ID File Finder windows always revert back to minimal size after each use
All windows in the File menu that access the Finder (Save As, Export, Place, etc) always revert back to their minimal size after using them once instead of keeping last used size. Always need to resize the window to see more items in my destination folder.

InDesign stalls with with new MacBook Air (M1, 2020)
InDesign is stalling (pausing for up to 30 second) regularly on my new MacBook Air with the Silicon M1 chip. I know it is an Intel Based program but I don't think the emulator is working. Shouldn't Rosetta 2 download automatically when I use InDesign? I presume you (the good folks at Adobe) are working to make it native to the new chip. Happy Holidays. Seth

Converting footnotes to endnotes removes inline styling
InDesign 16.0.1
macOS 10.14.6Currently if using the 'Convert Footnotes and Endnotes' function, any inline styling of the text contained within the footnote is being removed. Eg text which is formatted as italic is being converted into non-italic etc.
Fortunately this doesn't appear to affect any character styles which have been applied, but it still creates a very high risk of losing formatting.
Ideally conversion from footnotes/endnotes should not alter the content.

Save Windows on Mac OS
NOTE: This is a problem not just on InDesign, but also on Illustrator and Photoshop as well.
Ever since the last upgrade for macOS Big Sur (ver 11.1), save, package and export windows have a serious issue. They don't show the pathways of the files even when you have it set to do so. Instead all you see is the options for what to include or any other information at the bottom of the window (see the attached screen shot).
Even when you enlarge the window to be able to see the paths, it does not retain the memory that you made the change and goes back to not being to see the pathways the next time you go to save, package or export.
Again, this is a universal Adobe issue, but this issue does not happen on other non-adobe software.

Cannot Export in PDF format
Adobe InDesign version: 16.0.1 x64
Platform: Windows 10, Version 20H2 (build SO 19042.685)
Problem:
Suddenly, from a couple of days, I cannot export in PDF format anymore.
When trying to export a file, I receive the message "Failed to Export PDF" (or something similar, I use the Italian version) – see image 1.It doesn’t matter the settings in the export window, I tried almost all the combinations, but the PDF generation fails.
I can export in.jpeg, for example, but it is not useful for me.Infos:
The same file has been successfully exported just a couple of hours before.
The only change in the tool / PC configuration was the re-installation of a font type (specifically, the Conduit ITC Pro).
I re-installed it because, even if it was correctly installed, I was not able to see the text in that specific font in InDesign.
I un-installed it and then re-installed it via the Windows settings (Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts).
The font was not an Adobe Font.
After that, everything seemed to be solved, but I was unable to export the file in PDF.
I noticed that the font was listed three times in the “Find/replace Font” window (see image 2).So, I replaced the font with the same one and then the list presented just one instance.
Solved! In this way, I’ve been able to export the file. Then, I tried with another file, but I encountered the same problem with another font.
In this case, it is a font used in the header of a master page and the text is a “text variable” that I use to identify the product name.
Also in this case, the text is not displayed, even if the font is available in the font list (see image 3).If I change the font, the text is displayed (see image 4).
The font, in this case, is an Adobe Font (see image 5).
The font is correctly “activated” and available in the Creative Cloud Desktop app (see image 6).
And also in Windows (Control Panel > Appearance and Personalization > Fonts), it is correctly displayed and recognized (see image 7).
I solved replacing the font and checking the "Redefine Style When Changing All” box, because several paragraph styles use the same font, but I’d need to use this font.
In another PC, with the same configuration, everything works well.
What can I do to solve this font issue? Why has it happened?Thx for the support
BRs

Images Blurry when PDFing from Book
I'm working with catalog documents in an .indb file and when PDFing from the book, without any other files open, all of the images come out looking like they are unlinked.
Images are all high resolution and linked in their individual files
I am using press quality/X1A presets with no compression set
Preflight shows no errorsThe only way to get clear images is to have every single INDD from the book open and THEN make the PDF, which, to me, defeats the purpose of the book functionality.
I don't remember this being an issue in earlier versions but i hadn't used the book function since college so it's very possible it's always been this way and I've forgotten in the ten years that have transpired.

Hello, I am using online document sharing to retrieve comments directly into inDesign. Unfortunately, the name of the correctors are display
Hello,
I am using online document sharing to retrieve comments directly into inDesign.
Unfortunately, the name of the correctors are displayed but their comments are invisible (text crossed out, underlined or added text).
A small blue wheel spins next to the filters icon.
Moreover, since this document sharing online, InDesign crashes every open.

Pages Pallet - page numbers under thumbnails hidden under last row of a small pallet
- InDesign 15.1.3
- Create a document where the Pages Pallet is smaller than the thumbnails in the pallet.
- Expected to see page numbers under the Thumbnails on the last row.
- Actual Result: The last row shows the thumbnail, but the page numbers are hidden, but only in the WORKSPACE views of: Advanced Book Essentials Essentials Classic …and my custom one (probably based on one of those above.)
The page numbers appear to work correctly in the other WORKSPACE layouts.
Attached are a couple images with the page numbers hidden, and one where it is displayed correctly (The correct one is using the [Digital Publishing] Workspace.)
Thank you.

