2. InDesign fails to open .indd files from Finder when full path is long on APFS external drive

   Environment:
   - macOS: 26.4.1
   - InDesign version: 21.3
   - Drive format: APFS external SSD
   - File location: /Volumes/nollueP41/작업드라이브/01프로젝트별/국립환경인재개발원/01_폐기물처리 및 자원순환의 이해 2기/작업/폐기물처리 및 자원순환의 이해 2기.indd

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Place an .indd file in a deep folder path on an APFS external drive.
   2. Double-click the .indd file in Finder.
   3. InDesign launches or becomes active, but shows the error:
   “Missing required parameter 'from' for method 'open'.”
   4. Move the same file to the root level or a shorter path on the same external drive.
   5. Double-click again.

   Expected result:
   The .indd file should open normally from Finder regardless of full path length, as long as the path is valid in macOS.

   Actual result:
   The file fails to open from Finder when the full path is long. The same file opens normally via File > Open inside InDesign, and also opens when dragged into the InDesign window. Other file types such as PDF open normally from the same folder path.

   Additional notes:
   This appears to be an InDesign-specific issue handling long full paths passed from Finder, not a macOS file system issue.

   Environment:
   - macOS: 26.4.1
   - InDesign version: 21.3

3. InCopy is creating "phantom hyperlinks" in InDesign

   Our InCopy editors are adding hyperlinks but they aren't showing up in InDesign. To make things worse, you can no longer add a hyperlink to the text. I discovered that InCopy is leaving phantom hyperlinks and it seems to be a bug, or at least has caused us considerable consternation. (I'm using InDesign 2026 v21.0.2 and InCopy 2026 v21.3).

   Okay, I’ve gone deep into the rabbit hole and I think I’ve figured out the problem with hyperlinks not showing up, or text you can’t add a hyperlink to. It’s a lengthy, complex explanation so I’ll start with the all too easy fix and then explain why. 

   THE FIX: When you create a link in InCopy, you have to click the “Shared Hyperlink Destination” button.

   This really only applies to multiple links that have the same destination, like how Supplemental Table 1 and Supplemental Table 2 both go to the same URL, but I don’t think it will hurt to click it for every link, just in case that URL gets repeated later on.

   If you don’t click Shared Hyperlink Destination, only the first hyperlink will show up in the Hyperlinks panel, and the rest become phantom links.

   And to make things worse, apparently this isn’t an issue when you make a link in InDesign. It only happens in InCopy. 

   If I’m right, this will fix the problem. At least, it worked when I tried it. We’ll have to see if it works all the time.

   THE EXPLANATION for us InDesign nerds.

   If there’s text that you can’t make into a hyperlink (the New Hyperlink option is greyed out) it’s because there’s already a link there, but for some reason it’s not showing up in the Hyperlinks panel. It’s a phantom link. However, you can still see the phantom link if you open it in Story Editor.  Story Editor shows where the link is, but you can’t edit it or add a new link to the text. 

   The only way to fix it is to retype the text outside of the link brackets, or copy and paste the text out of the brackets (except the link sticks to the first character so you can’t copy that, which is yet another pain). After you retype the text, you can highlight the link (everything in the brackets) and delete it, and then you are able to add a hyperlink to the retyped text.  You have to do this for each phantom link individually. This is an annoying and cumbersome fix, but we’ve known about it for a while.

   I made a quick script to look for the phantom hyperlinks, but all it shows me are the hyperlinks in the Hyperlinks panel, so I can’t find the phantom links that show up in the Story Editor with a script. I may explore that some more in case the issue arises again.

   But in any case, it looks like the links are losing their destination URL in InCopy because the URL is already taken by another link, but the hyperlink still remains and won’t show up in the Hyperlinks panel because there’s no destination. InDesign sees an empty link and doesn’t show it on the panel. However, when you use the shared destination button, all the links just point to that one URL and share it, and it shows up in the Hyperlinks panel. I’m going to report this to InDesign as a bug.

   Whew!

   Our InCopy editors are adding hyperlinks but they aren't showing up in InDesign. To make things worse, you can no longer add a hyperlink to the text. I discovered that InCopy is leaving phantom hyperlinks and it seems to be a bug, or at least has caused us considerable consternation. (I'm using InDesign 2026 v21.0.2 and InCopy 2026 v21.3).

5. Shadow with Registration color BUG

   Якщо на сторінці є обьєкт зі спотовим кольором, наприклад з пантоном, і у будь-якого іншого обьєкта є тінь з кольором регістрейшн, то цей спот-колір потрапить у тінь. Таким чином на сепараціях окрім 4 каналів, які відображають цю тінь, зьявиться додатковий, у якому теж зьявиться зображення тої самої тіні.
   Після перевірки я побачив, що те саме стається не тільки з тінню, а й з іншими обьєктами, що мають колір регістрейшн. Висновок: Індизайн вважає, що регістрейшн містить не 4 ЦМІК канали, а ВСІ фарби, що є у документі, включно зі спотовими. У попередніх версіях Індизайну такого не було.

