Make it possible to (gradually) lock pages in the pages panel
That is a nice way to disinguish pages that are finished and pages that need work. An, off course, to prevent pages from changing.
I understand there are some challenges, like multipage stories and master items, but maybe the lock function should take that into account, a dialog that gives the user the choice: 'The pages you are going to lock contain parts of stories that are connected to unlocked pages. Do you want InDesign to split those stories? Or do you want a 'soft lock' that locks all positions, but allows text to reflow?'
And then: a fully locked page will have a black padlock icon, and a smart / soft locked page may have a gray padlock. Or something.

"automatic image connection refresh" routine in connection tab
Searching for several failing image connection to get all connections actual is time consuming.
By pointing to an entire volume - the herewith proposed idea of an "automatic image connection refresh" routine should be able to search an entire volume for "exact" hits - and refreshing them.

Style Description or Memo Field
When working with complex documents, it would be helpful to have a free text field for each paragraph and character style. I imagine using this field to describe how and when to use each style in the document. In many professional settings, this is usually done in a separate style guide document but that requires separate programs and windows to be open, where as this would allow the information to be presented and referenced as close as possible to where it is needed. In cases where a style guide exists, the field could be a page or paragraph reference back to that larger document.
I imagine the first 100 characters or so being presented in a tooltip when the user hovers over a style name in the panel and the full content shown when the edit style dialog is opened.

Copy and paste text formatting and shape style using keyboard shortcuts instead of the $%#!! eyedropper
The eyerdropper is a slow solution. Indesign should allow us to copy and paste text formatting and shape style using keyboard shortcuts instead. You select the frame (text/shape), press SHIFT+OPT+C to copy the formatting and then use SHIP+OPT+V to paste it. Much, much faster....

Would like to add: Automatically set the value of paragraph leading according to different situations.
Would like to add: Automatically set the value of paragraph leading according to different situations.
For example, A and B paragraph styles.
By default, B has paragraph margins set. But there are some cases where it doesn't need paragraph breaks.
For example, when there is A paragraph style in front of it, because A itself has paragraph spacing, the two together will be spaced very far apart.
The way I'm dealing with it now: create a new ‘B-none’ with no paragraph leading. But it's a lot of work and trouble. If you can add the option to set when B meets a certain style in front of the paragraph before the distance can be agreed upon, such as 0 or other good.
InDesign Example File is here:

import settings cross Windows/Mac
I have a Mac at my office and PC at home office, I have just exported the Mac Indd settings and wanted to import the same settings onto my PC, but it says Incompatible platform ....
We need to be able to sync all settings between Mac and PC - both the menu setup and custom Fine/Change queries, and also shortcuts if possible ..
The most easy way would be if it was synced in the cloud an I could choose if I wanted to sync the computer to the online settings

Word Import: local overrides filter
when importing a Word file with removing pragraph formats while keeping local overrides a FILTER would be great: which type of local override?
p.e. I'd use only italcs.
then allow these local overrides be formatted with a characeter format.Working with importing Word is a pain, causing lot of mistakes and even crushes InDesign. A filter like this might clean up imported data while keeing necessary formatting.

ChatGPT Integration in InDesign for Text Editing and Proofreading
Please add an option in InDesign to integrate text review using ChatGPT. Ideally, this would function as a standalone panel, where we could log in with our own ChatGPT account. Through this panel, we would be able to have the text checked either as a proofreader or as an editor in a special mode—for instance, if the text overflows, it could be shortened to fit the box or page. Similarly, it could generate titles based on the text.

Add book level option to Find/Replace
Add the option to search all documents within a book file when using find/replace. Currently, to find/replace in multiple files at once, you have to have them all open. This is inefficient if you have a huge number of files and need to make a change in all of them.

