Lost all Save, Save As, Undo functionality while working.
To save my work, the only thing to do is to export as an IDML file. Force quitting to recover the file doesn't work. This has been happening to me since InDesign 5.5. I am currently using InDesign CC 2018. There are no particular steps, it happens at random. I can have several files open and it only happens to one file, or sometimes it's more than one file. It happens whether I'm working off of my Desktop or on our server.
As part of the investigation into the cause of this issue, we personally reached out to many of you over email. We have so far heard from only some of you.
Of the responses we have received, the conclusion we’ve come to is:
This issue was intermittent, happened once during the course of work but somehow got resolved and has not happened again. This issue can’t be reproduced now.
Over a period of time, this thread has not thrown any fresh clues on why this issue seems to occur randomly for some and then seems to resolve itself. So we’re closing this thread.
However, even though we’re closing this thread, if you again run into this issue any time on a consistent basis, please report it here on UserVoice (in a new thread) with supporting assets like:
A) a test file,
B) detailed steps to replicate the issue
C) any specific type of content that causes this
D) a screen recording, etc.
E) ID version, OS, etc.
(You can put the testing artifacts at a shareable location and share the link with us, reaching us at sharewithID@adobe.com OR rkiran@adobe.com.
This will help us immensely in determining a proper fix for this issue.
We seek your continued support to help improve InDesign. Let us do it together.

We are paying good money for this program, and we keep on losing work due to it glitching and this problem occurring. Any insight on how to fix this would save as a lot of time, as we already have lost a lot of time and money already.

Correction...Quark Express is still going! £349 all in! Adobe please fix this basic requirement as a matter of urgency - this is mission critical stuff. Not being able to save your work and loosing everything takes me back to a time even before the internet!!

Have used CS5 for years with hardly any glitches - just signed up to latest CC to save the embarrassment of asking clients to back save to IDML. Having used CC for the last couple of days I cannot see hardly any improvements that have been made across Ai, ID & PS in the last 10 years! - except why have you made these amazing programs appear like they have now been designed by Microsoft with too many Adobe help screens and opportunities to 'up sell' other Adobe products, software and even images (Isn't our 'beam me up' direct debit enough already). Having worked on a document for the last 10hrs in Indesign, the program will not save and instead takes me to a 'Print Booklet' page not helpful! - I can see that this issue has been 'live' for over 12months. What exactly are you doing with all of our money Adobe? Shame my Quark Express is now more than a bit out of date, because I feel like going back to something more stable - Any one out there want to give Adobe some competition - perhaps we can help crowd fund a new edition of Quark? I'm going to cancel my subs and going back to CS5 - CC is a complete waste of money and more importantly my time...

Same here. We are paying a lot of money for professional software to have this happen.

While closing a document, InDesign says "cannot Save" ,Also won't undo/redo. I keep hitting command + s while working but it just doesn't save or give an error message. If I go on the File menu all the save and save as commands are grayed out. If you close the file and click on the save button InDesign just gives a message that the file cannot be saved. I have to close the file without saving and redo all the work. Because InDesign doesn't give an error when pressing command + s I would do a lot of work under the impression everything gets saved but it doesn't and I keep losing a lot of work.

I'm also having this issue in spite of uninstalling my Indesign and updating and installing the newest version multiple times.

Ravi Kiran - Your note was written almost one year ago but the problem is not fixed yet. I recently purchased a new Mac Mini and Adobe upgraded InDesign CC to the newest version. The problem described by many in this group did not occur with the older version of InDesign. Can't Adobe's tech people trace the problem and fix it PRONTO?! You are collecting a monthly fee for a product that is not working properly. I suggest that Adobe cut the monthly fee at least in half until you have fixed this problem. As had been stated here, much time and money is lost by having to deal with this glitch.

I just lost 5 hours of work because of this issue (not the only program causing problems for me - spinning circle in photoshop whenever I try to paint a mask is driving me insane). What is going on?!

This has been a continuous issue, and it is incredibly inconvenient and wastes so much of my time.
Adobe—is there any way I can get a refund for the past couple of months since the program has not only wasted my time but affected my business as this issue directly relates to my output?

Been an issue for a while now, WTH?
Any way I can get a refund on the past couple of months since the program isn't working correctly, its wasted my time and there is no fix in sight?
Should I go back to CS5 and get rid of the CC product?
