1. Alt-Text: incorrect German text

   Within the preferences, Adobe tells German users that the text "KI-generierte Inhalte" will be added to the alt-text, if this feature is activated.

   But instead "Beschreibung von KI generiert" is added in reality (second screenshot). This is the correct meaning, so please change this in the preferences to "Beschreibung von KI generiert" as well.

2. indesign 21.5.1 / incopy 21.5.5 Spaltenbreiten in Tabellen

   mein Kunde und ich nutzen seit vielen Jahren den Incopy/Indesign-Austausch. Seit ein paar Tagen habe ich das Problem, dass sich die erste Spaltenbreite der vorhandenen Tabellen ändert, sobald die .icma-Datei in incopy geöffnet wird. Die Spaltenbreiten sind in Indesign fest definiert (erste Spalte 21,8 mm) - nach dem Öffnen in Incopy ist sie nur noch 14,111 mm breit. Manchmal (aber nicht immer) wird die falsche Spaltenbreite auch ins Indesign-Dokument übernommen, sobald die Aufgaben aktualisiert sind. Dadurch zerschießt sich unser komplettes Layout. Die Tabellen bestehen aus 4 Reihen und 3 Spalten, in der ersten Reihe sind die Spalten verbunden. Das Problem tritt in älteren Versionen nicht auf

3. “Missing Fonts” Alert Is Not Displayed When “Embedded Profile Mismatch” Warning Appears on Document Open

   InDesign 2025 (20) and later
   macOS, Windows

   Steps to Reproduce

   1. Prepare an INDD file that satisfies both of the following conditions:
      • The document’s embedded color profile does not match the current Color Settings
      • One or more fonts used in the document are not installed on the current machine
   2. Open the INDD file.
   3. Observe the dialog(s) that appear.

   Expected Result

   Both alerts are displayed:
   1. The “Embedded Profile Mismatch” dialog appears first.
   2. After dismissing it, the “Missing Fonts” dialog appears as usual.

   Actual Result

   Only the “Embedded Profile Mismatch” dialog is shown. The “Missing Fonts” dialog is never presented. The missing fonts are highlighted in pink in the layout, with no opportunity to review or resolve them at open time.

   Additional Notes

   • In InDesign 2024 (19) and earlier, the “Missing Fonts” dialog appeared after the “Embedded Profile Mismatch” dialog as expected.
   • Since INDD files always embed a color profile, the “Embedded Profile Mismatch” dialog appears whenever the document’s profile differs from the user’s Color Settings, making this bug easy to trigger in typical production workflows.

   Impact

   When the color profile warning fires first, users are not notified of missing fonts. The missing fonts are silently substituted, making it highly likely that work or output will proceed with incorrect fonts. The only way to check for missing fonts is to manually open Type > Find Fonts… after the document is already open.

   Workaround

   On macOS only: dropping the file directly onto the InDesign application window avoids the issue. No workaround is available on Windows, or when using other open methods on macOS.

   • INDDファイルには必ずカラープロファイルが埋め込まれるため、ドキュメントのプロファイルとユーザーのカラー設定が異なれば必ずこの不一致ダイアログが表示される。これにより、通常の制作ワークフローでも本バグは容易に発生する。

   影響

   カラープロファイルの警告が先に発生した場合、ユーザーは環境にないフォントの存在を通知されない。気づかないままフォントが代替表示された状態で作業・出力が行われる可能性が極めて高い。環境にないフォントを確認するには、ドキュメントを開いた後に手動で「書式 > フォントの検索と置換...」を開くしかない。

   回避策

   macOSのみファイルをInDesignのアプリケーションウィンドウに直接ドロップして開くと本バグは発生しない。Windowsでは回避策なし。macOSでも他の開き方では回避できない。

4. Unable to select multiple objects or key object

   Recently, it is not possible to select some objects or a key object.
   This does not happen with every object - probably only with images.
   I know that this problem has already been reported and you wrote that it has been resolved, in fact it still exists, so I opened a new request.

5. [BUG] Generative AI Alt Text setting will turn itself on when importing user settings

   This is my 2nd day this week posting a very frustrating bug on InDesign and I consider this one far worse. In trying to figure out a bug with workspaces on Monday, I exported my current settings, reset InDesign preferences, and imported my settings back in. 

    

   I did not check the settings. I should have. The generate AI Alt-text box had been rechecked, and I had NEVER manually done that. I have recreated this issue more than 5+ in a row by:

    

   1. Resetting my InDesign preferences to the default and restarting.
   2. Reopening InDesign, checking off both Generative AI boxes in preferences
   3. Export those settings, reset preferences back to default on reset, and reopen InDesign
   4. When you reopen InDesign and import your preferences (they should be default with both Gen-AI boxes UNCHECKED), the “Auto-generate Alt Text when placing images” WILL BE TURNED ON EVERY TIME WITHOUT FAIL.

