  1. Eliminate document size limits

It would be great if there weren't size limit on documents. I am currently working on a very large design for a trade show booth. And I have to do it in Photoshop due to the size limits of InDesign. It is taking so much longer than it needs to because every time I try to transform or resize something, it takes 20 minutes to complete a small task Doing this in InDesign would be way better.

  4. Allow alternating row fills AND column fills in table styles

Currently, there is no automatic way to have a table with alternating row fills AND alternating column fills; the table settings will only allow you to set one or the other, and you must manually change the colors of the rows (if you set columns to alternate in the style) or columns (if you set rows to alternate in the style) from there.

It would be nice if we could set BOTH columns and rows to have alternate fills. For example:

You have a table with five columns, ten rows. You tell every other column to be 100% Magenta. You…

It would be great if the animation effects of the Online Publish function could be made more sophisticated.

  6. Define word count when filling placeholder text

When creating documents waiting on content to be supplied, would be great to be able to define number of words or paragraphs for placeholder text to help accurately identify space that may be required.

  7. STYLE support for run-in (aka in-line) headings

Currently there is no Style setting that can produce a run-in heading. This is a very widely used style in documents using more than 2-3 heading levels, and I have needed it for years now.

NOTE: Using Nested Styles does not fulfill the need for run-in headings. Using a nested style is a work-around based on character styles, and this technique does not allow a heading to be "promoted" or redesigned!

    A quick solution:

Create a new Style setting checkbox to be used by the run-in heading style: "Run-in". When checked, the paragraph is given 0 leading, and its total…

  8. More than 10 page spreads.

Allow the user to connect much more than 10 pages together in InDesign. I would like this so I can organize a large document with many pages. I am creating a digital book about plant taxonomy and would like to organize the pages this ways so that I can easily navigate this large document taxonomically while in the program. The pages will be printed individually so the layout in the document is not for the printing process but for organization.

  9. Add features to draft legal briefs

Legal filings are just complicated, cross-linked books.

Lawyers have to follow court rules when typesetting appellate briefs.
    See e.g., http://www.ca2.uscourts.gov/clerk/case_filing/rules/rules_home.html
    https://www.supremecourt.gov/filingandrules/rules_guidance.aspx

WordPerfect has a few useful features: see "Legal Toolbar" https://www.wordperfect.com/en/product/professional-edition/#features

You should add a feature to create a Table of Authorities (ToA). The ToA lists each authority cited along with every page on which it is cited. The ToA has different sections for different kinds of authorities, e.g., cases, statutes, etc.

The best way would be to have InDesign identify authorities/citations. Most lawyers follow the Bluebook. https://www.legalbluebook.com/default.aspx
Others follow the RedBook or the MaroonBook.

    Make selecting, dragging, and dropping…

  10. Option to open or otherwise import/place Microsoft Publisher files directly.

As a commercial printer, we often receive customer created work in Publisher files. Working with these documents in InDesign would be a huge timesaver.

  11. Ability to define a swatch that has a transparent gradient.

I want to create a swatch in the swatches palette that goes from X% color to no color. The same end result as applying a gradient feather effect but in a swatch so if I apply that swatch to an underline option in a text frame that is sitting above a non-solid color/image, the fade goes transparent and we don't see it fade to white.

  12. PDF Export Dialog

I still don't get the reason why you need to separate between Print and Interactive on PDF export at first stage where you choose your file format.

Please put make these options selectable in the PDF preset dialog insted.
It happens too oft to me that i don't look at the little format field at the bottom and just take attention to where i want to export my filesttoo and then am presented to the wrong dialog forcing me to abort the procedure to start over again.

    Thank you!

There should be an optional plug in for importing PageMaker files into newer (than CS6) versions.

  15. Make "Paste without formatting" work for any type of text in clipboard

If I want to paste text into InDesign and use the destination formatting rather than whatever the source is, I'm hard-wired to use "ctrl + shift + V". However it appears that if the contents of the clipboard are plain text, this command isn't available, presumably because InDesign thinks it's not necessary.

This means that the interface is inconsistent, because sometimes you need ctrl + V and sometimes you need ctrl + shift + V, depending on what's on the clipboard.

The option should always be available so that if you want plain text you can use the ctrl +…

  16. Tables & Graphs

I would love to have a new tab added in InDesign where you sort of had pre-made templates for graphs and tables and then could modify as needed once inserted into the document. I create many documents that often call for tables and graphs and have to start from scratch and spend sometimes hours perfecting it. It would save so much time to not only have pre-made templates, but also templates we could create ourselves and save and re-insert and populate with new data. And I'd like to have pie charts and other graphs in a similar fashion as well.

A simple and proper way to desaturate photos/graphics to greyscale using pure black.

Also, a Black&White adjustment-layer on photos/graphics to output greyscale using rich black.
