Shortcuts and keyboard keys stop working.
CC2018, Windows 10, latest update as of 01/18/18, x64 system with 12GB RAM. I often have to close and reopen documents or InDesign itself for shortcuts and some keys to work. There does not seem to be a common cause or specific file(s) that sets it off and it may or may not happen to all open documents if more than one is open. Generally closing the document and reopening it helps, but there have been times where I have to restart the program for anything to work. The issue includes any shortcuts and sometimes keys such as the arrow keys when trying to edge a graphic or text box over. Generally, I am able to type in the file name if I am trying to save my work before I close the program, but there have been times that my keyboard is disabled there as well and I have to save over what I have open, rely on the auto-backup file, or duplicate the file in Explorer and rename it so I don't lose the original file. This has not been an issue in any other programs except InDesign and has only been in the past few weeks. The crashing since the last update has subsided, but this issue has not. I would love to know how to fix this.
The issue has been fixed in the latest release of InDesign – InDesign 2021.
Please update to this new version of InDesign to get the fix.

I am having the same problem. Space bar doesn't give the the quick hand tool, Option doesn't quick copy and paste and the shirt key doesn't allow me to . use constrain proportions.
Very frustrating.

I'm on Mac using CC 2020 and my keyboard shortcuts are also acting up. I'll whole shift, alt, or command while clicking/dragging, and the modifier key won't do anything so I'll just end up moving whatever I selected instead of performing the actual desired action.

I am on a PC with BLOX CMS. My fingers slipped on the keyboard and I appear to have disabled my ability to use customized InDesign keyboard shortcuts. The BLOX program custom keys work fine. How do I restore my Indesign custom hotkeys?

I have found that if I keep a random pdf document on my desktop, then simply open it and use Ctrl-w to close it, the shortcuts in indesign magically start functioning again.

I face the very same problem. For example, CTRL + right arrow stops working frequently.

Just updated my Indesign and it happens to me too! None of the shortcut keys works and have to manually do it using mouse.
However, somehow it works fine again. What I did was just open up the Keyboard shortcut in InDesign then click OK. Not sure if it will work on everyone.

I'm on a MAC, OS Mohave 10.14.6 if that matters. All of a sudden today all of my keyboard shortcuts for InDesign and Photoshop stopped working! Huge pain! Don't realize how often you use them till you can't anymore. When will these be fixed?

INDD v 14.0
using MAC OS 10.14.2
when I try to open file using command+o it won't do anything. I can open file by going to FILE + OPEN
so not a huge deal but VERY annoying to me who uses keyboard commands for most of my work. doesn't seem logical -

So annoying. Keyboard shortcuts almost never work when I open a file. Have to close, and reopen for it to work.
How am I paying so much for this..

Pretty much every time I open InDesign I can not use the shortcuts.
This in combination with the immense lags almost makes this software unusable - and users are forced to pay 60 Euros a month for this. More and more using freebie software like Google docs or keynote, though these has some serious limitations they still provide an uninterrupted workflow. And I know I will be able to keep dead lines and deliver what ned for clients. Adobe really turned into a joke.. -
