An error occurred while saving the comment An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedTHIS IS KILLING ME. The Constrain Proportions lock is a vital element of any designers day. We need to be able to lock it and have it stay on then unlock it and have it stay off until reengaged. LIKE IT DID.
I've hunted around the settings to see if it's an option to set it back how it used to be and I can't find anything. Please help this has messed up projects for me about 200 times a day!
Every time you go to resize anything it turns back off again - image, pasted vector, box, doesn't matter what it is. But then very occasionally it will lock for one box but not for any others.
This unlocking every time means extra time/clicks for everything you touch, and you can easily accidentally disproportionately resize something when not using shift and drag method. e.g. I always paste in vector logos instead of linking to the vector which doesn't always clip the frame in tightly/adds time getting the frame right so you can align them. I almost always leave my constrain proportions lock ON. Before, I would just type a width and press enter, or use the up arrow while holding shift on width or height to bump it by 10's. With the lock turning off again all the time, I have to add a step to every single time I resize something and if it's a vector I can't tell if I forgot to click that lock again before doing so. If it's an image, and I forget to re-click lock proportions before typing a new size I can check the percent figures and see if width or height is different. If it's a vector I can't tell unless I really butcher the proportions so its adding a ton of time but also almost guaranteeing human error at some point.
It was SO handy before to turn it off + have it stay off for multiple tasks where you didn't need it locked, then turn it back on and have it stay on.
I assumed this was an error but we're now a week on from the update and it's still not yet fixed. HELP US!

Hi,
Thank you for reporting the issue. We are currently investigating the issue and updated the status in the Uservioce thread. However, the issue is still not reproducible in-house and we need additional information
- Screenshot of Memory usage while the issue is observed
- Is the "Contextual Task bar" shown? If yes, Disable it from "Window->Contextual Task bar"

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedAgree, updated to InDesign 20.0 and immediately very, very slow, laggy and buggy. Previous version was snappy with no real issues. I'm talking ball of death after every action, even scrolling or zooming causes stuttering, screen issues with mouse size jumping from big to small, boxes not loading (similar to the pink screen error from a few years ago where the whole design will look blank as you pan around but if you draw a coloured box over the whole thing then delete it, you can see your design again). I also lost custom shortcuts to some but not all menu commands (for example I set one for duplicate spread in place and that disappeared but other shortcuts I had set AFTER that, saved to the same set still worked, I can't even guess why this would be). Also every time I click into an image box and go to resize the image constrain proportions lock turns off again. Previously if I lock it, on one image, it'd stay locked for all images until I unlocked it again. Now, even for the same image it turns back off if I click out then back into the image and go to resize some more. WHY WHYYYYYY.

This feature is available in Adobe InDesign 2023 version.
Please update to this InDesign version to work with this feature.

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commented@Patricia Vigil - in your pages pallette press the hamburger icon, and select Duplicate Spread (instead of Duplicate Spread at end of document which is still an option).
An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedI just wanted to add I LOVE the new duplicate feature, I've set a keyboard shortcut to it as more often than not i'd prefer to duplicate in place than at the end of the document - FAB! Just need to be able to export pages with custom page name as prefix now and we'll be set!

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedThis is happening in files I've been given from other designers lately too, changing intent to web from print or vice versa doesn't change the [Black] to RGB black (or CMYK black if the other way around), and WORSE, a related bug happens where not all colours in a document actually appear as swatches...
So if any boxes or text etc in the document use a CMYK colour in say a document where Web is set as the intent, they don't show up in swatches palette... if I select that object and add the swatch, then go to "find colour" in a bid to replace all instances with the RGB version of the swatch, it finds no instances, if I add it it'll add a duplicate of the colour, and if I then delete that swatch + select a replacement it will only replace in that one element I had selected.
It's acting more like illustrator swatches lately and that was one of IND's best strengths previously, colour control!

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedI am experiencing this issue suddenly in the past week or two. It seems to affect only 72dpi jpg exports from indesign, if I export at 300dpi then open in photoshop and downsize to 72dpi then export as jpg again the file will be fine.
See attached comparison

Hi,
The ability to add suffix to JPEG/PNG is now available in InDesign’s latest release 19.0. Please let us know your feedback in comments.

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedExactly as Erik said, this is what I would also like.
Using suffix on export isn't enough and doesn't allow it to be at the start of the filename, and weirdly adds spaces to page size then you still have to rename it.
When using alternative layouts and exporting the layout name can't be included in the suffix either (which I was hoping might be a solution), and exporting certain layouts becomes almost impossible as there seems to be no way to select "ranges" once you have a few layouts with custom names (like 5-20 instead of all pages) and it messes up gif export extensions too which is a shame.
An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedNot completed, the issue is as Luke B said.
An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commented@James nailed it, that's exactly what I want.
An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedTodd’s instructions below are fab, BUT only work for PDF files - you then have to batch process in PS if you want to convert ads to jpg or png - which is yet another needless step. We need this built in, not a paid add on from another company.
PLEASE INDESIGN GODS, PLEASE!
*also please add gif export for things created using the animations palette ;-)

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commented100% need the ability to export gifs directly from indesign.
I'm a freelancer for a big company whose entire design team creates gifs daily as part of a regular and fast paced workflow requiring many formats of the same design with varying specs. We would all love the ability to export INDD pages as jpgs, set some basic settings like quality and timing, then have it export as gif directly, without having to jump into PS and import as stack, change those things then export again.
We create google PMAX and display ads, EDM's, web banners, you name it, and most are gifs now, it would save so much time to skip the photoshop step. Bonus points if you could export as a looping video and set the number of loops, or set a video duration and frame time then have it work out the loops for you.
It's so so strange that INDD has this animation panel yet you can't export any of the cool effects at all unless working on epub.

Hello All,
Kindly provide more information about this ask. How do you plan to use the Action Panel in InDesign? Do you want it to work exactly like that in Photoshop? What are the most important actions/operations that you want to record?
Thanks

An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commented@RY that’s what I do already re keyboard shortcuts but you still have to go into/select each text item when you do this, where a style would be faster to apply to hundreds at once.
An error occurred while saving the comment Creative Overlord commentedI do not understand why there is a shortcut on the menu bar to ALL CAPS but not Title Case or Sentence case! We need that AND the ability to force it with paragraph or character styles!!

UPDATE: Tried resetting InDesign preferences, logging out of creative cloud and back in, multiple restarts, tried the 20.1 beta update and nothing seems to fix this issue. If I open my older version of InDesign 2024 (v19.5) it's working. I tried exporting user settings from that version then importing to 2025 version but it gives me an error dialogue 'Incompatible locale detected. Please choose a valid file to proceed.' - No solution so far.
So definitely an issue with the 2025 update and clearly not one they plan to resolve fast.
