The fix is now available in the Beta build of InDesign – InDesign 15.1.1
We will be rolling out the public hotfix release soon after a round of validations are completed.

Please download the latest beta build from the Downloads section of InDesign Prerelease portal to test this.

1. Go to adobeprerelease.com
2. Log in with your Adobe Id.
3. Once logged in, search for “InDesign Prerelease” program in the list.
4. Click on the program to join the same.
5. You can download the latest available build (15.1.1.102) from “Builds and Plugins” section on the page.
6. The steps for installing the build can be found in the release notes.

We have identified the root cause of this issue and will be providing a beta build soon, followed by a hotfix release early next week.

We are investigating the issue and working on a fix for it.

In the interim, you can try changing the composer from World Ready composer to a different one.

Please can you confirm if the composer you are using is World ready composer?
To check the same:
1. Select the text range that has the text variable
2. Go to paragraph panel
3. In the panel menu check for the composer
