[ID-4274243] InDesign clearing Undo stack frequently
Undo not working, InDesign 21.02x64
16.12.2025
As recently as yesterday, it was possible to perform more than 50 undo actions, but today only 1–2 steps are available, and my colleagues are experiencing the same issue.
Fix for this issue is available in the latest InDesign 2026 release (21.2.0.30) and InDesign 2025 LTS release (20.5.2.078), please update to this release from CCD app.

I am having the same issue with InDesign. I have the latest version installed and only have 2-3 undos. I'm not having the issue in Photoshop or Illustrator so I know it is not an issue with my computer.

Hello everyone, I continue to report the undo issue. The problem has been occurring since around December 14. I use Windows 11 Pro, and I have updated InDesign to the latest version, but the problem persists. I am attaching a video to clarify what is happening on my computer. Please let me know if I can share anything else to help the Adobe team resolve this bug.

I'm experiencing this too - only about 3 undos. Very frustrating! I've uninstalled/restarted/deleted preferences/tried an older version etc and nothing works.

I'm experiencing the same issue - only 4-5 undos total. Working on Windows 11 Enterprise with InDesign version 21.1.x64. My RAM is at 16GB.
Undo steps in History pane seem to disappear whenever I delete or edit an object. If I'm just moving objects around, I have several undos to step back through.

I also tested this issue in an earlier stable version (InDesign 20.5.1), and the problem still occurs.
Undo works briefly after launching the app, then stops working again (only 1–2 steps), even in new documents.
This indicates the issue is not limited to a specific version.I think there's a high probability of a conflict with InDesign after receiving a Windows update. The Windows version number is 25h2.

i wrote this bug a Year ago, A YEAR!...sad. Can you imagine how good you have to be with InDesign if you have to survive A YEAR only on 3 undo steps?!

It's Jan 3rd. So are we seriously expected to wait years for a fix? It is mind-blowing that we even have to discuss this. Do you honestly expect designers to work in InDesign without Undo? This isn't a feature request it’s a fundamental tool that you’ve broken.

I am having this issue too and it's becoming horrible to work with losing info and then having to redo everything. I also tried reinstalling to old versions but now it doesn't work in those either. I also keep getting the issue where the text box becomes blank.

The bug is still present with version 21.1.
It is sad that a bug like that is not found by Adobe's Development / Testing Team prior rolling it out to paying customers. This issue is really not good for Adobe's reputation, even though I do have a certain understanding that it can be difficult to find and resolve software bugs. -

When using the program normally, indesign will periodically delete ALL history between the current action and "Open" and erase it. Often within seconds of performing said actions. This has hamstrung all functionality of indesign in the context we use it for.
Reproduction: Normal Use
Version: Indesign 20.5.1
Expected result: History stretching back to document open, related undo/redo functionality
Actual result: Not that. No document history besides open, no related functionality.
Attached file shows a document that had been open and actively worked on for 3 hours prior to viewing the history panel, as well as the history actions being removed in-use.

Hi, I have the same problem. I’ve noticed that InDesign has lost the ability to go back more than a few steps in the undo history. I think this started after updating to InDesign 2026 – in version 2025 it worked without any issues. It’s very frustrating to work like this, it feels like going 20 years back to the QuarkXpress era.
I’ve tried resetting preferences and even going back to an older InDesign version, but nothing helped. I’m currently working with InDesign 21.0.1 x64, Windows 11 Home 25H2, and my graphics card does not support GPU acceleration.
Please let me know when this issue is fixed.
Thanks,

Having this issue for the past couple of weeks here. Tried all the normal resets, tried reverting back to the previous major InDesign release, and even in desperation a Windows reinstall. No go.

First issue has been addressed before, but doesn't seem to get a fix. History step gets erased after 10 seconds, so you can undo only during these 10 seconds. Otherwise no undo, no redo. Huge issue.
Second issue, some pages get corrupted for no reason? Layers on these pages get disappeared and reappeared some times with no ability to access them. Can't move, can't see them some times and when the whole document is about to be exported, those pages give an error "There's an error in page 94" and the exportion is canceled. The only fix is to delete the page and recreate it one again, HOWEVER, when I did create one of them in the same page number as the corrupted one, it still gave me the same result, it was corrupted. I had to add 2 blank pages to get it to work. Like why? Does anyone else have the same problem? Please fix! I can't work like that and I have deadlines to reach.
Thank you,
Thomas
