2021 cannot create new document
I just updated from 2020 to 2021 version.
Now, when trying to create a new document, the dialogue works as expected but when clicking "erstellen" (create) nothing happens.
Even after restarting the whole system (Mac Catalina).
Fix is available in the latest update of InDesign.
Please update your copy of InDesign to the latest available update via CCD app.

I have a deadline in four hours and I cannot open a new document. Adobe has become a source of constant issues, so bad that I cannot do my daily job anymore.

I have the same problem today. What a bunch of amateurs to create a program that can't even create a new document.
I've now wasted an hour of my work time on this, upgraded to 16.4.3. It still doesn' t work.
And I had to create an account and agree to you terms and condition just to get some help for a service I pay for.You guys are VAMPIRES. You just suck as much as you can get; money, time, and energy. Can't wait until you go the same way as QuarkXpress.

HERE IS A FIX: Open an existing document. Once the document is open, go to
EDIT-->PREFERENCES-->GENERAL and check the box that reads: Use "New Legacy" Document Dialog.
You won't have that problem again.

I could not get anything but a black screen (and apparently an invisible dialog or alert).
I use a MacBook Pro, MacOSX 10.16.7 ("Catalina").
Workaround:
Start InDesign, go to Window menu, choose Character (now, some things begin to appear on screen)
In upper right, change from Essentials to Printing and Proofing.Now I can create a new document or edit an existing one!
A few details: If I tried anything but Window menu, I could not get InDesign to quit; I got
"Cannot handle the request because a modal dialog or alert is active".Going into Library Preferences and Cache and clearing InDesign stuff gave no relief.
Doing Uninstall then Reinstall of InDesign 2021 did not appear to fix anything.

splash screen to create new document totally unresponsive / lets me set up size but won't create any new pages except from an existing template or save as from a different ad and go in and change dimensions under file > document set up
many other buggy problems since updated to 16.1 just recently
catalina 10.15.7

yes...by this time this problem should have been solved
i installed it today , i tried to start my work but i was unable to create a new document. i have also attached a ss of the screen. after i click on create a blank screen shows up and then nothing happens -

I have that issue and reported as well. I noticed that if you press command-N to open the document setup dialog again, the document window for the previously created missing document will appear.

@amaarora Actually the new document gets created but stays stuck behind the start-screen. Since this issue is happening from moment 1 of version 16, it should be solved by now!

I have the same problem - Create New Document insert the dimensions and no of pages I want and then back to blank screen. Essentially Adobe your users who have this problem cannot use Indesign to create new work which renders your software.. what is the word.. oh yes.. USELESS !!!! and this is not just fun - this is my job!!! Please fix this ...!!

I have the same issue. I select a pre-designed document temple I created, when I go to select it and hit Create, the Indesign menu just closed and a new page does not pop. Get your **** together Indd! Fix this Bug!

I have the same problem: after one or two new documents, it becomes impossible to create a new one.
The only way is to delete all InDesign settings in AppData\Local and AppData\Roaming, which means that you systematically loose all your settings.
Please solve urgently this bug!!! -

I have uninstalled InDesign 2021 and reinstalled and still cannot create new document. I can use an existing document, change the document setup, and rename. I hope you work this bug out soon.
