Add a "Duplicate" file feature much like Photoshop has.
Would love to have a "duplicate file" feature much like Photoshop has so we can create a new version while keeping the existing document open in its current state.

Larger area when moving page/spreads or duplicating via alt drag
REQUEST
Make the area for "dropping" a page/spread larger and on above and below pages/spreads.ISSUE
The current area to "drop" a page/spread is small and inconsistent (see attached video). It also limited to the left or right of a page/spread, NOT above or below.GOAL
Move or duplicate a page to a specific location in the document, more efficiently.REASON
Duplicate page command sends the duplicate to the end of the document, which typically needs to be moved to another location in the document, thus highlighting the issue regardless of moving or duplicating via alt/option drag.STEPS

Dynamic Page height
An option to allow page height to auto adjust with content.
This would be handy when linking one indesign document into another, such as a catalogue, each product and description etc would sit in the linked indesign file on separate pages, possibly data merged and then placed into working file. If the height of the linked pages where all auto adjusted to height of the content the pages could all be inserted with minimal effort and perfect spacing.

Horizontal column/row guides when creating a new document
Ability to create rows as well as columns as guides when creating a new document so that we can easily grid a page. Often I have to put items 4-up or 8-up and so forth and having the vertical columns is helpful but it would be even better to be able to have horizontal rows at the same time instead of having to measure them and drag guides down.

Allow choice of right or left page to keep when eliminating page from facing pages master
When downsizing from a master with facing pages to a single page, I'd like the choice of which page to keep instead of the default left page.

Ability to anchor graphics across spreads
Because with accessibility it is important to anchor graphics, sometimes when the graphic reference is on the previous spread or the next spread, it is necessary to anchor to another spread when the graphic doesn't fit. When you do this, indesign will automatically move the graphic to another page. You should have the ability to anchor something across spreads.

Retain previous window dimensions & position & display
My ID (CS6) workspace has palettes down both sides of the screen. If I open a file that I'd been working on then closed, the file window stretches across the screen and goes behind the palettes, tho' when I closed the file previously, the window fit exactly between the two columns of palettes. Assuming a fixed workspace, I'd like the window to be exactly where it was when I last closed the file. It is a 3-step process to restore position & dimensions manually, more if there's a palette covering the bottom right corner of the window. Maybe this has…

Exclude Pasteboard (PB) from Find/Change
Many of the Find/Replace functions would be much faster and easier to complete if only run on the pages area only rather F/C searching paste board too.

Crop Marks
I would like the crop marks to be cross hair style so when you cut one side you still have a mark to tell you where to cut the other. Right now once you cut one side the crop mark is completely cut off so you then have to measure where the next cut should be.

Show grid in front of some layers but not all
Add a setting to somehow designate a point within the layer stack where the baseline grid would appear. The desire is to have the grid visible in front of a background layer but behind everything above that. Perhaps in Preferences->Grids where there is currently a "Grids in Back" checkbox, there could be an additional checkbox of "Except lowest layer" or "Except lowest __ layers" or something. Alternatively, the setting could be in Layer Options, something like "Show Grids in front of this layer". You get the idea.

Add to the Object - Arrange menu, add a Behind Object command so that it allows you to place an object behind another instead of just Move A
Add a Behind Object to the Arrange menu that allows you to move a single item behind another object on the screen without using Back or Front Arrangement only.

Archive pages, spreads, artboards, etc. within a file without deleting them for good
Wouldn't it be great if we could "archive" pages or spreads in inDesign (or artboards in illustrator, photoshop)? I want to be able to show options to my clients, and then narrow down those options by archiving pages without actually deleting them. Because sometimes, bless their heart, they want something from one of those already deleted ideas.

Extract/Save Individual Pages in an Indesign Document as a Separate InDesign File
Please please please consider making a feature where you can extract pages/spreads in an InDesign document as a separate InDesign file. I work in Proposals for a Civil Engineering firm and our proposals are generally 100+ pages with a lot of resumes and project pages. After each proposal is complete we have to go in and save every resume in each person's resume folder and every project page in its respective folder. It takes such a long time to create a new indesign document for each resume and project and copy/paste it over and then save in a folder. It…

Set asset path base location in preferences
Allow the user to set the base relative path location in preferences instead of having them set to absolute all the time. This will allow complete folder structures within Create Cloud Folders to be shared to other user without all the assets link breaking all the time and will avoid the need to send packaged files all the time.

Page naming and exporting separate pages with it names as a sufix.
A above. I'd like to be able to name the pages separately and tick an option to use this names as sufixes when exporting separate pages (tiffs, jpgs, pngs, etc.).

Larger preview window on Place image dialog box
When picking images in a multi-page document from a PDF or Adobe Illustrator files, it would be nice to see a preview size bigger than the 125x125-ish window that is used in the dialog box. Thanks!

Start supporting "Working off Network Drives/shares"
Users are expected to download files to their local HDD and then work the project locally before committing it to a server/file share. this is ridiculous to ask. some of these files are huge and would consume the HDD space on the MAC/PC, let alone the network traffic and congestion they would create saving back and forth. Adobe needs to fix this issue so that users can work on a file and save to network share for other designers to work. InDesign and all products from adobe have this behavior. locking for sometimes days before someone is able to open…

Put back scroll arrows on the scrollbars in InDesign
With the update from InDesign 2020 to InDesign 2021 I noticed that the scroll arrows at the end of the right and bottom scroll bars have disappeared (see Image 1 (ID). In Illustrator 2021 however they are still present (see Image 2 (Ill).
I can't find any setting in the preferences to toggle them on or off.
I use these arrows frequently and the omission of these arrows in the new InDesign are very annoying to me.
Hope to hear from you soon.7 votes
