Group/Organize Parent Pages
It would be very helpful for larger documents if I had the ability to group/organize the parent pages in their panel. I am currently working on an urban planning document where each section of the master plan (parks, housing, wastewater, etc...) has a different colored footer and chapter page, so I have 8 different footer parent pages and 8 different chapter pages, on top of the 10 or so general layout parent pages I create for our urban planners to use as templates. Consequently, navigating the parents panel requires a LOT of scrolling. If I could just group all my footer parents in a folder and all my chapter parents in a folder, I could cut down the real estate they occupy in my panel.
I don't pretend to understand software development, but I suspect this would be a pretty straightforward feature to implement, right?

Set Solidity of Spot colors
We have HP Indigo's that can print white ink. For example, printing white ink on a golden paper, it looks great, and if you have a picture, just slab some white ink below it and it looks good.
However in InDesign, if you set the colors accordingly (Paper color to gold, and add a white spot color), and you enable overprint preview, the white ink just disappears. This means, we're desining with paper set to white and white ink set to Cyan to see what we're doing. Tbh we'd like to see what we'll eventually get.
We need the ability to set the Solidty of the spot colors, like Photoshop is able to since many many years (see screenshot, comparing the Spot color dialogue between InDesign and Photoshop [german version]). Also, we need the ability to export either a version with or without the paper color (with paper color simulated to show the customer how it'll look like, without for printing).
There are many printing systems out there that can do white ink and other ink with high solidity: HP Indigo, Xerox Iridesse, Ricoh, ... also, screen printing, and even certain metallic colors in offset printing!

Share for review for organisation
Compared to Adobe Illustrator, InDesign does not have the option for internal approval within the organization ("Everyone at your organization can comment").

Cloning à la Illustrator Repeat or Symbol Tool for x-up Printing?
I've quickly grown to love Illustrator's Repeat feature, especially the ability to edit any instance of the repeated object. A feature akin to this for InDesign, or a "Live Repeat"/"Clone" would be a massive improvement for x-up layout!

Fontmetrics/TextMetrics data to be included in Info panel
I would like these information to be available in info panel of Indesign. It really helps. Select a character and then it should show following information:
Script Alert

Point Size: 12.000 4.2864
Baseline: 12.138 4.3356936
Ascender: 8.736 3.1204992

Devnagri Script Numerals in Numbered Lists and Foot notes etc.... have been waiting for ages
It is very important and sometimes indispensable to have page numbers (auto) and Number list and Footnotes in Devnagri script numerals and not roman... but Indesign doesn't offer me any solution

Restore several links to a Library
Create a function to update the links in the Libraries in the same way as for a local folder.
I had to move my libraries to a new Cloud following a change of plan. All the links no longer work. Even if I give the path to a link, INDD isn't able to restore the other links in the same library as it can in a local folder. I have thousands of links to restore manually!1 vote -
AI-powered design assistance
To improve Adobe InDesign for <a href="https://www.cubix.co/mobile-app-development"> mobile app development </a> design, we could integrate AI-powered design assistance that suggests layout enhancements, color schemes, and typography adjustments in real-time, tailored specifically for mobile interfaces. Additionally, introducing robust real-time collaborative editing features would allow multiple designers and developers to work on the same project simultaneously with version control and live feedback options. Moreover, developing an advanced asset management system with cloud integration, AI-driven tagging, and easy retrieval of graphics, fonts, and templates would streamline the mobile app design process significantly.

Indesign CJK Version Request : Standard Vertical Roman Alignment
Please add the simple feature of standard vertical roman alignment in adobe indesign CJK version as well.
In all the other versions of Indesign, and also in other basic applications like the photoshop or illustrator, there is an option to vertically align roman alphabets. However, in the CJK version, the vertical writing tool only provides the option to typeset the roman alphabets and numbers in a 90 degree rotated way.
If I wanted to write them vertically without having to rotate it, I have to manually do so in Character settings, but that is not a good option since the vertical kerning setting would not be applied, and would be forced rotated. Please add the simple feature of standard vertical roman alignment in adobe indesign CJK version as well.

UX improvement: When changing color on selected Text Fields, Text Color should be changed over textfields background color
It happens so often that I select a textfield, quickly pick a color from the color swatches and the entire text field gets a background color - although I obviously wanted to change the text color.
I have to manually go in and switch from text field background color to font color. I think this could be avoided.1 vote -
Highlight Box Behind Text
This is so commonly used in design, that it even exists in Adobe Express, yet for some reason has never been introduced to InDesign. Instead we have had to create underlines and adjust them, which then needs to be adjusted every time font size is changed.
I imagine this is not a difficult thing to introduce, and it would be a huge help to so many people within publication design

Support ODT files
ODT files are used by open source software Libre Office who inherited from both Open Office and Neo Office. It's used by Microsoft users, Apple Users and Linux users. Since it's open source software, it's 100% free. It allows for the same sort of features that Microsoft does as much as Google Docs does similarly.
Google currently does support ODT files. (see Screenshot) Shouldn't Adobe follow suit and do the same? Every other program does, so why not Adobe?
InDesign needs to support ODT files for the following reasons:
1. LIbre Office is Free.Adobe costs a lot of money per year and not everyone gets Word or Microsoft office for free. There are Apple users which would make the majority of the population, I would htink considering macs are more stabele for Photoshop, etc. There are also Linux users who would have to purchase Microsoft Word.
Adobe supports other open source extensions on the rest of its software so the excuse that "It just is too hard" doesn't look like a good excuse.
It would widen the range of users who could use InDesign as there is no ceiling. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/16frwx8/15_million_downloads_of_libreoffice_76_two_weeks/
There is are according to that website 1.5 million downloads of only version 1. Consider how much that has spread since.
There is an argument about this a few years back as well on the forums.
https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/add-import-odt-file-support/td-p/8940485
The listed reason doesn't seem cogent from what I know of software engineering and considering Adobe does support open source in other products.
Unless you're getting 1 trillion dollars from Microsoft to not do it, it doesn't seem like a feasible business plan to block the path of ODT files and their importation if it would lead to a wider user base being able to access adobe products. Why make people pay for 2 programs? Why don't you want people to spend that sweet cash on Adobe and InDesign instead?
With the boom in the self publishing industry, I think making the ceiling lower and more accessible to Adobe products would be in your best interest over insisting that people use Word. Give Microsoft the competition they should have in the first place and make it a fair, non-collusion market. Shouldn't Adobe want a wider user base?

Preferences Search
It would be very handy if we could search the InDesign preferences. Sometimes it's not easy to remember which section a particular preference setting is under, so it would be great to be able to do a search for, say 'Default View', which is under 'Display Performance'.
Surely this wouldn't be too difficult a feature to bring into InDesign (and other Adobe apps)?

Overall project file contains different documents
It would be good to have the ability to combine several individual InDesign docs into one project file. So when the project is opened all docs are shown as separate tabs. Quark Express did this with 'Jackets' or something like that. This would tidy up job folders and maybe speed up the 'collect for output' stage if InDesign did them all at once rather than have to do individually with several fonts and images folders

Different layers for each page in a document
Each page in a document can have different layers. When producing artwork for personalised print items (like mailers) it would be good for each version (page) to have it's own variable layers to avoid having lots of layers that could lead to data being omitted if layer turned off

Add access to text inset function via right click
On a given shape, provide access to create text inset parameters via a right-click to the Text Frame Options menu box. Currently this access does not exist unless there is already text inside of the shape.