6. group size error when turning page

   Create a group of objects, for example, a text block plus a rectangle, and also the same rectangle separately. Then create a new page and rotate it 90 degrees in the page management window. Copy your group and the individual rectangle from the old page and place it on the flipped one. Now enter new dimensions, for example 100 by 10 mm for the group and for the rectangle. The individual rectangle will get the correct dimensions, taking into account the fact that the page is rotated 90 degrees. However, the group will have an error - the vertical dimensions will become the horizontal dimensions and vice versa. You will clearly see how the individual rectangle deforms and how the group changes even though you entered the same values ​​for them.

7. ungrouping error

   If you copy a group of objects to another layer in InDesign, and then ungroup it, those objects disappear. But what actually happens is this: take the group on layer 1, copy it to layer 2, ungroup it. They will disappear from layer 2 and appear on layer 1 UNDER the group object on the original layer 1. And you can turn off the visibility of layer 1 or even lock it completely before ungrouping the objects on layer 2, but what will happen is that the objects will be moved to layer 1 from layer 2 and hidden under the original group of objects.

8. InDesign – open dialog – file types selection – INDD, PDF

   I am used to InDeign allowing me to open ONLY native files. I always keep InDesign files with pdf-s (named exactly the same) in one folder. Since InDesign is able to open / convert pdf files I often open pdf instead of indesign file, which makes my job much harder and more frustrating, than it needs to be.

   Problem is that in file types section of the dialog I cannot select only indd files (which should be default option). Please, fix it! Thanks!!!

9. Unresponsive Panel Icons & Graphical Overlap when Importing Illustrator Files

   1. Panel UI Issue:

   Issue: Double-clicking icons in the collapsed right panel does not activate them. Shortcuts also fail to open the panels.

   Current Workaround: Panels only open when clicking the small '<<' (Expand) icon at the top of the dock.

   1. Illustrator Import/Update Issue:

   Issue: When importing or updating an .ai file, InDesign occasionally displays a "ghost" image where the previous version and the updated version overlap.

   Current Workaround: I have to delete the link and re-import the file from scratch to fix the display.

12. Bug Hyperlink character style applied

    When copy/pasting a text frame, and the text frame contains a hyperlink without a character style applied, in the new pasted frame the hyperlink has the Hyperlink character style applied. Do not change formatting when copy/pasting text frames.

    Was ich in InDesign vermisse: es gibt zwar ein Konturwerkzeug auch für Textfelder, aber keine Möglichkeit, eine Zierlinie am Textfeld unten anzubringen. Ich habe in Handbüchern nichts gefunden. Es geht darum, nicht komplette Umrandungen zu erstellen, sondern eine Zierlinie am unteren Rand. In den beigefügten Dateien sehen Sie ein Beispiel von MS Publisher.

15. Text disappears.

    Entire page of text disappears randomly. InDesign provided a temporary fix and then a more permanent one in the most recent update. Worked for awhile. Has started happening again. Have to use revert key to get back text and start over.

16. Text whites out and becomes invisible while writing

    I have 2 issues. 1. Since the newest update the program takes an extra long time to load when opening, and 2. the whole body of text turns invisible while writing, frequently and repeatedly. It's very disruptive and frustrating, as there is no sure way to get the text to become visible again. It does return to visibility after either typing, or using the space bar a number of times, but it just turns invisible nearly right away if not right away again. It's not unusable, but it is very unpleasant to use.

17. Problem: user-specific overprinting

    Hello,

    since version 2026, user-defined overprinting no longer works.

    The following error message appears when printing: Printing error: The Adobe print engine could not output its data due to an unknown problem.

    It works perfectly fine from InDesign 2025 (on the same computer/operating system).

18. Lenteur extrême indesign 2026

    Bonjour,
    depuis environ 1 semaine (dernière mise à jour 21.1 x64 d'InDesign sur PC), chaque lettre ajoutée à un document dans InDesign 2026 met presque 10 secondes avant d'apparaître et que je puisse agir de nouveau sur mon document. Même chose pour sélectionner un mot ou pour effectuer la moindre action dans un texte en cours d'édition. seule le curseur bouge normalement, mais il disparaît tant que l'action en cours n'a pas été réalisée.
    J'ai désinstallé et réinstallé InDesign en supprimant les préférences. rien n'a changé.
    J'ai réinitialisé les préférences et rien n'a changé.
    Mon système est très récent :
    - Processeur : AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor (3.80 GHz)
    - Mémoire RAM installée : 32,0 Go (31,1 Go utilisable)
    - Système d’exploitation 64 bits, processeur x64
    - Windows 11 Famille - Version 25H2 - Installé le ‎11/‎07/‎2025
    Build du système d’exploitation 26200.7623
    Carte graphique : NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050

    C'est une panne critique pour moi car en tant qu'éditeur, je ne peux plus travailler correctement ni rapidement sur les livres en cours alors que tout allait bien avec ces mêmes dossiers il n'y a que quelques jours.
    Merci de me donner une solution qui rétablisse le fonctionnement normal d'InDesign.

20. Preflight not showing all results

    I have a custom profile set up for preflight checks and although 614 problems are reported, in 2 categories, I can only see about the first 100 of each category. For example, the color space issues are shown only up to page 15, while my document has 180 pages. I am using InDesign 21.0.2.
