A archive/backup save feature
I recently was working on a highly important document. InDesign crashed AT THE SAME TIME as it was in the process of saving the file. I do regular saves, but because of how it crashed I couldn't revert to an earlier saved version of my file. My new workflow is to regularly save my work and I use sequential numbers e.g. filename-v01, filenam- v02. I also sometimes will use save as and create a new file called filename-backup and then I will have to do another save as to revert the document back to filename.indd. What would suit my workflow…

Mimic Text Box
For Example: If you have a list of people and you create a text box for each person that has a number in the text box.
Further in the document you would have a map that also has the numbers showing which person is situated where.
What would be very helpful is to have those 2 numbers (1 and 1, 2 and 2, etc.) be able to auto update the other.
So when someone is removed from the list, the person numbered 10 originally now becomes 9, which also auto updates on the map

Merge mulitple pages together to create one page. Clients design each panel as the same size rather than having a short fold in panel
Would like to be able to combine pages into one page. Clients are sending files (such as a 3 fold brochure) where each panel is the same size, not taking into account that the fold-in panel should be shorter. Seems difficult to make a shorter page as the page seems to be off and its not an easy fix.

Open pages of a pdf file in a single InDesign file
I always face this problem where I need to open a single page of a pdf. file to do amendment. It’s difficulty when my client doesn’t have the working file (indd). I hope adobe is allowing me to open all pages of a pdf. file in a single InDesign.

Native AI support.
Using links within AI to keep source files small is useless if INDD is a part of the workflow because INDD will not place AI files unless PDF compatibility is turned on. Turning on PDF compatibility in AI when saving embeds all links so linking files instead of embedding them makes no difference.
Please make INDD able to place AI files that have not been saved with PDF compatibility turned on.

Condition Sets: Show overrides when the set has a +
In every other panel, when there is a style override, resulting in a + symbol, if you hover over the symbol, it will tell you specifically what the overrides are. For example, a different type size, or font family or leading or something along those lines.
But in the Condition Sets dropdown, all you get is that there are overrides. And you can either clear them or redefine the set. But if I choose to clear the overrides, I have no way of knowing what the result will be.

Restore the page overlay display in the print dialog.
I previous version of InDesign and the initial releases of InDesign 2017, you could see quite clearly what would print on the selected sheet size. In the latest update as of Aug 2017, if I change a sheet from letter to legal that has been printed previously, letter is still selected in the dialog, but due to the preview sheet being legal and cannot see that there is a size mismatch without going through the individual dialogs. For reference, the portion of the document that would not be within the printable region showed as a different shade of grey, whereas…

When you highlight text - then select something else - it would be really cool if the same text was selected when you went back to it
When you highlight a block of text - then select a different element - it would be really cool if the text was highlighted when you went back to the text box and selected it.

Adobe, Don't Leave InCopy Behind: AI Development Must Prioritize Editorial Workflows, Not Just InDesign.
InCopy should not be left behind in Adobe's AI development roadmap.
It is difficult to understand why Adobe is prioritizing AI-based Text Generation tools in InDesign while InCopy, the application specifically designed for collaborative writing and text editing in professional editorial workflows, remains without these features.
InDesign is the layout tool. InCopy is the editorial writing tool. AI development should reflect this fundamental distinction.
Adobe should prioritize AI integration in InCopy, including text generation, editing, copyfitting, headline generation, and future AI-powered journalism tools.

Cancel required color in Character Style Options > Character Color > Tint ...
Allow users to specify a color shade (and other options) without having to select a color. This would make the character style much more versatile; a single character style could be used for paragraph styles with any color, such as bullet points in different colors depending on the brand.

option to start a certain paragraph, for example chapter title, at a specific page
When creating a lay-out file with text for an illustrated book that covers all available pages: it would be nice to tell the title of chapter two, to start at page 13 for example and the title of chapter 3 to start at 21 and so on. In that way you can instantly see how much blank space can be filled with images and you won't have to deal with constantly reflowing of the entire text. Fonts Syncing from Adobe Fonts prevents any other background tasks and NEVER finishes.
It's been half a dozen releases since Adobe Fonts took over syncing everything. It's insane.

"Clear All Alerts" in Background Tasks
The fact that you cannot clear background tasks in bulk by selecting multiple, or clear all is a waste of time and a huge oversight.

Changed .ai with different layers, option ‘apply to all’ in pop-up-window
When I import .ai files and work on them, add layers and afterwards have to update the files I get an error message. And have to hit return any times the file is imported in my ID file.
It would be helpful if I could check 'apply to all' and hit return only once.1 vote -
Option to hide/block blue notifications bar in computer labs
I teach InDesign at the college level in a lab with 24 Macs all running the latest version. These lab computers are managed by the college, yet all students each and every day are suggested to try out the beta build of InDesign with AI assistant. Since these are public, managed computers there is no way for them to try this version out. As an instructor I would love the option to hide/disable these notifications as they literally get in the way of instruction. Thanks for listening!

Combine minimized tablets in panelgrid
A number of palettes (like glyphs) ar easy to use as pop-up, do your thing, and close again. It would be nice to be able to minimize palettes like in my simplified mockup screen dump but then also being able to put them in the palletgrid so they become part of all tools..

Highlight Text Effect
Maybe this could be an extension of the paragraph shading options, but it'd be great to have a highlight text option that lets you adjust offsets like paragraph shading, except it goes to the end of each line and stops there vs shading the whole paragraph based on the longest line. Similar to the "text background" effect in Canva. That highlighted look is very popular now.
Right now I'm achieving this by either making thick underlines with negative offsets and having to add spaces at the beginning and end of each line, or I have to make separate text boxes…

j'aimerai bien pouvoir copier les effets (FX) dans indesign, comme sur photoshop pour pouvoir appliquer un même effet à d'autres blocs texte ou image. l'utilisation de la pipette nécessite d' avoir à changer sans arrêt les options de celle-ci, ce n'est pas franchement pratique. De plus un document comportant plusieurs pages ils vous faut retrouver la page ou l'effet est appliqué pour l'appliqué sur une autre. Alors que si l'effet était comme dans photoshop on pourrait facilement le copier coller
