InDesign 2025 Won't Lock "Constrain Proportions"
When creating a frame, rectangle, any object, or selecting any other object, InDesign 2025 will not keep Constrain Proportions locked when the lock icon is clicked on the control bar.
The user now has to click it while they select each object and want to scale an object by scaling either the width or height.
I didn't notice this at first, but found out from a Reddit post.

Just came back to see if the release of 20.0.1 has meant someone might be looking at this from Adobe. C'mon guys get on this already!

FFS!!! Fix this!

PLEASE fix this - its adding so much design time to have to click the constrain proportions lock again EVERY time I resize a box by entering a number in the top control panel up top. In the space of 5 mins I probably click that thing 20 times now, as it constantly turns back off. It adds up over a 12hr design day!!

I should add to this, I cannot remember the default behaviour previously but this could be a useful clue as to identifying the erroneous code. Each of the three locations above (Control, Transform & Properties Panel) each exhibit independent behaviour regarding the setting of these locks, where both Constrain proportions for width & height and the Constrain proportions for scaling are not updated and reflected in the other panels. This is not the case for the reference point and the other transformation settings such as flip rotate etc. where when you adjust one they all change in the other panels.
Also this is not a Graphics/Images/Assets issue as it has been logged. It is a Performance/Usability & UI issue

In both the Control Bar and the Properties panel, this was previously a toggle setting and you'd check it and forget. Now every object every once applied to one, as soon as you deselect the object, the setting resets. Not only that, and possibly related, my transform panel doesn't include the lock alongside the dimensions at all, it is only visible alongside the scale. The scale one seems to be able to remember it's setting, so this is clearly a bug.
Possibly on an unconnected yet related note, resizing via entry of dimensions is ignoring the 'Adjust Stroke Weight when Scaling' option, but is honoured when scaling via percentage. This means I need to either work out the scale factor, or adjust manually by dragging while holding Shift and Control. Not ideal!

This problem is driving me mad. I've been looking but it seems there is no solution anywhere.

UPDATE: Tried resetting InDesign preferences, logging out of creative cloud and back in, multiple restarts, tried the 20.1 beta update and nothing seems to fix this issue. If I open my older version of InDesign 2024 (v19.5) it's working. I tried exporting user settings from that version then importing to 2025 version but it gives me an error dialogue 'Incompatible locale detected. Please choose a valid file to proceed.' - No solution so far.
So definitely an issue with the 2025 update and clearly not one they plan to resolve fast.

THIS IS KILLING ME. The Constrain Proportions lock is a vital element of any designers day. We need to be able to lock it and have it stay on then unlock it and have it stay off until reengaged. LIKE IT DID.
I've hunted around the settings to see if it's an option to set it back how it used to be and I can't find anything. Please help this has messed up projects for me about 200 times a day!
Every time you go to resize anything it turns back off again - image, pasted vector, box, doesn't matter what it is. But then very occasionally it will lock for one box but not for any others.
This unlocking every time means extra time/clicks for everything you touch, and you can easily accidentally disproportionately resize something when not using shift and drag method. e.g. I always paste in vector logos instead of linking to the vector which doesn't always clip the frame in tightly/adds time getting the frame right so you can align them. I almost always leave my constrain proportions lock ON. Before, I would just type a width and press enter, or use the up arrow while holding shift on width or height to bump it by 10's. With the lock turning off again all the time, I have to add a step to every single time I resize something and if it's a vector I can't tell if I forgot to click that lock again before doing so. If it's an image, and I forget to re-click lock proportions before typing a new size I can check the percent figures and see if width or height is different. If it's a vector I can't tell unless I really butcher the proportions so its adding a ton of time but also almost guaranteeing human error at some point.
It was SO handy before to turn it off + have it stay off for multiple tasks where you didn't need it locked, then turn it back on and have it stay on.
I assumed this was an error but we're now a week on from the update and it's still not yet fixed. HELP US!
