[macOS Sonoma]White Screen on drawing marquee/highlighting text in CPU and Overprint Preview modes
Hi,
Since I've updated my mac mini to Sonoma, when I use InDesign, the documents flash every time I click on it. If I click and hold, the screen become completely white. This is very annoying, almost impossible to work.
Please help me!

I found a hint on another forum that was a helpful temp fix, disabling the rulers seems to reduce the pain. I have found nothing else that seemed to help fix the issue.

The newest update (14.1) didn't solve this issue. It seems that Apple didn't listen to Adobe.
I'll work all weekend long to downgrade all computers on the studio to fix the problem myself.
Honestly, I think Apple have nothing to do with it. Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effects have the GPU feature enable. -

In Mac OS Sonoma 14 and InDesign 19.0, drag select is unusable because screen redraw doesn't show you what you are selecting. You click, then as soon as you drag, the screen goes white, and you have to guess the thing you are trying to select. Also, in the Tabs bar, dragging a tab will also force the screen white and give you no visual to follow. This has not been a problem in earlier versions of InDesign, or the Mac OS.

Same issue, happens on both high rez monitor and low rez monitor, macmini 2018. (I was able to toggle the GPU setting on my high rez monitor and that seemed to help slightly, but not completely.)

Mac mini 2023 M2 Pro, 32GB, Sonoma
Machine # 1 ID 2024 started using immediately had issues with White Screen on drawing marquee/highlighting text.
Machine # 2 ID 2024 installed but never opened, used ID 2023 everything works fine. No issues.
Opened ID 2024 immediately had issues with White Screen on drawing marquee/highlighting text on both ID 2023 & ID 2024.So the issue does not start until you START 2024 for the first time, if you downloaded ID 2024 and have not started it ID 2023 will work fine. But once you start ID 2024 you can not undo what ever the problem is even if you uninstall ID 2024 and ID 2023 and just reinstall ID 2023 the problem still persists.
Both identical Macs.
Non of the listed work arounds worked.

PLEASE FIX!!!!
None of these solutions suggested work for me on M1 Max (I do appreciate Joe's approach though). The flashing is just too much. We need a fix. For it to have been going on this long without an update is ridiculous.

Though it may not have worked for some, clearing the cache and deleting the preference file has resolved the issue for me, at least for now. See Joe's comment for instructions on how to do this.
"To do this, close inDesign, hold down shift+command+control+option, then click to open inDesign, while still holding down. Select yes at the window prompt, then open a document and test it out. You will lose your thumbnails to previous projects, and your workspace will default to Essentials (any saved workspaces will still be available). This has resolved the issue for me for now."

Wow. What a joke. Apple / Adobe broke indesign.

These solutions do not work - the problem persists. Please find a solution - this problem severely affects my daily work.

So if I understand correctly, I have to wait for the goodwill of Apple/Adobe or I buy a new 4K monitor for each computer in the studio, which has worked very well until last month.

I am using Mac Mini M1, MacOS Sonoma 14.0, and Adobe InDesign 19.0. The text highlighting and scrolling issue still exists and it is triggering vision issues and migraines.
The workaround does not apply because InDesign cannot detect a compatible GPU with my device.
Please fix this issue as soon as possible.
Thank you!

This morning I got another InDesign update, but this issue persists. We need to move forward!! Otherwise, I turned auto-update off in all others macs in my agency until this very upset problem will be fixed.
Please, fix it as soon as possible.
Thank you,

Mac mini M1
OS Sonoma 14.0
Adobe InDesign 18.5The screen flickers when I select text. Working is therefore almost impossible. This is not a small problem for me - should be fixed as soon as possible. I also don't have the option to work in GPU.

I don't have the option to work in GPU mode only, as it is greyed out

I just updated the OS to Sonoma and every time I select text by highlighting it in the text frame, the screen flickers and goes white until I release the mouse button.

With Sonoma there has been a problem when moving or touching Indesign objects within a project. It turns the screen blank when you click or move within the application and I can not remove it is very uncomfortable and makes my work much slower, I am delaying the work because of this failure. A SOLUTION NOW!!!!

If I want to select text or several things, the workspace turns white so that I can no longer see what I'm selecting, but after releasing the mouse button everything is fine again.
With the InDesing 18.5 and 18.4 Version on MacOS 14
