Note field with published files
In our company we create several versions of our brochures made in InDesign, based on the type of client and job. The title for the various versions needs to be identical (Design Brief from XXX) so it's time consuming to identify the correct file for a specific client. If we were able to add notes for ourselves for each file that would be helpful. Ideally these notes would be visible for us on the Publish Online Dashboard, visible right there with each of the titles of the published files.

Option to turn off auto-collapse of layers when switching between documents.
When switching between open indesign documents, the layers collapse automatically. Please give me an option to turn this feature off! If I have opened a layer, I want them to stay open until I have decided to have it otherwise.

Link OS Work Documents
Currently only supports linking to Excel docs for Tables which also loses all table formatting and Header ID. This feature is in need of an update overall and inclusion of the Mac programs would be very helpful.

Please make the reflect tool work the same way as in illustrator!
It works completely opposite of Illustrator which makes it super confusing if you're switching between them (i.e. to do the same transformation, you have to use a horizontal reflection in indesign and a vertical one in illustrator.) A preview like in illustrator would be great too.

Allow use of numerical font weights instead of labels
Please include an option to use font numerical weights in paragraph/character styles. Font weight labels are not standardized among fonts. A variant could be labelled Normal, Book, Regular, Roman, or any other label that the font foundry thought was a good idea at the time. That means in my character style menu, there are many different labels corresponding to the same weight.
If InDesign internally tracked its weights numerically, I wouldn't have to use a separate character style for different uses of Semibold just because one foundry calls it "Semi Bold" or "SemiBold" or "SemiBd". CSS has this feature even for static fonts, so I know more than just variable fonts support this sort of functionality: https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/CSS/Reference/Properties/font-weight
This functionality doesn't even need to be directly exposed to the user; rather it could be a change to how InDesign (and Illustrator) treats font variants internally. If you use "SemiBd" for a character style, it would simply use the corresponding numerical weight if that character style is being used with a different font that doesn't call that weight "SemiBd".

Allow “Use for Tagging Order in Tagged PDF” to be enabled by default in the Articles panel.
The Articles panel already includes the option “Use for Tagging Order in Tagged PDF,” but there does not appear to be a way to make this setting enabled by default for new documents.
For accessible PDF workflows, this creates repetitive manual work because the setting has to be turned on for each new file. It also increases the risk that the setting may be missed before exporting a tagged PDF.
Please add a preference or document default that allows users to keep “Use for Tagging Order in Tagged PDF” enabled automatically for new files.

Disable feature annoucements and in app ads
Please add a simple, consistent option to the preferences of all Adobe desktop apps to permanently disable notifications about additional features and ads within the desktop apps!
For paying Pro subscribers, it is more than unprofessional to be annoyed by unwanted pop-ups and notifications while working!
In my opinion, subscribing to the newsletter or getting updates about new features on the home screen is enough to stay up to date.

"Print Booklet" needs option to export to pdf instead of just postscript
Print designers need the option to export as print spreads, which is currently only available as a postscript file. Adobe's distiller is no longer up to the task of easily converting files to pdf, plus it's an extra step that should be built in natively to InDesign. Yes, many printers do this after receiving your file but some print shops ask for print spreads to be delivered to them. This should have been baked into a print layout program from the beginning.

Split “Hyphenate Across Columns” into Separate Options
Please split the current Hyphenate Across Columns option into separate settings:
- Hyphenate Across Columns
- Hyphenate Across Text Frames
- Hyphenate Across Pages
- Hyphenate Across SpreadsThese are different typographic cases. In many layouts, hyphenation only needs to be prevented across spreads, sometimes across pages, while it should remain allowed across columns and text frames.

Split Hyphenate Capitalized Words into Two Separate Options
Please split the current Hyphenate Capitalized Words option into two separate settings:
- Hyphenate ALL-CAPS words
- Hyphenate Words Beginning with a Capital LetterThese are different typographic cases. Acronyms and all-caps abbreviations often should not be hyphenated, while proper names or capitalized words in titles may need normal hyphenation.

technology
I would like to suggest integrating generative AI testing tools capabilities into InDesign to enhance automation and smart workflow optimization. By leveraging AI-driven intelligence, InDesign could automatically analyze document layouts, detect design inconsistencies, suggest formatting improvements, and even generate templates based on user behavior or uploaded samples.
This would significantly reduce manual effort, improve design accuracy, and streamline repetitive publishing tasks. Integrating AI-powered automation similar to generative AI testing tools could make InDesign more adaptive, intelligent, and efficient for modern content creators and production teams.

Reorganise the SWATCHES WINDOW to be able to see ALL colour values
Many os us (designers) don't have a huge screen to be able to spread all windows/tools allover thus, my request is regarding the way the colours names are displayed in the swatches window. I can’t see all values!!! (check attached image)
Even using the "small list view", all values can't been seen (this is what I see now: C=30 M=60 Y=4...) unless the swatches window is really wide... using too much space out of my screen. (check attached image)
Maybe a quick solution could be using C30 M60 Y40 K10 instead of C=30 M=60 Y=40 K=10
There are also many space “not used”, but still the total full colour value can’t be seen. (check attached image)

Increase bounding box line thickness via Preferences > User Interface Scaling > Anchor Points, Handle, and Bounding Box Display Size
I would like the option in Preferences > User Interface Scaling > Anchor Points, Handle, and Bounding Box Display Size to be able to thicken the bounding box lines more. The Anchor Points and Handle are plenty big even with low scaling, but even with large scaling, the lines don't get thick enough for me to see well on my high-res display. Thanks for considering.

Better printing options
Since Publisher is being discontinued by microsoft I have switched to indesign looking for a replacement. I am loving many of the features but it is VERY difficult to print from indesign myself. I literally have to click into 3 windows and a separate drop-down to make sure my files are printing the right direction, on the right size paper, and if I need a flip, flipping the right direction. Also, There is no preview option, I especially miss the preview option in publisher where I can lower the opacity and see what the front and back flipped pages will look like together. I know this is more geared toward professional uses that are going to be sent out to a printing service, but having some of those features would be phenominal.
Oh, also, being able to make the page size you want and then just saying, hey, print 10 of these to a page or whatever. because Step and repeat is fun, but would be great if I didn't have to actually think about any of that.Since Publisher is being discontinued by microsoft I have switched to indesign looking for a replacement. "Preview" checkbox selected by default in ALL dialog boxes
Please make it to where the "Preview" checkbox starts out checked by default.
OR: why not get rid of the box altogether.
We definitely want to preview the changes we're making w/o having to check an extra box every time.

A context-sensitive search function for Paragraph Styles
When all I need to see is one instance of a style, with no particular text string specified, It would be great to be able to right-click on a paragraph style in the style menu and simply choose "Find Style" rather than having to open the FIND/CHANGE menu, clear it of any previous entries, and fill in all the new parameters before I can make that one simple search.
EXAMPLE: My client composes her business books in Word and often uses up to nine or 10 "Headings." I just want to see an instance of them so I can get an idea of their appearance and a sense of how they've been used. It is a hassle to go back and forth to the FIND/CHANGE dialogue for every single "heading" style used when all I want is a quick look. It would be much easier just to right-click on a style in the paragraph palette, fully understanding it has limitations and is mainly just for looking, not changing, etc.
If I only had one or two instances like this in the document, it wouldn't be so bad, but with a book-length business book with many headings, it is cumbersome and a little maddening to have to keep going back and forth with the FIND/CHANGE menu.