Ruler with "pixel dirt"
I've noticed this "pixel dirt" at the base of the upper ruler. Sometimes, it shows up, I quit and it's gone to later show up again, "out of the blue".

Shift and Alt keys not working.
This seems to happen randomly, but while working on an InDesign doc these keys will stop working and the only fix is to restart my entire laptop. This doesn't really fix anything though because the issue can happen again within minutes of starting back up.
I use shift and alt a lot to align assets on my pages as well as duplicate certain assets. Among a bunch of other things.
This happens across all version I use (2019, 2020 and 2021)

Export to ePub / html removes single characters from class names randomly
On export to ePub and / or html (on Windows 10 64-bit), single characters are removed from class names. This appears to happen randomly (as shown below), but consistently (the same tags will have the same errors after closing and opening the document, after quitting and restarting InDesign, after restarting the computer, and whether exported as ePub or html).
– span class="Colour" becomes span class="Colo r" (set on character style)
– h4 class="Event-Month" becomes h4 class="E ent-Month" (though h4 class="Event-Date" is OK) (both set on paragraph style)
– span class="Link" becomes span class="Lin" (set on character style)These same errors are not restricted to one document; they also occur to another document with the same style sheets.
Changing these names revealed that this issue is related to a specific character in the class name, rather than the number of characters, as follows:
– changing to span class="Clr" outputs span class="Clr"
– changing to h4 class="Evnt-Month" outputs h4 class="E nt-Month" (h4 class="Event-Date" remains OK)
– changing to span class="Lnk" outputs span class="Ln"This means that, for some reason, random characters in specific class names are being removed or replaced with spaces.
Timing: I've updated my Windows 10 Pro to version 20H2, build 19042.630, but I've looked at a backup file created before that update and the issue was still present - therefore it's not related to the recent Windows feature update. The issue was not present last month, when I exported a document with the same settings, using InDesign v15.1.3 x64 - so it's happened after that. Therefore, this issue must be caused by a bug in the 2021 version of InDesign (v16.0 x64). I have confirmed this by exporting the same document as last month in v16, and the same error is present in that exported file.

Smart guides
Snap to grid and smart guides or any function where cursor automatically snaps to edge, corner, or center point is not working. I am currently using version 16.0. I have restarted the program 5 times. All of these features are check marked and turned on despite the features not working at all.
I will not work on my project because of this issue. I need to rely on the precise support of smart guides and snap to guides in order to do what I have to do. I'm very disappointed with this bug and upset I'm set back so much time. I spend a lot on this software. I'm providing pictures to show the functions are turned on but the cursor does not turn pink and snap to center of circle or edge.
I really need this fixed.

Serious InDesign Server slow down with Catalina
We are stuck with serious performance issues with our scripts for InDesign Server (mostly Applescripts) after upgrading from Mojave (macOS 10.14.6) to Catalina (macOS 10.15.7). The problems are alike with Indesign Server CC 2019 and CC 2020.
The current machine is a Mac Mini (2018) is used as development server for our current project. But when taken in production (very soon) the solution that is the outcome of the project must be able to run on a machine that demands Catalina or later. And this solution will rely heavily on high performance.
Earlier we managed to solve some permission issues that came with the upgrade (described in another post). But I’m afraid the current performance problems 'are much deeper rooted and can only be solved by Adobe and/or Apple.
We haven’t encountered any resembling performance issues with other applications than Indesign Server, or with scripts working with tasks that does not involve InDesign server on these machines or other macs running Catalina. The slow down with InDesign Server are abnormal.
The problems manifests themselves in several ways:
- The time it takes for a script to do its tasks have raised to unacceptable levels. In the very best cases, it has more than tripled.
- Processing time also varies a lot between executions of the same script – for no apparent reasons.
- Processing time is often even higher when initiated by a soap call than when the same script is run from a script editor.
For evaluation I have used one and the same script working with one and the same document. The test document (relatively light in our context) is opened from a template with around 350 empty text- and image frames. The script first analyses the document, recording all frames with a certain label content and makes a setting record for those frames based on the label content. Then it imports text and place images according to those settings.
Under Mojave it takes just above one minute for the script to do the job – both when started with a soap call and directly from an editor. Processing time is varying between 1:02 and 1:12, which I consider to be a ”natural” variation.
After the upgrade, the scores for editor executions have varied between 2:08 and 3:44. Started with soap the time varies between 3:30 and above 5 minutes
The increase in process time – at least 300 to 500 percent with soap calls – is of course unacceptable. The large variations is also a problem in itself
Notes:
• The process time scores above referes to the time amount from when the script starts to work with the document until it’s finished with the document (so any delays outside of the document processing is not included).• We cannot pick out certain actions that has slowed more than other. The recording of document content is heavily decelerated – taking between 40 seconds and 2 minutes and more, compared to taking a few seconds with Mojave. Likewise, the process to place text and images, fit images to the frame and so on have slowed down to the same extent.
• To confirm the problem, we have also done the same tests on a fresh machine delivered from Apple with Catalina pre-installed, a lot of RAM and no other installations than the necessary for doing these tests – with the same disappointing results.
