1. HarfBuzz introduced in v2024 is not honouring the spacings properly

   Harfbaaz text engine is not taking care of spacings properly specially when using Arabic or Urdu script. Files attached before and after. Without harfbaaz, settings look more natural. On tweaking the settings further does not make much difference.

2. Major delay when changing page via the page up/down or double-clicking on the page icon

   Major delay when changing page via the page up/down or double-clicking on the page icon. Usually happens when you have first opened a document. For example when you apply the keyboard command Opt-Pagedown, the icon on the bottom left of the screen immediately shows the page has changed but nothing happens. 3. Document.metadataPreferences and linkXMP entries only return first delimited value

   Steps to reproduce:
   1. Create new Indesign document
   2. Choose File menu > File Info
   3. In the Author field, enter "Jack; Jill" (excluding quotes)
   4. Click OK
   5. Run script "alert(app.activeDocument.metadataPreferences.author);"

   Result:
   "Jack"

   Expected result:
   Either "Jack; Jill" or ["Jack","Jill"]

4. Data Merge to PDF duplicating fields

   When using Export to PDF directly from the Data Merge tab the first 3 records are duplicated on each page. It uses the same data on every single page. If you first create an InDesign merged document the data is correct

5. switching between open files

   Version 17.1
   Every time I have two ID files open (or more than one file), switching between them takes approximately 30 seconds. This has been happening on and off for a few months, but now happens every time I have more than one file open.

6. On master page spread, items get applied to the wrong page

   Say I have a two-page master, with facing pages turned on.
   And say I have a rectangle spanning the top edge of my left page, and say the right page is empty.

   When I apply this master to a right sided page (thus using only the right side master), the left rectangle will be rendered onto the left page, even though it shouldn't (as the rectangle belongs to the left handed master, which isn't applied).

   This happens when the rectangle is touching the spine, and it's probably rendered by indesign as being part of the right master.
   This happens even when the reference point of the rectangle is changed to be on the far side (with regard to the spine).

   This is usually fixed by moving the rectangle a point away from the spine, but from searching online it seems like it doesn't always fix it. Moreover, this "fix" is still bad and serves as a bad-practice patch.

   This appears to exist for a few years now, and all the answers to this topic are "we released an update", that obviously didn't solve the problem.

8. primary text frames threading is not honored on document pages

   1. Adobe InDesign 15.0.1 x64 (Windows 10)
   2. Facing pages document. I create a master page that includes two text frames per page--creating a two column spread on each page. I designate the leftmost frame as the primary text frame, and then manually link it to the frame just to its right. That frame is then linked to the leftmost frame on the right side page, and that one is linked to the frame furthest to the right. So the frames are linked, from left to right: frame 1 is primary, which is linked to frame 2, then to frame 3 (on the other page) and then to frame 4.

   Using the pages panel, I manually insert four pages into my document, assigning the new master page to these pages. The first three text frames are threaded correctly, but then the threading goes completely haywire.

   1. I would expect the new blank pages to replicate the text threading order that I created on my master page.

   2. The text threading goes wacky. I have included an image to demonstrate.

   This seems similar to the problem posted in this Bug report (34661228-based-on-master-pages-don-t-inherit-primary-text-f.html) however on the document pages my text frames ARE threaded, just not threaded in the same manner as they were on my master pages. Plus, I am using a much later version of InDesign than the one that fixed that particular problem.

9. Source Serif Pro font baseline not consistent

   I'm using Indesign 15.0 on MacBook Pro (Retina, Mid 2012) running Mojave version 10.14.6

   I'm experiencing a bug with the Source Serif Pro font , which I use extensively in a particular project.

   I open an existing document, and the text in Source Serif Pro looks as you'd expect it to. When I start to edit the text however, it all jumps down as if the baseline settings of the text frame has been changed (although checking in the settings confirms they haven't been).

   Copying and pasting the frame, or the text into a new frame, doesn't help.

   It only happens with Source Serif Pro (all weights) - if I change the font, even to other Adobe Fonts it doesn't happen. It also happens in new documents.

