1. Find Format within Styles Panel

   I'm a book designer using many different styles, usually ported in with XML. It would be great to embed a pull-down option for right clicking on any style for some kind of "find next" feature, where you can quickly toggle to the next instance of each style without pulling open the Find/Change dialogue. This would help me to quickly set parameters for undefined styles that come in from my XML.

4. Multiple strokes like Illustrator has

   InDesign should have the ability to have more than one stroke on an object the way that Illustrator does. I've wanted this multiple times and now it's come up again with a design that uses a filled frame behind a headline and also a stroke inside the bounding box of the filled frame. To make this design efficient in production, the ideal is for this to be one object with the type in the center, the stroke a controlled distance away and another stroke that is the same color as the fill outside the first stroke. See attached screen shot. Combine this object with the Auto Size feature for a text frame, and you have an object that can be quickly repurposed with different text while automatically maintaining the proper distances between type and first stroke and between the stroke and the outside of the frame. Currently it has to be two objects and if the type needs more that one line, the height of the background frame has to be adjusted manually.

   In Illustrator you use the Appearance panel to keep adding strokes and change characteristics. In this design it's super easy to align the first stroke to the inside and the second stroke to the outside.

   Another solution is to add a characteristic to stroke alignment: align to inside with an offset or in this case you'd call it an inset.

5. Export PDF to Google Drive (Cloud)

   Please make it possible to export a PDF directly from InDesign to Google Drive (see Adobe Spark)

   Currently this is only possible if you use Google Drive File Stream. (Desktop App)

6. Review Online: Changes on comments

   When you change text that has been highlighted it jumps down to Unresolved. I constantly have to find my way back to the comment section I was on. Very annoying.

   Also, if I hit command-V when i have text in comment highlighted it suddenly changes the filter to just "Resolved"

   Would like the find/replace font also store/show the actual filename for the font, not just the display version: I have recently received a new (Windows) computer at work, it has has some issues, and I didn't copy over all of the installed fonts on the previous computer, as I probably did not need many of them anymore. I work for a printing company that does updates and new set ups, so use a lot of fonts from a lot of sources. It is a real time user to find the correct font file for many jobs, given Windows' naming conventions for fonts. If InDesign, and other apps that set type, could store the actual filename of the fonts used in the file, as well as it's display name, then finding the font would be more certain and quick. Currently the filename only shows up if the font is already installed.

8. Option to export to multiple places

   I'd love to be able to chose multiple locations for a file to be exported to. It could work similarly to the export options in Lightroom Classic or the way you can export artboards or assets in Illustrator.

   I frequently have to export a file in more than one format and in more than one place, so this would save me the time it takes and the brain spaces required for me to remember to do it.

9. Batch upload Share for Review

   Please allow batch/multiple document upload for the Share for Review feature. At present it is buggy, crashes and the invidual document sharing method slows down the workflow. Having a single bulk upload process would make this feature indespensible.

10. Make Indesign UI bigger

    People have been complaining for years about Indesign's hard to see UI and the inability to make adequate changes. Why is it 2020, and this issue is still unresolved? I shouldn't have to change my Windows UI to make it better, which by the way it doesn't. Attached pic of my display at the recommend UI setting of 250% on a 15 inch screen.

11. Background Packaging

    It would be amazing if when you are packaging a document, the packaging would go on in the background (like when you export as a PDF) so that I can continue to work on other things while something is being packaged. Sometimes packaging takes 5+ minutes and I feel like I have wasted time when I could be working on something else while it packages in the background.

12. Allow users to create a shortcut for a paragraph style including "apply next style"

    You can add a shortcut to each paragraph style. If you apply it to several paragraphs they will all be in this style although you may have insert a "next style" to apply.
    So it would be great to have the opportunity for 2 shortcuts:
    – the way it's used to be
    – for applying the style plus next style

14. Utilize paragraph shading for text messages with improved functionality

    The new paragraph shading feature would be fantastic to use for laying out text message conversations in books/long from documents, but needs a few tweaks to make is fully functional. Text messages in books is becoming very common and having them run in the text while paging is crucial.

    It used to be that you had to create shapes and anchor each in for a text message. Now you can use Paragraph Shading defined in the style for left side texts with no adjustments, but because right side text messages need to have the "bubble" shape aligned right, but the interior text left aligned. My solution is (see sample file):
    Create three base paragraph styles:
    1. <left_side_text>: Defined: All text styling, paragraph shading set to Text, right/left indents, alignments, and space above/below, etc.
    2. <right_side_text>: Defined: Based on <left_side_text>, but remove left/right indents
    3. <right_side_text_align>: Defined: Based on <right_side_text>, but change to align flush right, add right indent (if needed), turn off paragraph shading.

    Next steps:
    1. Cut out all the <right_side_text> and create a standalone text frame for each text message.
    2. Create (or leave) empty returns where each right side text was and apply <right_side_text_align> to the return.
    3. Paste the text frames into the empty returns where appropriate to anchor frame.
    4. Select each frame and apply the Object style (Text Message Right in sample file).

    Could there be a way to separately control the shading alignment from the interior text alignment within the paragraph style? Much like how text functions within a div?

15. Measure Space Between Objects & Margins With a Toggle Key

    I'd love to see some of the same measurement tools that have made their way into Adobe XD and Photoshop work in InDesign.

    Being able to quickly see the space between objects and margins is great in these tools and I think it would be helpful in InDesign as well.

    I know the gap tool has some of this functionality, but I'm specifically looking to recreate the toggle function like holding alt/opt in Adobe XD. Perhaps the gap tool could be modified to have a toggle function to display the measurements in a similar way.

16. Add the ability to remove or change the position of the 'home' button in the top left

    It would be helpful to be able to move this button as it's so close to 'file' - accidental clicks of it can be irritating. I realize you can use Alt > F to open File, but often a click is easier.

17. Option for creating variable sets

    At present we have an option to define the variables but it would be great to have an option to group the variables (like a set). This could help the writers in easily managing the content.

18. No stupid US Letter size for UK

    No stupid US Letter, tabloid & legal sizes in New document presets (for UK version of InDesign), I know we share a language but we don't want that nonsense. Can we have more sizes we use like A2, A1 etc

19. support languages of Vanuatu, which are currently very difficult to typeset, with no text flow

    AFAICT, InCopy (and InDesign) do not currently support several writing systems, which makes font design for those scripts difficult. The avoiuli script of Vanuatu, for example, which is boustrophedon and can change from btm-to-top to top-to-btm. I'm working with a professional typographer, and trying to design a font that can't be implemented by any word processor that we know of means that a lot of choices in the design are probably not optimal. The best option currently seems to be placing a hard return at the end of each line, with manual RTL/LTR control, and sorting the lines in reverse in many cases. That messes with text flow and makes InCopy/InDesign essentially useless for publication. It's actually easier to typeset in a spreadsheet! (That lets you sort by line number, whereas in InCopy, in order to rearrange the text one needs to cut and paste each line of text individually.)

    Feel free to contact me about requirements, but basically we need boustrophedon support. Texts may start LTR or RTL, and may proceed bottom-to-top or top-to-bottom. Formal text direction is RTL bottom-to-top, but under Latin influence LTR top-to-bottom is usual in informal texts -- though still boustrophedon. Glyphs flip direction (mirror-image) when the line direction changes, though of course that could be handled by the font. It's also a linking script, which needs to be kept in mind when changing direction.

    I don't expect much from MS Word, and LibreOffice is volunteer-run and does not have the resources for minority-language support. It would be nice if an elite product like InCopy could provide support to unsupported languages. MW and others might then follow suite.
