Following the Dec 2025 CU (KB5072033) for Windows being installed, our Publishing Team reported Adobe InDesign was reporting "missing font" errors (for the Times New Roman font) in all files.
Our organisation had upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 in Nov. The Windows 11 image had the Oct 2025 CU (originally Oct 14 KB5066835 which was superseded by Oct 20 KB5070773) and there were no issues with InDesign.
It would appear this community started reporting issues following the Nov 2025 CU (KB5068861) for Windows 11.
We are using the following steps (which we have scripted) as a workaround:
1. Copy the four TNR font files from C:\Windows\Fonts directory on a Windows 11 computer running Oct 2025 CU to a network share. Each file has the version 7.05.
- times.ttf
- timesbd.ttf
- timesbi.ttf
- timesi.ttf2. For an affected computer, get all users to sign out. This is important otherwise the font files will be locked by system.
3. From a remote computer using an admin account:
a. Take ownership of the four TNF font files (e.g. takeown /F \\<computer>\c$\Windows\Fonts\times.ttf)
b. Grant full access to the four TNF font files for administrators (e.g. \\<computer>\c$\Windows\Fonts\times.ttf /E /G Administrators:F
c. Copy the four font files from network share to affected computer (e.g. copy /Y "<FONTSOURCE>\times.ttf" "\\<computer>\c$\Windows\Fonts")
d. Restart computer (e.g. shutdown /r /m \\<computer> /t 5 /fOther:
Pre Nov CU the TNR font version was 7.05
In Nov CU TNR font version went to 7.10
In Dec CU TNR font version went to 7.11 -

I've been having this issue with Segoe UI ever since I did the Microsoft Security Update KB5068861. My company won't allow me to uninstall it. And this is not something users can fix on our end. So, I'm stuck having to replace a font THAT I ALREADY HAVE INSTALLED for every document this font it in, which by the way is hundreds of documents. My company uses this font in every single document. This is not only affecting Segoe UI but also Times New Roman, one of the most widely used fonts. I find it ridiculous and unacceptable that Adobe has known about this issue since November and still hasn't fixed it. Adobe is a BILLION-dollar company worth $141.93B, yet is too incompetent to fix a worldwide issue and has given no updates in the 45 days it's been aware of this? It seems Adobe prioritizes enriching executives and shareholders over maintaining its software to the highest standard for its customers that are already paying a ridiculous amount in subscription fees.

I'm having the same issue. Ever since the latest InDesign update, I get a missing font message for Times New Roman, even though it exists. It tells me that Times New Roman (OTF) and all its typefaces aren't available. I have to replace them with Times New Roman that is already installed. I have several hundred documents using Times New Roman, so simply replacing is not a good long term option.
I had our IT work on it today for several hours, and it was determined to be an Adobe issue, not a MicroSoft issue. We tried updating to the latest Adobe InDesign, and that failed to solve the issue as well.
I have a video screenshot--not sure it attached here--if you need it. -

I also have this same problem but cannot go back and uninstall the original problem security update. Is there a solution to this problem yet? Do I have to reinstall the OS and everything else to get back to the point where I can choose not to install the security update(s)? Just "not installing security updates" cannot be the final solution to this problem.

Also having this problem. Computer updates are determined by my employer, so I cannot backtrack on them to test that. This issue happens upon opening nearly any InDesign file that was previously created - it claims it cannot find Times New Roman (OTF) Regular, despite me having used the TT version if anything and, most of the time, not having this font on the file at all.

What triggers this issue for me is turning on Windows Update on my Windows 11 PC. It appears to be security updates that are causing the issue, so not ideal to have to keep those switched off. At first it was Security update KB5068861 and then, on Dec. 20, when I turned updates back on, it was Security update KB5072033 that caused the issue. All Indesign files are fine prior to the update install. After the updates are installed, Times New Roman in all Indesign files throws a missing font error. Upon uninstalling the Windows security update, all Indesign files are once again fine. It does not appear to be specific files, just the font itself. I've attached screenshots of the font info prior to installing the Windows Security update and what is being shown after the Windows Security update is installed and Times New Roman is giving the missing font error.

This is related to the windows latest security update KB5068861. Installing it creates the font issues described. Uninstalling the security update fixes the issue but this needs a better resolution from Adobe and Microsoft.
