  1. ID 17 English LTR document with any RTL text exports as RTL epub

I edited this to remove the urgent notice. The publisher does not want to publish this book as an epub.

    The basic problem remains, however.

When exporting an epub 3.0 from an academic book written in English with some RTL text sections, typically tables with Hebrew and English text, the epub exports in reverse order. That is, the title page is at the end of the epub, and the last page of the text is the first in the epub. So far it seems that the presence of any RTL elements, even a single character, causes the epub to export…

  2. Redefine Character Style not available

When changing the parameters of a selection that has a Character Style applied, the 'Redefine Style' should become available in the Character Style's contextual menu. But unfortunately, this is not the case.

  3. story editor

Using Indesign 17.2 on x64 PC. Brand-new machine with fresh install.

To reproduce the issue open the story editor then close it.

Expected result: The story editor closes and I can resume working in the main document window immediately.

Actual result: When I close the story editor, the window disappears but all the tools on the toolbar, except the text tool, remain greyed out and I can't do anything in the main document for around 30 seconds.

  4. Reveal in finder not working

Reveal in finder not working when right clicking tab at the top of open document. Clicking "reveal in finder" brings all open finder windows to front, but does not reveal the correct file location, nor any files if no existing windows are open.

  5. Convert Footnotes and Endnotes problem and a bonus scripting problem with special characters

    Indesign 17 on MacOs 12.3.1

Convert Footnotes and Endnotes does not work when the footnotes does not have a footnote number.

I have an Indesign document with footnotes.
In each footnote I have removed the footnote number and the following tab character. (~F\t)

I need these footnotes to be endnotes but this is not possible with the command "Convert Footnotes and Endnotes".

Without the footnote number in the footnotes the command/script does not recognise the footnotes as being footnotes.

They are however still footnotes and I can continue working with them as footnotes and also address them via scripting but…

  6. PDF export fails when placed svg has a smlns:sxlink attribute

There's an error in exporting to PDF from Indesign when you have an SVG placed, and that SVG contains an smlns:sxlink attribute - this makes it impossible to create the PDF (and thus, use the software to create your document).

The 'PDF export failed' error message doesn't give any info on how to fix the issue. And the default .svg export from Illustrator adds in that .svg attribute... so I create my graphics in Illustrator... but then they prevent my InDesign file from creating documents! Not great.

If you remove the part that says:
    xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"

    Then the opening…

  7. Out of a blue, white text on colour background stopped showing in exported pdf's. InDesign 17.2

It is the same exact document I exported into pdf 12 days prior with no issues. NOTHING has been changed other than the background colour & tracking of the paragraph style. And NO, this is NOT an overprint issue, I have read that thread through. And NO, this is NOT a version issue either, the same exact version. I could not get this report through with screenshots attached.

And oh, this is not only a pdf-related issue, it's the same thing with exported jpg.

  9. importing multiple illustrator artboards into empty frames no longer works

With the 2021 version of indesign I could 'load' my cursor with an illustrator file and select 'all' artboards, then i could 'drop' each artboard into an empty indesign frame - this no longer works in the 2022 version (17.2). Instead it just drops the first image in and the loaded cursor 'cancels'.

  10. Trackpad pinch to zoom stops working

I'm working on a new 2021 Mac and across all adobe programs pinch to zoom on the track pad will often stop working. I then have to turn the gestures settings on and off either within the app or on System Preferences (it varies on which one works) to reset it. Or I have to quit the app and restart, which is very disruptive to my workflow.

I am up to date in creative cloud as of today – 22/04/22

  11. Tab order window is not resizable

I design a lot of long forms inside of InDesign. Part of this process is getting the tab order correct. The Tab Order window only displays 9 rows and is not resizable. This makes at a glance review of the tab order impossible.

Additionally, dragging and dropping rows above/below each other is broken. The blue line that signifies where I am about to drag something to does not always match up with where the drop actually happens. Sometimes it can be above another field.

Similarly, if I move a block of rows at once, the view of the window will…

  14. Cross reference forces line break

    1. Indesign 17 and 16
    2. Write text in textbox. Insert cross reference close to the text box right boundary.
    3. I expect the cross reference to fit that line
    4. It is forced to line break.
    5. See attached files (red arrow).
    6. The problem does not occur when using Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer but when using (the normal) Adobe Paragraph Composer.

  15. Indesign is unusable

Since the last update Indesign is barely usable. It crashes 10 times a day and with no explanation. Changing fonts, placing objects, updating graphics, all seem to cause it to crash. Suitcase is also causing problems with Adobe fonts which I can't seem to resolve. This is by far the worst update to Indesign that has come out. Forget adding new features, fix the problems with the program first so it is at least usuable.

  17. object export options does not open

Click on Object export options (I assigned ALT+E) does not respond either from shortcut key or from menu, therefore unable to assign alternative text, any structure instructions for export to accessible pdf. Using latest version and only a problem since new licence deal signed with NSW DPI.

  18. translation German

    See here: https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/wrong-translation-in-german-version-of-indesign/td-p/12853784

    Object→Object Export Options: EPUB tab:
epub:type should be translated to epub:Typ and not "Schrift" which is basically the font type.

  20. Optical kerning too wide between apostrophe and lowercase d

I'm using InDesign 17.1 but I believe this is a longstanding bug. When using optical kerning, the visual distance between an apostrophe and a lowercase d is too wide. I'm attaching a screenshot with examples using I'd, She'd, and Who'd. The upper version of each one uses optical kerning, while the lower version is where I have manually adjusted the kerning to something more like it should be. I also include examples of the pleasing optical kerning shown by other apostrophe-letter pairs.

Most relevant is the apostrophe s combination. The lowercase s has an upper left curve similar to the…
