Save Preferences
For about 14/15 years I never had to reset preferences in InDesign.
Since CC2017 it's more or less once a week.
Colors disappearing.. panels blind or empty.. tools not working.. font now showing.
Panels self increasing size...
But it seems we have to deal with it, so we probably need a way to SAVE PREFERENCES.
Save preferences in a moment everything work fine.. and restore it when (after just few days) nothing works anymore.
Every time people have to reset preferences, they have to restore everything. UI colors, workspace, Application Frame (that mac users normally never use) Old Dialog way (the new are unusable and way too slow).
Too many things to restore and too often.

I concur with the comment saying we need a robust system for syncing our preferences and presets between devices! Let me sync my settings between my laptop and my desktop.

Same here. Panels not loading or unable to open them at program start. Restart required. Getting a bit tired of this. This has been going on for years now, same accounts for Photoshop / Illustrator BTW.
TIP: delete InDesign caches first, this often solves many problems.
On Mac delete them here:
User/Library/Caches/
Delete these folders:
1) Adobe Indesign
2) com.adobe.InDesignWhen this doesn't work then delete preferences, setup InDesign again (yes, sigh, again!). Quit InDesign and copy the Preferences folder to a different location. Find ID preferences here:
User/Library/Preferences/Adobe InDesign/Version XX — in my case Version 14
When InDesign goes awry again (yes, again) just quit and copy the preferences folder you saved back to the system preferences folder, overwrite existing ID prefs folder and be done. For a while at least. This saves you some time setting up the whole application again.

This has been irritating us for years - it's not a new problem with CC2017. However, it seems to be fixed with CC2019 for us. We have been using it for a couple of weeks without it happening.

In addition to this: we need a robust system for syncing our preferences and presets between devices.

until this is resolved, would this solution work? http://in-tools.com/article/scripts-blog/preference-manager-script/

The work of maintenance to support a designer is being done. Restoration of the environment of the designer is very important work by the operational part. Building of the environment that you can restore more easily is expected.

Many Japanese users have complained about this, too.
All users customize their preferences. After delete preference files is done, our customized preferences also disappear (it returns to the default setting). Whenever we do delete preference files, we have to recover them one by one, again, and again, and again.... This recovery work is a huge problem. This extra workflow wastes a lot of our times always. I request new feature that restores the user’s customize preferences at the same time as delete preference files.Japanese translation:
