InDesign performance issue: Hangs when exporting to PDF
- Latest Indesign CC, Windows 10
- ID would sometimes not finish the export to PDF task and hangs for minutes. It must then be killed in the task manager. During this it constantly consumes a big lot of RAM and CPU power. See attachment.
Fix for this issue is now available in the latest update of InDesign 2020 – that is, InDesign 15.0.1
In the Creative Cloud Desktop application, click on the Updates section on the left. You should be able to see the Update available for InDesign. Please update your InDesign application to this version to try out the fix.
Let us know in the comments section if you face any problem with the updation process.

This constantly happens for me. Sometimes it hangs at 5% for a large export (100MB+ PDF export) and doesn't write anything, and other times it hangs at 99% for a normal export (10MB+ PDF export) but the exported file seems to be complete.

This has become a significant problem. I've rolled back the installed version of Acrobat and this improves tings somewhat. Adobe needs to deal with this in a proper manner. Clean installation of Creative Cloud, Acrobat & InDesign does not cure the problem for us.

I am also having with CC 2019
it doesnt matter if i export 1 page or the entire document, it succesfully create the pdf, then hangs, indesign is totally unresponsive, no errors.
i have to end task and recover the document each time, thankfully i have lost enough work over the years to have multiple back ups, but not good. -

I'm having this problem with CC:2019 (Oct release) — hang, then crash which sometimes creates a corrupted INDD file.

I have a big problem with InDesign CC2018. When I export any PDF document from INDD, the PDF files are successful while the INDD program crashes and I have to restart it every time.
You lose a lot of time for this inconvenience; It never happened in previous versions of the program. There is a solution for this? -

Is there any fix for this? After I export my PDF, Indesign hangs or even quits by itself. AND - this is a big issue - sometimes the file corrupts? Indesign even tells me it is better to save-as. This is NOT good!

Something was wrong on one or more pages in the document that kept corrupting.
I got (older but non-corrupt) those pages from an older version of the doc, and used MOVE to bring in the other (non corrupt latest version) pages from the latest version of the doc.
I had to be careful, because if ID even tried to show the thumbnail of the corrupt pate, it would hang/crash.
Never did determine what was wrong with those partuicular pages. -

Exporting to PDF taking all computing power, which should be a background task. Causes beach ball effect. FIX IT

Certain of my files will corrupt and hang during export - 31% in my case. Win 7, 13.0.1 x64. Just uninstalled/reinstalled yesterday using Adobe CC. The doc exported fine a few times, then the course of editing seems to have changed something, and export hangs.

In the moment when the PDF export background task creates the actual PDF from the temporary data, Indesign completely freezes for a moment. Could be 10 seconds, could also be 20. Seems to depend on how many pages the document has. This was absolutely not this way in the older CS6 version I used for years before upgrading recently.