   It may be worth mentioning that a colleague works on the same Indesign files on a PC (we share the files via Dropbox) but he doesn't experience the issue.

   We both share another related bug with Source Serif Pro in that quotation marks just display as 'straight' even though 'use typographer's quotes' is turned on in preferences. This can't be fixed through the Glyphs panel either.

   My feeling is it's something to do with this particular font being used a lot over 2 different platforms.

11. pasteboard changes size when pasting things

    InDesign CC 14.0.1 x64

    Pasting things sometimes changes the size of the pasteboard drastically. Pasteboard margins could be set at 10 in and 10 in and they change to a few inches horizontally and less than an inch vertically. We keep things on the pasteboard. This causes us to fix the pasteboard size many times throughout the day in multiple documents. Over and over again.

    We have tried the scenario on latest InDesign 13.1 and we are able to find the in “document” “all document” as set in dialog without any problem.
    Please elaborate the steps for reproducing the issue. That would be really helpful.

14. Bug with search and replace on locked layers

    Hi all,
    it seems I’ve found an InDesign bug that is creating some problem on a project for a customer.
    I have a document with a table nested inside another table, the layer is locked but I’m able to find the text inside the nested table even if the “search on locked layer” is inactive.
    I can also apply another paragraph style to the text inside the nested table (with the layer locked) and this is causing some problem because I need to change the styles of the text of unlocked layers with a script.

15. Master-double-page with bleed makes mistake in assigning a single page

    1. InDesign 2017.1
    2. DIN A5 document with double-page and 3 mm bleed. On master-double-page A is no background and on master-double-page B is a full-faced background on the left page and a full-faced background on the right page. If I assign the right page of master-page B, the left page-background will also displayed on the left page (assigned with master page A, where is no background!!!). This just happens if the background of the master-page is set to the bleed (on top-left and bottom). The backgrounds are exact positioned and are not on the opposite page. See screenshots!

16. Running Header Removes ZWNJ (Zero-width non-joiner) Character (U+200C)

    I want to use Running Header to have the section name at the top of the pages.
    The section title has Zwnj character (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zero-width_non-joiner) but running header removes this character (U+200C).

    We have released an update for InDesign CC2019 (v 14.0.1) which contains fixes for some key issues. If you are not already on 14.0.1 (build 209), then we recommend you to update to latest version.

    If you still face this issue even after updating, please send the following information to santalwa@adobe.com :

    Reproducible Steps –
    • Try opening the document with other option (File→Open(Copy))
    • What were you doing when the issue was observed in InDesign?
    • Error snapshot or video recording of the issue.

17. History panel logs issues

    The history panel does not allow some actions to be undone. One is the act of stepping back several steps. As long as no new actions are done, you can step forward again, but as soon as you complete a new action, the inbetween steps disappear. The undo/redo history is also cleared; only new actions completed after that point can be undone. This is a problem because is makes it impossible to test various options and then quickly return to the original option, as I have often done in the past. Instead, the desired option must be set up again from scratch. (tested in v. 20.1, but also caused issues in older versions)

    • Actions logged appear to update/condense/disappear when switching to and from the Type tool. For example, if I create a text frame, enter some text, and then apply a stroke, the “Create text frame” option is no longer visible in the history panel, nor can it be undone with undo. If I create a 2nd text frame, all the previous steps for the first text frame disappear. Because “open” remains as the first action, it appears as if no other new actions were completed, but this is entirely false. Losing the ability to undo one’s actions is a serious hindrance. Undo history should not be cleared until the document is closed. I have also noticed there is sometimes a significant lag when switching to and from the text tool, and I suspect it has something to do with this. (tested in v. 20.1, did not notice before)

    • Many actions logged are too vague to identify, especially when multiple instances of the same action occur. It would be ideal if, instead of “Typing,” one would see “Typing 123…” Link updates could include a right click option to jump to the affected link. Alternately, selecting a step could select the affected text or object, or a page number could be made visible in the panel. It would also be helpful to save a thumbnail at certain points. (in all versions I have used, current version is 20.1)

18. [ID-4255870] Document Fonts available even if not active

    Working on an indesign document that has its own “Document Fonts” folder that contains fonts specific to that document (not activated anywhere else), then switching to a new document that does not have any “Document Fonts” folder, the fonts of the previous document are still available, but if I close indesign completely and then reopen the new document the fonts are no longer available.

