Changing Paragraph Style in InCopy story does not prompt check-out dialog
InDesign 13.1 and 14.0 both exhibit this behavior.
If you have an InCopy story that is not checked out to you, and you attempt to change a paragraph or character style, the following happens:
- The style change does not take effect (this is correct)
- The newly-selected style appears to be selected in the paragraph style panel (incorrect)
- The "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" dialog does not appear. (incorrect)
- I expect the "You must check out the contents of this frame in order to make changes. Check out now?" dialog to appear.
There are a few other inconsistencies in these sort of actions as well -- with a checked-in story, most text editing options in the control panel are not available -- but changing the weight of a typeface is, although, like changing a paragraph style, it doesn't do anything. Typing a space produces the expected "Wanna check out? dialog; but typing a tab doesn't.

Make PDF Commenting Panel consistent and better designed
In one place in the panel, it's called Accept. In the flyout menu, it's called "Apply Auto Edit."
Why did we suddenly start calling the checkbox "Resolve"? I know that's the term that Acrobat uses, but it's confusing. Especially, when it's located alongside a word called "Accept." You're making users try to figure out new nomenclature when the old words worked just fine.
The icons on the left of the panel are way too subtle. In Acrobat, they are color coded. Replace text is blue. Strikethrough text is red. Sticky notes are yellow. Underlines are green. Why can't we have those same types of distinguishing colors in the PDF Comments pane.
They gray is WAY TOO subtle. Click don is white, hovered over is 11%, and all others are 5%. It's the same fusing hard to use UI of the comments pane in Acrobat.
Why did yo have to hide the checkmark (resolve) and trash can icons for all the comments except ones that are clicked on or hovered over? Why not just have them readily available. Again, this is copying the new Acrobat UI, which users hate.
The comments are a huge amount of wasted space, just like they are in Acrobat. If you really want to see how the panel should have been designed, take a look at DTP Tools Annotations plugin.
Comments are not sortable. Well, they sort, but only by page number.
IMO, this is still a beta feature and not ready for primetime. Especially disturbing is how it mimics the UI of Acrobat. It doesn't feel like InDesign. It takes up too much space, isn't full featured enough, and is difficult to use.

Paste where mouse is pointing
When not using paste-in-place, the item in the clipboard should paste where your mouse is currently sitting on the screen.
The would save a lot of time when you don't need an item pasted in the same spot but rather in a certain area.

Production notes
It would be great if I'd have the possibility to add notes to areas which are only internal. Often you have to make tweaks to get the result you want, but when you have to produce the next version, probably a year later, you don't know anymore, why you did what in this way. If I could add notes it would be very helpful.

Auto disable Preview when saving data merged file
When previewing a data merged file, you can't save it as you get an error message saying you need to disable the preview. Why can't it do it automatically, allowing you to save. It's slightly annoying!

Please bring back Mini Bridge
Mini Bridge was an awesome feature that I, as a graphic designer, miss greatly. It made laying out books that were hundreds of pages long with tons of pictures so much easier!! Please bring it back!

Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style
Possibility of defining several alternative Font Styles in one Character Style.
E.g. Character Style: Italic
Font Style: Regular Italic OR RegularItalic OR Italic OR ItalicRegular OR Italic RegularCurrently working with two families of fonts, one of which has italic defined as Italic and the other as Regular Italic, this is impossible. You have to define two character styles and search the whole text.

Indesign work files have huge file size
I am used to work with older versions of indesign, and sometimes quark. The file sizes I am used to is around 300 Mb at most. On the newer indesign I get file sizes up to almost 3 GB! All the images I use combined in the document is not even a quart of that size, and I do not embed any images. This takes up a lot of space and makes it hard to work in a network environment.

ID - Lock option - color fields / color groups
Hey there,
i wish i could lock color fields / color groups to prevent any resulting sources of error.
For example a fixed logo color which shouldn't be different.
Kind regards and big thanks!

Simplify hyperlink process
I've been using Indesign for over a decade but still can't fully understand the hyperlinking process. For example, what is the difference between New hyperlink destination and New hyperlink? (I've read about the difference but still find it kludgy.) What couldn't the process be as simple as when defining a paragraph/character/object style sheet in ID? Why can't I add simple page links to text (sometimes it works, other times it doesn't). Why does the hyperlink panel only provide a URL shortcut and not a simple Go to page #? And why can't I rename previously used hyperlinks by simply double clicking the name in the hyperlink panel?

Grouped items revert to previous layers when moved then ungrouped
InDesign CC 13.1, Windows 10
When I have a group that contains items from various layers, and I move this to a new layer, when I ungroup those items they revert back to their original layers.
I understand the concept that grouping remembers layers, and I like this feature! It used to bug me that grouping brought everything onto the same layer, sometimes altering the appearance. However this seems like an unintended consequence.
Say I have an item on Layer 1 and an item above it on Layer 2. Grouping these items makes them both "appear" to be on Layer 2, which is great. I then use the layers palette to move these items up to Layer 3. When I ungroup them, they revert to Layers 1 and 2.
This shouldn't happen, because I have moved them since I grouped them, which should override their previous layer designations.
Comments welcome if you feel like this would cause other issues!

enable paragraph style groups to be added to CC libraries
Can you create the ability to group paragraph styles in CC libraries as they can in an InDesign file or template.
The idea is to have various groups of styles that apply to different document types that we create, and be able to share these across users in the company.6 votes -
Please add the possibility to place multi-page ID and PDF files like multiple images with gridify function
When placing a multi-page InDesign or PDF file it should be possible to use the gridify function the same way as when users place multiple images.

pop-up change page of a linked pdf/indd file
please add simple pop-up option (like object layers) to change the showing page of a link (which is either pdf or indesign file). when my link is for example a pdf containing multiple pages, it's unnecessarily complicated to change the showing page to some another.
so please – right click > pop-up window > change page of link6 votes -
Save\Package Option
As I am finishing work on a new document, I would love a selection box for "Package Files" inside the Save Dialog or a Save\Package option. This would make it easy when saving at the end of the day if the files could be automatically packaged into one location if the selection box is checked.

inverted color option with objects
When I select a text I really like how something looks when it's inverted by having it selected. having a feature that allows you to draw a shape so it inverts colours underneath would be cool. I can't seem to figure out how to do this in any other way.

Allow character style to affect tab leaders
I applied a tab leader in my paragraph style in order to force dots to appear between my text and page number in my table of contents. However, there is no way to style those leaders. InDesign manual says: To change the font or other formatting of the tab leader, select the tab character in the text frame, and use the Character panel or Type menu to apply formatting.
This is fine except when you have a really long table of contents and want to format each tab leader. I chose a smaller dot by choosing a light font and had to manually change each line. A lot of work! Can we have a choice of style or character for the tab leader like we do for bullet point marker?

column lines
Auto column lines for text boxes.
Lines between columns, with varying widths, colours, styles (single, double etc, dots/dashes etc). Same options available for the outer box key line.. All can be individually adjusted, switched off etc.
And different colours for column backgrounds, with offsets. Like alternating fills work in tables, but in normal text boxes. Allow unique colours for each column fillplus transparency/mode options.

Similar to TOC, have InDesign remove forced returns (Shift+Enter) in a cross-reference.
If a referenced paragraph has a Shift+Return in it, it's present in the cross-reference. TOCs have an option to ignore them, and cross-references could as well.