New Project Window, please sync with Main Window
I create a New Window for the project I'm working on, and place it on a second monitor. I do this to see the presentation mode while I edit. But when I move to new pages/spreads on the Main Window, this is not reflected in the New Window. That's not a big problem if I've moved one or two spreads. But if I have moved by a hundred pages on the Main Window, it takes a long time to move the New Window these 100 pages too.
It would be a really nice feature if InDesign had a Presentation Mode for 2nd Monitor that would stay in sync with the movement between pages on the Main Window. I'm surprised InDesign does not already have this feature.
Thank you for your time and consideration.

Variables with long definitions to wrap to next line
Currently, variables do not break across lines. I have documents with tables and variables. If the variable has a long definition, I have to shrink the font to get the text to fit in the cell when it could easily wrap to the next line. FrameMaker's variables have this capability. InDesign should be able to do the same. PLEASE!

Make Libraries Panel Drag & Drop When Adding
Hi There,
I only use libraries for one client but am quickly discovering it's not that intuitive. It's great that libraries now isn't the default but when you need it, why can't you drag everything into it?
Obvious examples...
- You can't drag colours
- You can't drag text styles (paragraph or character)And regarding text, if you drag a text box, dragging it back should add the textbox with text etc. If you drag a text style onto an existing text box, it should only apply the style etc.
Just let us add anything to the library via drag and drop - right?
Cheers, Ben

By clicking in a file that does not exists anymore, it vanishes from recent items.
It would be perfect if the Indesign home interface behaved like Photoshop's: by clicking on a file that does not exist anymore, it just vanishes from recent items, helping to keep less cluttered.

Support ODT files
ODT files are used by open source software Libre Office who inherited from both Open Office and Neo Office. It's used by Microsoft users, Apple Users and Linux users. Since it's open source software, it's 100% free. It allows for the same sort of features that Microsoft does as much as Google Docs does similarly.
Google currently does support ODT files. (see Screenshot) Shouldn't Adobe follow suit and do the same? Every other program does, so why not Adobe?
InDesign needs to support ODT files for the following reasons:
1. LIbre Office is Free.Adobe costs a lot of money per year and not everyone gets Word or Microsoft office for free. There are Apple users which would make the majority of the population, I would htink considering macs are more stabele for Photoshop, etc. There are also Linux users who would have to purchase Microsoft Word.
Adobe supports other open source extensions on the rest of its software so the excuse that "It just is too hard" doesn't look like a good excuse.
It would widen the range of users who could use InDesign as there is no ceiling. https://www.reddit.com/r/linux/comments/16frwx8/15_million_downloads_of_libreoffice_76_two_weeks/
There is are according to that website 1.5 million downloads of only version 1. Consider how much that has spread since.
There is an argument about this a few years back as well on the forums.
https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/add-import-odt-file-support/td-p/8940485
The listed reason doesn't seem cogent from what I know of software engineering and considering Adobe does support open source in other products.
Unless you're getting 1 trillion dollars from Microsoft to not do it, it doesn't seem like a feasible business plan to block the path of ODT files and their importation if it would lead to a wider user base being able to access adobe products. Why make people pay for 2 programs? Why don't you want people to spend that sweet cash on Adobe and InDesign instead?
With the boom in the self publishing industry, I think making the ceiling lower and more accessible to Adobe products would be in your best interest over insisting that people use Word. Give Microsoft the competition they should have in the first place and make it a fair, non-collusion market. Shouldn't Adobe want a wider user base?

set width of a real gap between columns in a table
Setting a column/cell stroke to "paper" does not make a real gap between columns, when the table is on a colored background.
Please add a "gap width between columns" to your table/cell formatting.

I need in InDesign these tools: 1. in the «Path» I need «Outline Stroke 2. “Perespective” tool 3. the new “Generate” like what in Illustrat
I do almost all design and drawings in the InDesign program, so I found these tools in Photoshop and Illustrator. It is nice and ok for me not to leave InDesign and do all the things I need for printing and layout.
I am using InDesign Eastern language. (The Generating, is still not in the Eastern Version!!).
