Regarding the InDesign file font pointing confusion: Wish Adobe would provide 3 options.
Regarding the InDesign file font pointing confusion:
Wish Adobe would provide 3 options.
I receive InDesign files from a lot of different people when I'm actually working.
Although they are all packaged and given to me later, they also copy all the fonts into the Documents Fonts directory.
However, when I open them, some of the fonts in the files do not point to Documents Fonts, but to the “C:windows\fonts” directory, and the fonts have changed and become different from the previous one, and sometimes they are not even prompted. Some of the fonts I have on my computer may…

Non-Linear History and Undos - By page
Much like paste, paste into, paste in place, undos should be able to have some added features. Photoshop has non-linear history, which feels confusing to undo a brush from 10 steps ago. However, InDesign would greatly benefit from current page specific history, undos, searching, text, edits etc.
An example, my workflow for placing graphics and prepping captions in a document, is to do one task at a time page by page. I also use transform again individually to apply things like rotation to existing graphics, or frame fitting if I'm placing a graphic somewhere. When placing a graphic into an…

InDesign Parent Pages panel. Ordering Parent page designs by dragging them up or down. Needs an insert indicator to verify placement.
I have encountered this issue frequently. When I need to reorder a Parent design to change its list order it is imprecise as to whether I am placing the item (over or under) another Parent design or (on top of.) In many cases you only need to reorder an item, without inadvertently embedding one Parent on another. There should be an indication such as a placement line or arrow to confirm a safe repositioning of the item.

reset cell shading
It would be helpful to be able to reset the alternating row/column shading. Similar to the way numbering can be reset in paragraph styles.
This way people can build in subhead rows or add more complex styling.

Paragraph Styles / shading transparency options
I would love to see the paragraph styles / shading have transparency options (multiply, darken, etc.)

Repair Print Booklet please
Anyone finding this post will have the same question: why is it so hard to create an imposed .pdf in InDesign? Is it due to license wars?
I know, there is a workaround via .ps and distiller, but this fails, since there is no flexible generic ppd available. If your home printer only prints A4, you are not able to create an A3 .pdf to print at a printshop. Insane.
Please, Adobe, bring (back) this functionality to create imposed .pdf's at any size with the Print Booklet function, even when no printer is available.

Preference to Disable the Contextual Menues (annoying pop ups), legg issue
- Preference to DISABLE the Contextual Menues! Pros don’t need spam like tutorials poppig up while working, it’s annoying and awful disturb the concentration while the work, disturb also the speed of the program. Please.
- Option (On-Off) to disable Ai function, which is probably a big part of the reason for the program leggs. There are still a lot of people which don’t need it and don’t want to get it like spam.
- InDesign never legged so hard as do it now. Please fix it.

Make the tools in the toolbox customizable so we can rearrange the tool layout
Make the tools in the toolbox customizable so we can rearrange the tool layout like you can in Photoshop. I'd like to simply be able to arrange the tools in a way that benefits my workflow and hide some tools I rarely (or never) use. This is basic functionality, such an obvious feature — and it's so annoying that it is not available.

Scaling Text in InDesign
I would like to suggest an improvement to how InDesign handles text scaling. Currently, when I scale an object containing text, the visual size of the text changes, but InDesign still shows the original size in the text panel, displayed in parentheses. This forces users to go through several complicated steps to make the scaled text size permanent without showing the parentheses.
It would be incredibly useful if Adobe could implement a simple feature where the scaled text size is automatically updated to a permanent size, without needing to create outlines or perform manual recalculations. This would streamline workflows and…

Search features for Paragrapch and Character Style Sheets
I work with very large publications, and sometimes will get them from a previous designer. When making design changes, it's essential to be able to find the old styles throughout the book to make adjustments instead of deleting an entire style and have it reflow everything.

Ability to set a layer to high res preview permanently
It would be great to be able to set a layer to high res preview permanently. So that everytime you opened a document it remembered that Layer 2 for example needs to be high res preview.
Reason for this: I work with a lot of dies in packaging, and when I link to them they always lose the high res view, but I need the high res view for the die so I can precisely design.
Yes, I'm aware I can copy and paste the die from illustrator into InDesign, but when you are working with numerous files, it's best…

Calendar Wizard!
So this is a cry for help! I've been using the Calendar Wizard script but when I go to populate the calendar, I'm unable to access some controls because the window that pops up does not give me access to the options at the bottom (save, etc). I can expand the screen to full-size and the options do not appear. I even had my computer service remote-in and look and they said it's likely a programming error. Can anyone help?
This last time I used it, I manually added 4 custom calendars and the window re-tiled to the right and…

Update Hyperlinks after destination file rename
Hi there and thanks for this wonderful tool!
Usually I always find a way to do what I want thanks to ExtendScript which is just amazing.
However in this case it seems that it's not possible (https://community.adobe.com/t5/indesign-discussions/target-the-source-hyperlink-destination-document-of-an-hyperlinks/m-p/11498930)
I am now working on a very long document that we split in three .indd files and have dozens of hyperlinks in each file to jump from one file to another.
Let's say they are called:
P_EN_v1.0.indd Q_EN_v1.0.indd R_EN_v1.0.indd
If we find things to update in those files then we would like to share new versions with attendants to our event…

Make Edit Original available with Adobe Experience Manager
Hello, we recently implemented Adobe Experience Manager as our DAM and since then we lost the EDIT ORIGINAL option for our links in InDesign which is a heavily used feature for us given that some of our designers are spending a lot more time having to open different tools to edit each link. Anyway we can get that back?

Performance on Apple Silicon
I’m writing to report ongoing performance issues in Adobe InDesign that the latest update unfortunately hasn’t resolved.
On my Apple Silicon Mac Studio (M2 chip, 64 GB RAM, 2 TB SSD) running macOS Sonoma 15.1.1 (24B91), even simple tasks like switching between a text box (T) and an object (V) have a noticeable delay of about half a second. This was never an issue on my older Intel-based MacBook Pro with Adobe CS, and it’s making normal daily work in InDesign frustratingly slow.
For comparison, Illustrator performs flawlessly, with instant responses as expected, making the difference between the two apps…