    
   I cannot explain how upset I am by this bug. I am nearly insisting this broken and destructive feature be pulled from the app because it has only been a nuisance for most users I have spoken to. If there is n feature that can automatically affect 100+ photos in a document, why is there not a feature to automatically remove any changes? Why on earth to I have to manually fix the AI’s mistake that I didn’t even ask for???

    

   I spent the past 3 days working on files that now have had AI Alt text generated for them without me knowing. I have had those settings off since they first came out. 

    

   I have absolutely no way to know which files have been affected because AFAIK there is no history log.

    

   BONUS TIME!!

    

   I would also love to point out that the Alt-text tag is affected by layers. If your photo bleeds behind an object, the alt text symbol will be hidden. Maybe this is not new, but almost feels like another step to further hide AI alt text generation from users. 

    

    

   This bug has pretty much broken me on this problem and made me furious. Are there even bug testers for these features? I am a designer, not a software engineer, yet this is my second InDesign bug found this week that has seriously impacted my workflow and made me take time out of my work day to address it. I am furious. At this point I feel I deserve compensation lmao.

6. [ID-4273456] Press the opt/alt key after dragging, it duplicated to the incorrect layer

   InDesign 2026 （and earlier, too）I was found out in CS6.

   Issue:
   When drag and duplicate any object, the duplicate destination will be the previous active layer under certain conditions.

   Reproduction procedure:
   1 Layer panel "Paste Remembers Layers" check off
   2 Unselect, and duplicate the object Activate layers other than the layers of the object
   3 Start dragging and add the option/alt key in the middle of dragging
   4 After dragging, the object is duplicated to the layer that was active in step 2

   Ideal result:
   The uplication by dragging will be duplicated to the same layer as the original regardless of any setting.

   I really hope to correct it.

   4 ドラッグ終了後、オブジェクトは手順2でアクティブだったレイヤーに複製される

   理想の結果
   ドラッグによる複製はいかなる設定にも関係なくオリジナルと同一のレイヤーに複製されること

   修正をすごく希望します。

7. (InDesign)Problem with metadata after conversion v15 to v20

   After converting some old .indd files to v20 from v15 I see that custom metadata is completely wrong. I’d assume that during conversion InDesign finds old metadata packets and set incorrect values
   Here is the cimpress:Id value we have before conversion which is correct(pic1)

   But after conversion to v20(v19 works correct) I got something like this(pic2):
   To convert the file you need to simply open BEFORE_CONVERSION.indd in v20 Indesign

   Expected result is cimpress:Id have same value as pic1.png
   Actual result is pic2.png
   Is it possible to fix conversion process somehow, because it breaks a lot of flows and makes migration to the new InDesign versions impossible?

8. Alt+drag duplicates only one object

   When two or more placed/linked files are selected and duplicated using Alt+drag, only one of the objects is duplicated.

   (Workaround: Grouping the linked objects before Alt+drag works as expected

   Summary:
   InDesign is unable to maintain separate color settings for each version. Whenever a different version is activated, the color settings are forcibly overwritten by the last activated version.

   Steps to Reproduce:
   Launch InDesign 2025 and set the color settings to “Preset A” (e.g., a print vendor’s recommended settings).
   Launch and activate InDesign 2024.
   Without any warning, InDesign 2024 will adopt the same Preset A color settings.
   This also occurs in the opposite direction: activating either version will overwrite the other’s previously configured color settings.

   Expected Behavior:
   Like Photoshop and Illustrator, InDesign should maintain independent color settings for each version.

   Actual Behavior:
   InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, and Bridge all write the currently selected color setting preset to the shared sync file:
   ~/Library/Preferences/Adobe/Color/ACEConfigCache2.lst
   This file is what allows Bridge to synchronize color settings across Adobe apps.

   However, InDesign is the only application that overwrites the settings record for another version of InDesign, regardless of version.

   Root Cause:
   All apps use the same file, but only InDesign fails to differentiate versions.
   This causes one version of InDesign to overwrite the color settings of another—simply by being activated.

   Commentary:
   This behavior disrupts professional workflows.
   In environments such as print production where different versions of InDesign must use different color settings (e.g., for different clients or print vendors), this is a critical issue.

   InDesign should follow the same behavior as Photoshop and Illustrator:
   Write version-specific entries to ACEConfigCache2.lst, and avoid overwriting other versions’ settings.

   Summary:

10. variable devanagari fonts characters not composing correctly

    Variable fonts in Devanagari & Gurmukhi no longer compose characters correctly. InDesign 21.3. Mac Sequoia 15.7.1.

    They did work previously, and if I open an old file the fonts still appear correctly until I change something.
    Font is Anek Devanagari/Gurmukhi, or Noto Sans. Static versions work file.

    I don't see this bug in the list of things fixed in the latest update, has it been corrected?

    If I apply only a "Font Style" without specifying the "Font Family" part, when I apply the style to text, it adds "Font Style" next to "Font Family" (not normal) and also within "Font Style" (normal).

    Steps to reproduce the issue
    1. Launch Adobe InDesign 2026.
    2. Open any document (or create a new blank document).
    3. Work normally for a while, or even do nothing.
    4. Choose “InDesign > Quit InDesign” or press Cmd+Q.
    5. Confirm quitting if prompted.
    Expected result
    InDesign quits cleanly without any error message and returns to the macOS desktop.
    Actual result
    • InDesign crashes on quit every time.
    • macOS shows a crash dialog stating that “Adobe InDesign 2026 quit unexpectedly” (or similar wording).
    • The macOS crash report shows:
    • Exception Type: EXC_CRASH (SIGABRT)
    • Termination Reason: Namespace SIGNAL, Code 6, “Abort trap: 6”
    • Crash is triggered in Thread 10.
    • This happens even after:
    • Resetting InDesign preferences on launch.
    • Deleting InDesign caches and preference folders in the user Library.
    • Completely uninstalling and reinstalling InDesign via Creative Cloud.
    • Testing in a brand-new macOS user account.
    Additional context
    • The same InDesign version (21.2.0.30) on my previous Mac and macOS version did not show this problem; the issue started only after migrating to the new Mac (same InDesign version, newer macOS).
    • No third‑party plug‑ins are installed (or all third‑party plug‑ins have been removed for testing).
    • The crash occurs regardless of which document is open; even a new, empty document triggers the crash on quit.

    Description:

    Since updating to InDesign 21.5/21.5.1, Data Merge incorrectly decodes special characters in legacy MacRoman tab-delimited TXT data sources.

    The same data sources and InDesign documents work correctly in InDesign 21.4.1. In InDesign 21.5.1, special characters such as German umlauts, ß and accented characters become corrupted when “Update Data Source” is used.

    Selecting the source with these import settings does not resolve the problem:

    • Delimiter: Tab
    • Encoding: ASCII
    • Platform: Macintosh

    Re-selecting the data source with the same options also does not reliably restore the characters.

    Steps to reproduce:

    1. Create a tab-delimited TXT data source encoded as Western Mac OS Roman/MacRoman.
    2. Include values containing characters such as ä, ö, ü, Ä, Ö, Ü, ß and é.
    3. Connect the file through the Data Merge panel.
    4. Modify the data source without changing its encoding.
    5. Choose “Update Data Source” in InDesign 21.5.1.
    6. Check the merged-data preview.

    Expected result:

    The updated data is read using the original MacRoman import settings, and all special characters remain unchanged.

    Actual result:

    After updating the data source, special characters are decoded incorrectly and appear as unrelated characters.

    Regression:

    The identical documents and data sources work correctly in InDesign 21.4.1 on the same Mac. Rolling back from 21.5.1 to 21.4.1 resolves the problem immediately.

    This may be related to the new UTF-8 and multiline Data Merge implementation introduced in InDesign 21.5. Please ensure that updating a data source continues to respect legacy encoding and platform settings.

    Description:

    Since updating to InDesign 21.5/21.5.1, Data Merge incorrectly decodes special characters in legacy MacRoman tab-delimited TXT data sources.

    The same data sources and InDesign documents work correctly in InDesign 21.4.1. In InDesign 21.5.1, special characters such as German umlauts, ß and accented characters become corrupted when “Update Data Source” is used.

14. Justification Alternates (jalt) ignored by the HarfBuzz World-Ready shaping workflow

    In the recent InDesign versions Adobe has introduced HarfBuzz as the default text shaping engine but the Justification alternates feature is now not working in OpenType fonts at all, we have confirmed it by testing with several Arabic fonts. For Adobe legacy text rendering engine this feature still works seamlessly but not for Harfbuzz
    It has disturbed all the Arabic users past documents.

    I have attached a test Arabic document with Adobe Naskh font, as this font has justification alternates feature.

    Apply the World-Ready Paragraph Composer.
    Justify the Arabic paragraph.
    In Arabic Enabled InDesign set the Insert Kashidas to: None (image attached)
    Enable Justification Alternates. (image attached)

    Compare the broken result under HarfBuzz with the correct result under Legacy Text Shaping.

15. can't convert PDF files

    Indesign is currently failing to open PDF and Illustrator files. The Covert dialogue pops up and takes a very long time to process before returning a failure message. Error says "some features in the PDF" are to blame, but it's happening with even previously good files and .ai files as well.

    Issue initially presented on latest version (24.1.1); tried reinstalling, then tried uninstalling that and dialing back to version 21.0.2. Same issue every time, even on files I worked on previously with no issue. Have rebooted my system multiple times, no change. Sample PDF attached.

