I had the same problem with another file in April 2020 can't find any solution and again now September 2020 I still have the same problem.
So I track down to export page by page and found that some of the page error, can't export. and the page that has a problem doesn't show a sample on the thumbnail also.

but if I export with PDF/x-1a: 2001 and PDF 1.3 suddenly work but some text missing form the pages that damage.

Such an annoying program, why do I still pay for it

I am on version 15.1.2 and still having this issue. Also on a deadline, tried many of these tips to resolve before I came here. This is deeply frustrating.

This same error comes when I try export 2 files with text and pictures. . 53 pages. version 15.1.2

(picture in finnish, but error is Failed to export the PDF file)

Has anyone else found a resolution to this? I saw someone below said they saved as a new indesign file in a completely separate folder from the original, and same with the pdf export, saved in a totally separate folder, and that seemed to work. Wondering if anyone else tried this successfully?

Just installed lateste versjon 15.1. The bug is still there. This is not good enough, Adobe.

I'm having the same problem, but with InDesign Server 15.0.2

The same script works fine in InDesign 2020, but fails in IDS.

I found a way to save my PDFs after getting the error message, "Failed to Export the PDF file".

When exporting my interactive PDF, I chose to save it outside of the original folder the InDesign file was located.

It worked.

To avoid future issues, I also Saved a Copy of my InDesign file outside of the original folder and created a Package so I would also have all the resources in one new folder.

Interestingly, when I tried to delete the original folder, I had to enter an administrator password before the folder could be transferred to the Trash.

I don't know how or why the folder had this type of 'security' on it but perhaps that is why Adobe InDesign could not save the PDF to the original folder.

This has been my bug bear for some time.

When you get a PDF failure, there is absolutely no explanation why it failed.

I notice if you export an interactive PDF you get the dialogue window which explains which pages are getting processed, so when an error occurs, you at least know where in the document the problem is likely to be.

When you export to PDF the normal way and get a PDF error, it would be good if you could get some kind of explanation.

Myself and team members have had this problem for a long while now. We have had this error occur and we cannot find a reason why as it doesnt offer an explanation. We think it may have something to do with links, but this is a constant frustration for us. Any help would be great.

Having the exact same issue. Sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, seems to depend on file size. Frustrating as I constantly export PDF's.

Export to high-res PDF spins for hours, stuck at 90%. Happening with large file exports using InDesign CC 2020 on Windows and Mac. Can't close the background task so InDesign has to be quit using the task manager.

I have been using Adobe InDesign for years and recently when attempting to 'export' to pdf "Press Quality" a popup appears with "Failed to Export the PDF file." each time. This is happening with Windows 10 and Adobe InDesign CC 15.0.1 x64. I am able to 'print' the same file to Adobe PDF; however, the quality is less than ideal.
