix itself even if the file is totally unaltered just by doing a second export. The problem is that it's hard to spot and extremely dangerous to have software that randomly blanks out a few pages for no reason whatsoever. I would expect either a warning or a failure to export if this was the case, but it's just silently generated, with the text blanked out here and there, which makes it completely unreliable and a critical and very expensive failure. Currently running on MacOS Tahoe 26.6.2, InDesign 20.5.2, but this is a bug going back at least 6 years and multiple OSs.
For earlier details on this supposedly fixed issue see this, marked as closed:

SVG arrows point the wrong direction, so fix that
We rely on SVG for our technical diagrams, but InDesign renders them incorrectly. For some reason, all arrowheads point due east in InDesign, regardless of the alignment of the line they reside on.
Every browser I tried renders the attached SVG correctly. Let's get this fixed, guys. Thanks...
Wait, you can't attach an SVG here? That's brilliant, Adobe. It's a fundamental format in the domain of these applications. So let me spend my time zipping files up...
OK, no Zip files either? WTF? I can't wait to banish Adobe from our firm. Absolutely disrespectful, customer-robbing trash.

Unable to deselect image in latest update
When selected multiple boxes (image, text, graphic etc.) In the latest update (21.4) I am unable to deselect the image box using shift if there is an image placed which I used to be able to do. I am currently selecting what I need manually which is a pain when dealing with lots of elements.

ID very slow in scrolling with many tables
When a document has many tables, even if small ones, scrolling is abysmally slow. You can't work on it, since you can't even stop scrolling when expected, since ID continue scrolling to previous or following pages as it likes.
I had this same document in CS6 on a Mac mini Quad-Core 2012. It was faster than with the latest ID on a Mac mini M4 Pro.
