This is brilliant - I changed the preferences and it works fine now. However I do think Adobe should have alerted their customers to the bug. I thought it was my keyboard creating the problem - I had no idea it was a software issue. So yesterday I went and paid £70 for a new keyboard, only to find the problem persisted. And I bet I'm not the only one to have done this - it seems the obvious solution if letters aren't appearing correctly when you type. As Adobe knew about this they should have let their customers know!

When selecting text and then typing new text to replace it, the first letter does not enter. For instance, if I selected text and tried to type to replace it with "example" I would only get "xample". The highlight and replace works when the first letter of the replacement text is a capital letter; but it does not work when the it is a lower case letter or a number.

When I type a number I have to press the number key twice before it displays what I typed. This occurs when I initially start typing numbers. If it is a sequence of number after the first number (pressing the key twice) the rest of the numbers only need the key pressed once. This is happening in version 13.0.1. I have returned to version 13.0 where this issue does not occur.

Can somebody respond to this below bug.

Using version 13.1 x64

I installed the latest InDesign CC update yesterday. Since then, whenever I mark text I want to replace and enter new text, the first character of the new text is omitted. I have to remember to type the first character twice or to put in a space before entering the new text.

To reproduce:
Put some text in a text box.
Mark a word or phrase you want to change.
Type the change.

Expected result: All of the characters in the change appear.
Actual result: The first character of the change is omitted.

It seems as if the first character registers only as a signal to delete the selected text.

My comments below might seem a bit out-of-place, because they are. :) They were from my own posting of this, now merged with this one.

I thought it was me going mad, not having noticed until now that Adobe did this or something. Glad it was a bug!! Although please fix this :) If something needs a workaround, then clearly it's broken and needs fixing.

The attached image describes the situation, where the normal expection is that if I press, e.g., a letter "a", the text is replaced with a letter "a". Instead, it does nothing with the first keypress, besides hiding the OpenType icon. Only after the second keypress the text is replaced.

The de facto standard on Windows (and Mac, I presume) text editing is that you can select a word (e.g., by double-clicking a word) or any part of text, and then if you start typing, the selected word disappears and is overwritten with your typing. I.e., when pressing any character key when a word is selectd, it is replaced with the respective character and the text selection is emptied.

However, the new OpenType feature floating icon prevents this. If I select text inside a text frame, the OpenType icon appears. If I then press any key, it does nothing with the first keypress but closes the OpenType icon.

This is very unintuitive, as for years you have been able to start replacing text by just selecting it. This constantly leads me to write words with the first letter missing, as it was lost in the OpenType icon closing.

The keypress when the OpenType icon is showing doesn't seem to do any action, so perhaps this is just a bug?

So not happy with the latest bug released with update. Get it right before you release please! What a time suck in changing out keyboard batteries, replacing keyboard, having to type initial character 2x, searching for fixes, etc. We have work to do, as does Adobe -- get it right before releasing please.

After Adobe InDesing update to version 13.1 the program unexpectedly and irregularly skips the first letter of the word, i.e.: I write "Adobe", the text tool writes "dobe", i write "selected" the text tool writes "elected", etc.
The problem is not just mine issue, but my colleague´s too. No problem with this in MS Word, and other software.
Please, FIX IT UP immediately.

it only does it for numbers... I thought my keyboard was broken until I saw this.
