Proportional Scaling Using Shift Button Not Working
In the 2017.1 release of InDesign, the ability to hold Shift and scale objects proportionally seems to have disappeared. I know for me this is a major functionality problem that is increasing the time I have to spend on current projects. I've checked support forums and others are encountering this problem, but I haven't yet seen a solution.
Hello All,
Thank you for your patience all this while; we really appreciate your support!
Our investigation suggests that one of common reasons for the problem is that certain software (mostly antivirus and other security applications) and browser extensions happen to enable “Secure Keyboard Entry” on Mac machines due to which some keys such as Shift key in this case do not perform the desired action in InDesign.
For now I request you to follow the below provided KB doc for the quick workaround of the problem.
https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/kb/features-do-not-work-keyboard-keys-mac.html
In the comments section many of the users have confirmed that disabling Webroot SecureAnywhere (a security app) has resolved the issue for them. Please note that, the problem may not be related to a particular software; there could be a different application or antivirus which might be causing the problem by enabling Secure Keyboard Entry on Mac.

I don't have antivirus software installed and I have this problem in InDesign. I have tons of work to do and this is NOT helping. Fix the problem within the application, don't give a workaround that doesn't apply to everyone.

Thank you! Webroot was installed on my computer by our IT company without me knowing. I quit the application, and InDesign is working again!

Same problem and it's doubling the time it takes for me to finish projects. PLEASE HELP! Latest OS, latest Adobe CC, trashed preferences, and I don't have any of the software known to cause conflicts.

Hi, I've just updated CC to the latest version, and my shift scaling is still not working. Very frustrating - what should my next steps be?
Thanks

OMG, frustrating. Closed all programs, DID NOT restart, then systematically opened InDesign and the programs that I normally have open, testing the shift/scale issue in between each and it's now working. Sheesh!

Any idea which software has "Secure Keyboard Entry"? I don't believe I have installed or updated any new software this week and the shift/scale issue is happening to me as well. Works fine in Photoshop and Illustrator. Even reverted back to 13.0 and didn't resolve it.

PS. Everyone assuming we have Macs. Nope.

This is also happening to me. No app relationship going on other than Adobe CC - please fix this glitch. I have been working in inDesign for weeks - in the past hours, this functionality (shift + drag) ceased to function.

Abhinav Kaushik - inadequate response, it's not a third party software problem, it's a CC glitch. fix it.

I was having this same problem just now and the issue was from Last Pass desktop app. Closed that and its working again. So everyone in hyesterics yelling at Adobe owes them an apology :)

New iMac machine. High Sierra 3.4 GHz Intel Core i5, 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4, Radeon Pro 570 4 GB. scale proportionately using shift key does not work. InDesign and Illustrator are very slow when using networked drives.

Antivirus: Webroot SecureAnyware is what disables this shortcut. Please replicate the issue yourself to resolve this glitch.

At my current job they have Webroot SecureAnywhere installed. It is not turned on on my Mac, but the icon is visible in the top bar in the Finder. Clicking on the Webroot icon and selecting "Pause Secure Keyboard Entry" made the shift key work properly in InDesign. I can now draw a straight line, maintain aspect ratios, and all that important stuff.
