Please please please make Rich Tool Tips optional!
Please please please make Rich tool tips optional.
If you of any reason at all as an advanced professional user of Indesign has to reinstall Indesign these Rich Tool Tips makes you suicidal. Not to criticize anybody specifically but they are the most stupid thing and first and foremost totally useless.
It actually makes you hate the software and the developers. And i would rather like to love you instead.
It is an mental health issue basically. Because they linger on for far too long and occupies too much time and space when you actually tries to get the work…

Background Tasks Pane animation
Create an animation setting for the Background Task Pane so that the pane gives feedback while in a closed, docked position.
Why this is important is simple. Even with the larger and larger monitors with more and more real estate, simple things like the Background Tasks Pane having to be fully open to be examined is counterintuitive and by extension counterproductive. I would like to be able, with a simple glance at a docked pane to tell exactly what state the background task is in and if further detail is desired or needed, then it can be expanded with the…

Make the Learn Panel so that it can be enabled, even for experienced users (not just those who claim to be beginners).
Make the Learn Panel so that it can be enabled, even for experienced users (not just those who claim to be beginners). Currently, there is no way to view the Learn Panel if a user claimed "experienced" status at setup, even if this was done by accident. Users should be able to view the Learn Panel, regardless of level of experience. Evidently most of the students at our K-12 school, thought they were experienced, and now cannot access the Learn Panel for necessary tutorials. Please make the Learn Panel available for everyone.

Shortcut for active text frame out port click
Looking for a shortcut that would act the same as clicking on the out port of the active text frame. Rather than having to click on the tiny icon in the bottom right corner, a keystroke would speed this process up.

A workflow efficiency feature based on user behaviour and pointer travel distance the Adobe product suggests to relocate and add panels that would reduce the klicks and mouse movements, show and construct keyboard short cuts to speed up the work flow for you.

Better place for Alignment in Paragraph Style editor
Alignment is in the tab 'Indents & Spacing' - not very logical - I have to search for it all the time (not a daily InDesign user).
Suggestion: replace the Justification tab by 'Aligment & Justification''.
And in the dialog itself, the alignment has to chosen from a pull down menu.
Why not the icons as used in the toolbar (and a pull down for the extra options)?1 vote -
InDesign Preview For Finder
There really should be an InDesign preview for Mac Finder. This should be a requirement for your software and should not be considered a feature request.
180 votesPreview of InDesign documents in Mac Finder and Windows Explorer is available in InDesign version 2023.

Clear/erase "recent file" list.
Untill the new open/splah dialog, the recent file list wasn't a problem.
It was hidden into the File menù, and was almost impossible to see it.Now with the new open / splash screen everyone is able to watch the document you opened previously.
In some occasion this is not that nice, especially if you work for someone and some of them competitors...It could be useful to introduce an "erase recent document" at the end of the list in the File->Recent file menu.
As many other softwares has.24 votes -
Conditional Text Pallet
Please add the "Show and Print" option next to the "eye" in the "Conditional Text" palette in the form of check-boxes, so that everyone can choose which condition should be printed and which only displayed. Now you can only do this in bulk for all defined conditions.
This will be very useful in the arrangements between the editorial office and the dtp.

Manage Recent Files List - It's useless if you run a Book operation!
The Recent Files list gets FILLED UP with chapter files if I run a Book operation. All my other projects get pushed off the list, even though all I did was re-paginate a book. This makes the Recents list useless! Please fix this!
The Recent Files list MUST BE MANAGEABLE if it is to be useful. Files get "touched" for very trivial reasons, sometimes just to look at something in the file. This results in an almost random listing of Recents. Please understand how a Recents list can be useful -- don't just blindly list files by "changed date".

Please don't kill the Control panel.
The Control panel is more useful, less obtrusive, and more space-conscious than the Properties panel on small displays like laptops.

Edit Variable dialog: highlight Text text box first instead of variable name to work faster
In the Edit Variables dialog box, It would work faster on a daily basis if the third text box, named Text, would be the one highlighted for change. In a context where you define all your templates then reuse them, when you use variables, it is only to change them. So most used text box is the third one in the Edit variable dialog box.
We would save a lot of time if, when we click to edit a variable, the 3rd text box is highlightes for change.

Improve style panels
Three things that would be amazing for the styles panels (we use a lot of styles, so managing them better would be a huge boon):
1) Snap the current folder you're in to the top of the panel once it scrolls out of view, so it's easy to close the folder you're in once you're done.
2) Include some way of viewing the "based on" hierarchy all at once rather than having to go into a style's properties to see what's contingent on what.
3) Have labelling and filtering as per photoshop's layers panel - so you can find and…

Responsive palette sizing
It would be nice if palettes would resize more intelligently.
Having the Swatches palette shrink down to 2 swatches high while having 3 pages of empty space in the Pages palette or having to click through all of the states of Align to access Distribute because I had to collapse it enough scroll down 5 spreads is annoying.
Having some form of dynamic sizing with priority given to cursor:hover (perhaps weighted by which tool or object is selected.... priority to relevant palettes) seems like it might help.

InDesign 2018 USER INTERFACE STILL TOO SMALL!
Over the years I (and others) have requested that the UI of InDesign be scalable. As designers, our eyes navigate us thru the creative process.
IT IS NOT EASY to readily decipher palettes and menus which sport MICROSCOPIC TYPE on a 28-inch, high-resolution monitor.
It IMPEDES workflow if one is spending extra time trying to find and choose things on the interface.
At least give us a choice! Smaller, Medium, Large, Extra-large.When will Adobe get this??????