    This is not correct, fonts that are not activated or not present in the “Document Fonts” folder specific to that document, should not be available for other documents that do not reside in the same folder.

    The old version of indesign (19.5) didn't do this.

    Furthermore, if you export a PDF of a document that contains a non-activated font, but which is displayed correctly due to the above, in the generated PDF the font will be replaced by a system font (Minion Pro, Times, etc.)

19. Master page Items on left page missing when overriden on right page's master page when both master pages are based on the same parent

    OK, this bug is INCREDIBLY specific, but unfortunately is completely breaking my project. Example PDF below and INDD file in Google Drive folder here:

    I'm trying to make a multilingual instructions manual (A4, facing pages, 3mm bleed on all sides) with tabs on the page edges for each language. I have one master page "A-Gabarit" which has all the general layout elements and all the language tabs grayed out, and for each language, I have a master page based on A where I override the one tab for that language to color it black (so the EN master page is based on A and has the EN tab overridden, the FR master page is also based on A and has the FR tab overridden and so on)

    What's happening is that depending on how the spread's pages have their master page assigned, some objects dissapear when they shouldn't:
    - If both the left and right pages have A master, everything displays fine
    - If the left page has A master, and the right has EN master, then anything from A that was overridden in the EN master dissappears from the left page, the rest remains.
    - If the left page has EN master, and the right has A master, then everything works fine.
    - If both pages start with A master, and any other master page is applied to the right page, objects overridden in the right page's template will dissappear from the left, even though they were there right before. They reappear if the right page's template is switched back to A again.
    - Finally, and worst part: if the left page has EN master, and the right page has FR master, objects from common parent A master that were not overridden in EN, but were overridden in FR, will dissappear from the left page, so it doesn't actually matter that the left page has the parent master page or another child master based on the same parent, just that it shares elements from the same parent master page as the right page

    The issue only ever appears on the left page

    PDF output is affected, it's not just a display issue.

    My workaround, so far, is to duplicate the colored tabs in each child variant on top of the existing one instead of trying to override them, so that the original is preserved and doesn't dissappear on the left page, or alternately, rebuild all master pages with no "based on X" relation and no overrides, defeating the purpose of having master pages based on other master pages (ouch)

    I'm guessing that when applying master pages on the right page, InDesign is handling overrides on a spread-level instead of a page level, which is problematic when both pages of a spread are using different master pages based on the same parent master page (this has never been an issue for me up until now). Expected behaviour would be for each page to show their own master page content in any context without interference from the facing page.

    OK, this bug is INCREDIBLY specific, but unfortunately is completely breaking my project. Example PDF below and INDD file in Google Drive folder here:

20. Crop tool namings for german version are irritating

    A view months ago I was posting this issue to the community board already. :-) Thanks to Mr. Tyson for directing me to this page here:

    Dear InDesign team,

    The assistance describes the differences between the three boxes named "crop", "trim" and "bleed".

    Well, in English there is no mistake if I'm going to import a PDF into my InDesign document, e.g. I'd like to display the final cutted format, than I choose for "Trim" or if I need to prepare a page for professional print shops than choosing "Bleed".

    But in the german edition the namings seem to be inconsequent. In comparison with the Acrobat Crop Tools and the InDesign Import Options
    "T r i m" should be the counterpart to "E n d f o r m a t" or "Z u s c h n i t t"
    while "A n s c h n i t t" seems to be the correct interpretation of "B l e e d".
    Accordingly, "C r o p" would be referred to the german word "B e s c h n i t t ".

    The best woud be, if you replace the german wording of the InDesign "import options" as seen on the following screenshot.

    And for example: an imported PDF with varius import options.
