Please make it for ChromeOS
The only thing I still use computers for is mild browsing when I need a larger screen than my phone, and creating a program once a year for a convention. I don't want to invest $600+ in a laptop just to use InDesign when my Chromebook is more than enough for everything else. Please make it accessible either online or for ChromeOS. It's long overdue.

Review pins hard to spot
I struggle finding the pins associated to the comments in my designs.
When working with huge very colorfull and image rich brochures the marked pin is very difficult to see a lot of times. Its really frutrating.
I have two suggestions that would fix this problem.
Don't zoom out the view by default when you click on a comment. This would solve my problem, as I would zoom in close on my page and then click the comment. But now it zooms out the view when I click on a comment.
A quick animated arrow that points to the relevant pin and goes away after 0.5 sec. or less.
Thanks. I can't do without the review-tool. Its awesome that you made it.

Create a toggle switch between alternating fills
It would be a simple addition to create a toggle switch to swap alternating fills for columns and tables. This would save me a fair bit of time when editing many tables, please refer to the attached screengrab!

Allow GREP functions embedded in Paragraph Styles to 'soft' replace text
GREP functions in paragraph styles are powerful and let you find and style text automatically - but they don't let you stylistically 'replace' it. It would be very helpful for example to replace 'and' in Title Style to '&' or to add custom dingbats and company logos in place of 'company name'.

Add "redefine style" button
I, and probably many other users, often use the "redefine style" button in the various style windows (mainly paragraph and object styles, but also character style etc.).
This is a very visual-centered iterative process, with a lot of tweaking, refining and tweaking again. And the "redefine style" is a key component in that process.
It should be reduced to a single click of a button, instead of right-clicking and choosing it from the menu - just as "clear overrides" has a button of it's own.
I've added the current paragraph stye menu, and an updated one with the dedicated "redefine stye" button!
Thank you :)

Option to lengthen the "Set Tab Order" modal box
Setting up tabs in InDesign is almost perfect. The ability to lengthen the "Set Tab Order" modal box would be immensely helpful. When you have over 100 tabbed items or even 20 items, the ability to quickly order them without having to continuously scroll up/down would be a game changer. (MacOS)

Use cursor scroll to zoom in/out of Adobe Indesign
It is very inconvenient to not be able to use the scroll on the cursor to zoom in/out on Indesign. Especially when you go from using it in Photoshop and Illustrator, right to Indesign.

sidebar right not scrollable - Bedienfelder rechts nicht scrollbar
Die Bedienfelder auf der rechten Seite können nicht mit dem Mausrad hoch und runter gefahren werden. ich muss immer in den Balken klicken und kann nicht mit dem Mausrad scrollen.
The panels on the right cannot be scrolled up and down with the mouse wheel. I always have to click in the bar and can't scroll with the mouse wheel.

Make Table of Contents menu robust and intuitive
Make Table of Contents intuitive. It's a powerful tool, and yet difficult to set up even for an experienced user. The navigate the setup menu is static but closes every time. The explanations are poor, and impossible to navigate without watching a bunch of tutorials (and the user manual is not helpful either). Because the layout formating is done in paragraph styles it's difficult to know what and where to change to get a specific result. This software is supposed to make creating a long document easy and yet formatting a TOC requires so much pre-knowledge without any directions in the menu on where to find that info. A menu window instead of a pop-up would help, with more context text to guide a user towards the proper places to set up formatting.

The book workflow is unimaginably bad, and it's because of how styles are managed
After trying out the book workflow for 6 months, designing 3 books with it -
I've concluded that it's a completely broken feature, that makes my work 160% more time consuming.I'm literally in the process of moving all documents of a current book I'm working on into a single document, because it became so frustrating.
So the main problem (among many others), which has already been posted here and seemingly ignored - is the entire way that styles and parent (master) pages are managed in the book workflow.
My workflow, and I can't imagine it being that different for other designers, is as follows:
I create a book with let say five documents in it, each representing a chapter or whatever. I then proceed to work on each of these documents, and as the design process advances, I create more and more styles - object, paragraph, character etc.And to make sure everything is synchronized, I make sure that the document I'm currently working on is the style source. Whenever I move on to a different document - I synchronize the book, move to the other document, make it the style source and then I keep on working.
At first I didn't see a flaw in that workflow. But things get very messy very quickly. After working on a book for while, you start to rethink your styles, the logic behind them, the way they're organized and grouped together. And then you start deleting styles, and changing names, and grouping them.
But the next time you synchronize the book, all the changes are ACCUMULATED rather than SYNCHRONIZED. That is, my documents become a dumpster for every style and parent page that I ever used.
(as can be seen in the screenshot attached)Getting them in order is painstaking, and the fact that parent pages can't be grouped together - just adds to the mess.
There should be a better way to do this. And there is.
Styles should be on the book level. Simple as that.
And a user that feels like he really could use document-level style and parent pages - grouping styles by the document name should suffice.I can't imagine this being SO difficult for the indesign team for it to not be a viable solution.
InDesign is a software aimed for professionals, and it simply isn't robust enough right now. Many crucial features are missing and have been requested for such a long time - whether they're at the core of book design, or whether they're simply needed for effective editing and designing.I REALLY hope to see a major update tacking the book workflow, as it's much needed, but sadly unusable.

hyperlink destination
There should be a panel where I can see all of the hyperlink destinations I've created. And they should be clickable to test whether they are still working properly. Hyperlinks show up in the hyperlinks panel, but in-document destinations (used for cross references) cannot be tested without exporting to a test document. Nor can I see a list of them outside the drop-down within the xrefs panel.

Frame fitting option auto-fit image to a percentage
It would be helpful when using an Object Style that uses the frame-fitting option to include a percentage value, so for instance "place image proportionally at 100%"

Data Merge for spreads
it should be possible to export Data Merge directly to PDF as spread. So you don't have to create an InDesign-File first or edit your InDesign-File to generate an single page file.

Scrubby Sliders for Everything Like Photoshop
In Photoshop, every scalable feature (opacity, text size, feather radius, etc) is a slider if you click and drag on the name of the adjustment. This is particularly useful for (large) font size. In Photoshop, you can live preview your text size by sliding, while InDesign you have to either arrow key or type numbers to preview. At the very least, make the font size drop down go above 72 pt like Figma!

Select plug-in presets on start-up
It would be so great if there was a way to choose a working environment at the start of InDesign. We use many different plug-ins for different clients. These cannot and must not be mixed. So it is very difficult to always copy the plug-ins out of the folder first and the ones needed for the client into it. If I have to edit a document for another client, I first have to close InDesign, swap the plug-ins and start again. With many different clients, this is very time-consuming. It would be better if you could save these different settings and plug-ins as a preset and be asked which preset you want to continue working with when you start InDesign. Many greetings
