  2. Non-cloud versions needed as an option

Improve InDesign by creating non-cloud versions again as an option. The cloud is not ideal from a security perspective, nor from a constantly moving, time wasting upgrade perspective —which cascades into more problems when coupled with OS upgrades, printer issues, etc. Very consumer unfriendly. Have spent a week trying to resolve an upgrade problem over multiple platforms, and now stuck in a problematic OS to conform to your upgrades so I can work with a client.

  3. Better numbering of Exported pages

Once in a while, we need to animate pages of a brochure, or make end credits with more typographic features than After Effects allows.

When exporting pages from InDesign (e.g. as .jpg), those are numbered:
    Name.jpg
    Name2.jpg
    ...
    Name9.jpg
    Name10.jpg
    etc.

This results in a list of files that, when sorted/imported in alphabetical order, are not in the right order.

It would be nice, when the names are like this:
    Name00.jpg
    Name01.jpg
    ...
    Name09.jpg
    Name10.jpg

Even better would be when InDesign allows us to make a template for the output name, so we can decide ourselves how the sequential files…

  4. InDesign to accept TeX / LaTeX inputs

Like InDesign is accepting Quark inputs till some version (say version 4.0), I'm expecting such feature to accept TeX / LaTeX input too as many of Authors are still using TeX / LaTeX as inputs and the same need to typeset using TeX / LaTeX software.

If InDesign is accepting these inputs, we can directly include in InDesign and proceed the further typesetting process.

One difficulty is usually TeX / LaTeX inputs will have much mathematical equations.

  5. Rererence to Excel worksheet/'named' ranges appearing in links palette

Is it possible to display source file information (Worksheet name + named range) for dynamically linked Excel files?
I have hundreds of InDesign files linked to an Excel file and would like to see a quick reference list of links, rather than just the overall Excel filename as listed in the 'Links' palette?

  6. Consolidate identical suggestions

Have someone go through the InDesign forum and consolidate identical suggestions into one listing and update its vote total.

I believe some major issues are getting overlooked just because there being suggested at different times so the vote count is spread out.

  7. Bug on Windows PC: Hot keys / shortcuts inactive til document is saved

Every time I open InDesign for the first time, it won't let me use hot keys / shortcuts until I've saved the document at least once. This issue isn't present on Mac.

  8. Improve compatibility with input methods that use Apple's standard approach (InputMethodKit)

There are four problems we have identified in InDesign that negatively affect its compatibility with input methods that follow Apple's standard approach using InputMethodKit. These compatibility problems are described in detail here: https://github.com/keymanapp/keyman/issues/782.

This is of particular concern to SIL because we have developed [Keyman](keyman.com), a very popular and widely used input method that supports custom keyboards in hundreds of languages, including many major languages whose complex scripts are best served by the powerful options in Keyman as well as minority languages whose only viable option for text input might be Keyman.

We have prepared a small sample app…

  9. Option to open or otherwise import/place Microsoft Publisher files directly.

As a commercial printer, we often receive customer created work in Publisher files. Working with these documents in InDesign would be a huge timesaver.

  10. select similar

It would be helpful to have a select similar feature for lines and other drawn objects like in illustrator because sometimes I need to change a bunch of things to a different line weight and currently must manually find and change them. I always miss it when I'm working in Indesign instead of Illustrator.

  11. Document Open Window/pane.

Document Open pane. The break up of recent, earlier and older documents is confusing. I'd prefer it to alphabetical order.

  12. InDesign, and all other CC apps, should be ported to Linux

Linux is more efficient and secure than Windows or macOS. It also often has greater hardware compatibility and resource management, which would be useful when dealing with large projects.

This would be valuable for many users seeking to get the most out of their hardware, or who work with 3D rendering tools best suited to Linux setups.

Adobe already has a Unix base with the macOS version - surely a Linux version isn't too much of a head-scratcher for the devs.

  13. Can't save or open files

I keep getting error 4 damaged document, cannot save, in Indesign 13.1

It stops me from saving or opening files. I have to quit Indesign 13.1 before I can proceed. Then it seems to work. I have deleted the cache as suggested countless times, it still happens. I have a feeling it's something to do with Illustrator 22.1, when I open that to work on a file and then quit it. It is then that I seem to get the error code 4 in indesign. Can you please advise.

  14. InDesign on wrong monitor

I loaded LR, PS, and AI, then moved them from primary monitor (in upright format) to a secondary monitor (which is in landscape format), maximise them, close them. Next time I open them, they always remember to load to the same place as before, namely the second monitor.

But InDesign keeps loading in the primary monitor, I have to keep shifting it over to the secondary monitor every time I start InDesign.

Seeking the forum for answers, I noticed someone already asked that question, why do it keeps opening in primary window, and it was posted around 2015 or thereabouts.

  15. Notify us of bugs while they are being fixed.

When you have a bug, it would be nice to get a notice. I just spent an hour trying to figure out what I was doing wrong with the dictionary. Finally got in a chat and realized I wasn't doing anything wrong.

It's fine you have bugs. It's amazing what the software does. I don't mind not using a feature while the bug gets fixed. It would, though, save me time and frustration to know that you're working on it and I should relax and wait.

    Thank you!

  17. Scratch Disk option

Give InDesign a Scratch Disk option like Photoshop and Illustrator. It consumes far too much memory and runs too slowly on Windows 7.

  18. show last time saved in closing pop-up

I forget sometimes when the last time I saved a document I have open, and when I go to close it, it asks, Save/Don't Save/Cancel. I wish it said a time stamp of the last time it was saved so I don't have to save it if I already saved it 5 mins ago and didn't really make any worthy changes. Yes I could just look at the file info in the finder, just seems like a simple thing to add to save some time.

  19. in the "Printer Marks" tutorial, specify exactly how to print fold marks.

The Printer's Marks tutorial (https://helpx.adobe.com/indesign/using/printers-marks-bleeds.html) says: If you select the Crop Marks option, fold marks are printed as solid lines when spreads are printed. But there is no detail about how to create fold marks, and simply printing crop marks does not appear to automatically create fold marks or offer any option to do so. More clarity and specifics would be helpful.

  20. Need the ability to assign fonts to Interactive Text Boxes

Please, please, PLEASE update the Interactive Buttons and Forms functionality to include the ability to assign fonts to the Interactive Text Boxes.

Currently, I have to hope that the design I have made is 100% final approved before I can create the final Interactive PDF and spend additional time fine-tuning the fonts and paragraph alignment. If there are any changes after that, I have to go through the entire process again, losing valuable hours, depending on the length of the document. The ability to change only the font size is useless.

But if the functionality was included in the InDesign…
