Stroke Profile
Add in Adobe illustrators stroke profiles to indesign. The amount of times I've wanted to do a stroke in indesign with tapered ends and had to open Ai just for that one additional feature of control is too high

A preference choice to disable the application of local formatting.
A preference choice to disable the application of local formatting. This setting would have fine tune control (similar to the eye dropper tool) to allow some local formatting, such as kerning.
This feature would be ideal for templates as well as team based workflow.1 vote -
Duplicated style sheets should not override the original's keyboard shortcut
When you duplicate a text style that has a shortcut key assigned to it, the duplicated style keeps the shortcut key and the original style loses it (it gets greyed out).
What should happen is that the new style has no shortcut key assigned to it, and the existing one keeps it. I see no reason for the current behaviour.

Assign paragraph style depending on odd/even page
It would be nice to assign a paragraph style automatically depending on the “value” of a odd or even page? So you can for example make some styles have more margin at the right or left side, depending on odd or even.
Of course you can apply this with different paragraph style, but when a new page appears in the middle of a large document it would be very nice if this can go automatically.

SVGs / AIs and Graphics as bullet points
It would be nice if paragraphs styles would allow for SVGs and / or Graphics to be used as "custom bulletpoints".

Dual numbering system for Indesign using page numbering
@Adobe: Current up-to-date InDesign has only one sequential page-numbering function.
By giving it more flexibility in creating Dual numbering system would be useful, rather then manually adding in numbers.
It will be hectic and time consuming creating design flow like example: Creating a calendar document with dual numbering or more per page.

GREP styles as stand-alone named styles
I use GREP styles a lot, and they are very convenient! But I often have to use the same GREP styles in different paragraph styles. Sometimes they consist of rather complex long expressions, and their transfer to another publication becomes difficult and time-consuming. GREP styles should be placed in a separate list, similar to the other stylesheets, and each of them must have its own name, with which they can be included in the paragraph style.

Don't add space between paragraphs of the same style
I'd like the option to not add space between paragraphs of the same style, even if those paragraphs have space above or below. Microsoft Word has a checkbox that does this, and it's great for list styles. You can create a list style with space above and below and then check that box so that space only appears before and after the list, not between list items.
In order to achieve the same effect in InDesign, you need three or more styles (one with space above but not below for the first item, one without space above or below for…

font weight mapping
Different font foundries/designers have different ideas on how to name the font weight. Unfortunately this causes problems, when you want using (character) styles like "BOLD" or "ITALIC".
More often then not, you need to change the definition (from "bold" to "65 bold" or "Italic" to "oblique") when changing the font.
If you have multi-font documents, you even need to assign styles according to the font instead of the weight. Building a hierarchy of styles gets more complicated too.
The idea is to have a table of weight mapping like:
65 bold = bold;
bold = bold;
45 light = light;…30 votes -
Spacing & increment styles
The inclusion of preset spacing styles (for individual objects) would be very helpful. You could set up a several spacing increment styles and have a one click approach to spacing. this would be very helpful for catalog design work.

Automatic hanging indents/"indent to here" for lists
Currently, creating hanging indents for lists requires either manually adding "indent to here" ahead of every list item, or fiddling with the left indent and first line indent options of the list paragraph style until the desired effect is achieved-- a process that must be repeated if the type size changes or for subsequent list levels.
Since hanging indents are what one almost always desires when creating lists, it would be great if this was a checkbox option one could simply turn on when setting up list styles. With the option on, InDesign would automatically indent all text to the…

Border also as character style instead of only paragraph style
Title describes itself. I would like to have the ability to "span" one or more characters instead of a whole paragraph and assign a border to them. Just like I'm able to do with css

Dependent font sizes
Allow for Character styles to have a font size relative to the underlying Paragraph style by adding and subtracting (or even multiplication and division). A Character style’s font size could be -2 pt or +2 pt for example. If the Paragraph style’s font size is 14 pt, the Character style’s fonts size would result in 12 pt or 16 pt. This is very practical for optical adjustment of different typefaces for example, keeping everything dynamic.

Style counters
I would find very helpful to have a counter near any style (in particular for tables, but can work with other styles too) that enlights the number of items to whom is assigned the style and add a function, similar to the error panel, in which one can scroll to the elements, double clicking, and be brought to the item itself.

Add "Unmap All" to Map Tags to Styles
In the Map Tags to Styles popup panel, please supply a "unmap all tags" button. Sometimes we use the tags to prestyle text, but then apply manual overrides, and want to retain the manual overrides when importing new XML. We currently have to manually remove all mapped styles from the tags before doing that, which can be very tedious when working on large numbers of documents.

DIV STYLE Panel FOR EPUB/HTML
Using hundreds of anchored text boxes (with Object styles) within threads is time-consuming but necessary to provide <div> classes for css.
It would be MUCH quicker if there was an InDesign Div Styles panel where I could apply a class for css to a section that needs different styling between PDF and ePub/html versions. These sections often contain 5 different Paragraph Styles so I need to add some kind of wrapper.1 vote -
Ability to set Style Override Highlighter as "on" or "off" in preferences
Currently the Style Override Highlighter [+] in the various styles panels functions as a toggle on a per app basis, not as an "on" or "off" preference setting. This means it can't be set on a document by document basis, as enabling it will actually toggle the setting to "off" if a user has the setting switched "on" in their copy of InDesign.
Would greatly appreciate the ability to set this as a normal InDesign preference - ie one that can be set at application/document level, the same as almost every other setting in the program.
