[macOS Sonoma]White Screen on drawing marquee/highlighting text in CPU and Overprint Preview modes
Hi,
Since I've updated my mac mini to Sonoma, when I use InDesign, the documents flash every time I click on it. If I click and hold, the screen become completely white. This is very annoying, almost impossible to work.
Please help me!

When I use GPU I get another problem which is why I turned it off in the first place. Please see the attached image to see how everything turns red, black and/or green.

How does it work ok on Illustrator and Photoshop but not InDesign? That doesn't sound like purely an Apple issue - it sounds like InDesign code is based on 'non-recommended' practices and now it's too late to fix.
Sounds like you want Apple to make your code work again because you don't want/can't fix it yourself. -

The white ALSO happens WITH GPU preview on when using overprint preview...

I turned GPU preview on and that seems to have fixed it -- but I had turned it off before to solve another problem (red, green, black stretching across my document), so I hope that old problem doesn't come back!

The images show the document before and after clicking with the mouse. When I release the click, my document comes back, but this makes it really difficult to select anything!

Confiming that the 'Turn Rulers Off' fixes the white screen generated when using the selection and direct selection tools.
Note to K. Smith: I certainly never would have guessed to try toggling the rulers as a bug fix- well done and thank you for posting your workaround.
I have reported this and a few Photoshop issues to Apple.
Granted, Sonoma is not the most exciting OS update for graphics professionals ("Stunning new wallpapers!") but I have tested against nearly all my apps and Adobe PS AI INDD ACR are the only things that have issues so far.
Thank you everyone for posting here, I really appreciate your posts and good will.

Still nothing? I never thought that I will become a Xpress nostalgic.

Indesign 19.0.1
Mac OS Sonoma 14.1
Mac Mini 2018 Intel i7On selecting text, the UI will flash as I drag, will turn completely blank as I stop dragging and then stay blank until the mouse is released. Does the same with objects but turns blank and stays blank until the mouse is released, whether dragging or not. Have the same issue on dragging out the guides zero point. Turning off the rulers seems to solve the problem, but that's not ideal.
I expect the UI to stay stable and viewable while working.

Like you this has been driving me crazy, to point I almost went back to indeed 2023 but as Ravi suggested I've just gone into Indesign preferences and switched to GPU mode and this has stopped this problem.

Does anyone know how to fix it? Since version 2023 (currently already updated to 19.0.1), every time you click on the desktop, or use the selection tool, this white screen bug occurs (only within InDesign). What can it be? I use M1, 8gb ram, MacMini with an LG TV/Monitor.

I am having the same issue.
However, there seems to be an odd workaround--If I (on macbook) open indesign without external monitors, the GPU support is enabled. This resolves the issue, even when later connecting external (non-HiDPI) monitors and closing the macbook.
Perhaps there could be an option to force GPU support until a neater solution can be found?

Just disabled the rulers and it does help while we wait on a better fix. Thanks everyone!

While holding down a left-click to select text or an image, the document completely goes to white out. This occurs regardless of Display setting; I've tried both Typical and High Quality. At the release of the mouse, the document is visible again. Pic is attached.
Also other strange behaviors, such as:
- A lag and spinning wheel for functions that are normally instant;
-System difficulty changing from one tool to another, even trying to go back to the basic pointer;
-Disappearing links - For example, when a document already exists with all the links operating perfectly, if I save it as a new document and make some changes to basic text without changing any of the links on the graphics and ads, some of the links (usually about 3) disappear in a random selection type of manner. I have to re-link and re-save then is seems to hold onto them.Running ID 19.0.1

Luckily using GPU worked for me as well (previously helped me fixing that also the suggestion of disabling rulers)

Has anyone updated to macOS 14.1.1 (that was released on Tuesday) checked to see if it fixed this bug? It seems that macOS update fixed a toolbar bug in Photoshop CC 2024 and Illustrator CC 2024.

Wow, this is incredible! Thank you, @Dave Schneider
I can't believe that we found a kind of solution in another forum and for me in is simple amazing how adobe was unable to provide a patch for this!
Now we should do is work without rules!Down the rules!!

I found a hint on another forum that was a helpful temp fix, disabling the rulers seems to reduce the pain. I have found nothing else that seemed to help fix the issue. -

Dave Schneider's recommendation of disabling the ruler worked for me as well

This Adobe website suggests this is also an Adobe issue: https://helpx.adobe.com/ca/indesign/using/gpu_performance.html