    Windows 11 enterprise x64
    AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor (3.80 GHz)
    RAM 32.0 GB (31.1 GB usable)

16. Modal dialog boxes appear behind InDesign window on macOS + excessive resource usage

    I am experiencing two recurring problems while using Adobe InDesign on my iMac. The most disruptive is that modal dialog boxes are appearing behind the main InDesign window instead of in front of it.

    Problem 1 – Dialog boxes appearing behind the InDesign workspace

    When InDesign opens a dialog box, the dialog sometimes appears behind the main InDesign document/workspace window.

    Because the dialog is modal, InDesign will not allow me to continue working normally until I respond to it. However, I cannot see the dialog because it is hidden behind the main InDesign window.

    Initially this made it appear as though InDesign had frozen. If I try to quit InDesign, I receive a message telling me that there is an active dialog box, but there is no visible dialog box for me to respond to.

    I have now discovered a way to reproduce/reveal the problem: if I switch to another macOS Desktop/Space and then return to the Desktop/Space where InDesign is running, the hidden dialog box suddenly appears correctly in front of the InDesign workspace. I can then respond to the dialog and continue working.

    This is happening frequently and is significantly disrupting my workflow.

    Expected behaviour

    When InDesign opens a modal dialog box, the dialog should always appear in front of the InDesign workspace so that I can see it and respond to it.

    Actual behaviour

    The modal dialog sometimes appears behind the main InDesign window. InDesign then becomes effectively unusable because it is waiting for a response to a dialog that I cannot see.

    Switching to another macOS Desktop/Space and then returning to InDesign causes the dialog to display correctly in front of the workspace.

    I have found older Adobe UserVoice reports describing similar behaviour. I am submitting this report because the problem is still occurring on current Apple hardware and my current InDesign/macOS installation, so it does not appear to have been fully resolved.

    Problem 2 – Excessive resource usage and computer becoming very hot

    I am also experiencing unusually high system resource usage while working in InDesign.

    My iMac becomes noticeably hot and appears to be working extremely hard while I am using InDesign. At times this has become significant enough that I have stopped working, closed all of my applications and restarted the computer. On some occasions I have shut the computer down completely because of how hot it has become.

    This is occurring during my normal InDesign work and is becoming frequent enough that it is affecting my ability to work reliably.

    I do not know whether the excessive resource usage is related to the hidden modal-dialog problem, but I wanted to report both behaviours because they are occurring on the same system while using InDesign.

    Computer: Apple iMac, 24-inch (2024)
    Processor: Apple M4
    Memory: 16 GB
    Operating system: macOS Sequoia 15.6.1
    Adobe InDesign version: 2026

    Additional information

    This is not a conventional InDesign crash. InDesign remains open.

    The main problem is that a modal dialog can become hidden behind the InDesign workspace. Because InDesign is waiting for a response to that hidden dialog, the program can appear frozen or unresponsive and cannot be quit normally.

    Switching macOS Desktops/Spaces and then returning to InDesign causes the dialog to appear correctly in front of the workspace.

    Because this is happening repeatedly, rather than as an isolated incident, I would appreciate Adobe investigating whether this is a known issue with InDesign's window/dialog handling on macOS, particularly on Apple Silicon Macs, and whether the unusually high resource usage I am experiencing could be related.

17. Everything on my screen goes invisible

    When working in a document, everything on my screen goes invisible. It's all still there because I can select it and get the selection boxes but can't see it. This happens sporadically and there does not seem to be a certain thing that triggers it.

18. Data Merge with CSV file not working

    Using Indesign 21.5 trying to use Data Merge with a CSV file keeps giving me error that says "There is some error while parsing. Please check your data file."
    The exact same CSV file using data merge works in Indesign version 20.5.4 with no issue - all links/images import.

19. Severe InDesign Performance Issues

    I’m reporting severe and ongoing performance problems with InDesign that are significantly affecting day-to-day work.

    The application has become consistently slow and laggy during normal use — including delays when clicking, saving, zooming, switching pages, placing assets, and general UI responsiveness. At times, even simple actions take several seconds and the software feels almost unusable.

    While performance is worse when working from Dropbox-synced folders, the same lag and delays also occur when working with files stored fully locally. This suggests the issue is not limited to cloud storage and may be a broader performance problem within InDesign itself.

    This behavior is happening across regular production files and is causing major productivity loss for our workflow.

    Please investigate and prioritize improvements to overall performance and stability. InDesign is currently much slower than other Adobe applications and has become difficult to use efficiently.

20. shift + arrow not working

    Adobe Indesign version 21.3 x64
    Suddenly my shift + arrow movement is not working. the normal arrow movement is still working but I want to increase the increment without going into the settings because I use both the small single pixel movement and the larger one I used to get out o the shift key. Please help
